Watched this at its premiere in Cannes and let me tell you, in a theatre full of 1,000+ rich privileged people, there wasn't a single moment of this film which wasn't getting uproarious reactions from the audience. And after a 12-minute standing ovation, I'm guessing most people went for dinner on their private yacht in Cannes and completely missed the point of the film, which tragically reinforces Ostlund's and the film's genius.

so I don't want to ruin the film for you a bit but the message is a bit more complicated and nuanced and actually somewhat apologetic towards traditional wealthy and those in power. Spoilers ahead. When the group and social dynamics drastically switch to where the former cleaning lady and her skill set is suddenly valuable making her the "rich" on the island she does not hesitate to take advantage of her new found role and abuse her power. And thats more of the point/critique (maybe more of an observation?) of the film that given the right circumstances, we are all capable of acting immorally and abusing power when we have it. And indeed what lengths would we go to to keep it? (see last scene).

After watching this film at a early screening. The grit and humour contrasts between the viewers expectations and Ostlunds masterpiece. Long story short I loved this film.

NEON doesn't get the love it deserves because people think it's all about A24. Which, my favorite of the year and 2020s I bet is/will be Everything Everywhere All at Once but Portrait is one of my top 10 and there are many great NEON films. I do love A24 of course but NEON deserves as much love.

This movie was hysterical. The closing of the second act was stomach-turning but to see the privileged and wealthy sloshing around in their own puke and shit is worth the price of admission alone. Dolly de Leon absolutely steals the entire movie in the third act as the toilet cleaner manager who asserts herself as the new captain on the island some of the guests find themselves stranded on after pirates sink the yacht (very Lord of the Flies, there is even a nod to that).. This film could have run for another 2.5 hours and I still wouldn't have been bored. Brilliant stuff. R.I.P Charlbi You will be missed.

Saw this at The Plaza in Atlanta last night and the room was just raucous with laughter. Absolutely hysterically funny, caustic, brilliant. I was a big fan of The Square and love this just as much. Very sad to see that Charbli Dean, who played the incredibly sexy and deceptively brainy Yaya, recently passed away. Hers was a performance where I had to wait to watch the credits and find out "who's that girl?" What a babe.
