I saw a dance on KZbin the other day, forget what it was called, but it was from Argentina. The man was dancing on a board in a desert area, with a wonderful costume and so much energy. He was tapping in a way but also bending his feet inward so that I thought he would break his bones! Dancers are truly amazing to me I just looked it up and it's NESTOR VEGA - MALAMBO NORTEÑO, for anyone who's interested

Very true. I've seen a few videos of famous world-class athletes trying to keep up with practice routines of ballet, jazz and other dancers and not being able to pull it off. They all come away from it with a new-found respect for dancers! 😊

Hello, an Argentine here. It may have been Malambo the dance, although I am not an expert in the traditional dances of my country. Can it be something like this?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZSXmJ6Lj56Jg5o

Thank you! I love that we Patreons are watching this a day before everyone else. I am always so impressed by Naveed's ability to remember things he's seen in the past (remembers the name Michael Flatley) and their English / western words.

I went to the Soviet Union in the 80's as a teenager with my mother and saw these dances from Georgia and Ukraine. They were both part of the Soviet Union. Their dances are one of my favorites because of the moves and the costumes. There's more traditional dances from that area too that I saw.

@@VeryCherryCherry I bet many of them have had to have knee replacements since then. I hurt everytime they landed! I tripped once and fell on both knees on concrete, and it was the most painful thing I ever experienced and I didn't fall on them from the height these dancers did, and they did it REPEATEDLY......definately NOT good for your knees!

Navees strikes to the heart by comparing dance to the “poetry of the body”. Such a strange creature we are, balancing on two legs, and expressing ourselves with complicated flying feet, or synchronized movements, sharing emotions with others.

I feel like at the end of the day every dance was created to show off, either how good their "men" (usually, mainly) have been/would be at "war/ in a fight" or partner's choice to keep it as PG as possible. While I admit all the moves are precise and hard at the end of the day dancing has been an Art of the ♥ ♥

Dancing! I love these vids. I've got links to several amazing Georgian dance videos I'll be sending you. One actually takes place in the Caucasus mountains, and has amazing scenery, too. The one from Brazil, that Auntie wondered if it was a martial art or a dance, I *think* is capoeira. That's actually a martial art that uses some dance moves. Good catch, Auntie!

@monicapdx That sounds great! I'm glad to hear that you enjoy dancing and have some interesting videos to share. I'm looking forward to watching the Georgian dance videos and appreciate your efforts in sending them to me. Yes, you are correct about the Brazilian dance/martial art, Capoeira. It's a unique combination of martial arts, dance, and music that originated in Brazil during the 16th century. It's fascinating how Capoeira blends the physical and cultural aspects of Brazilian heritage into a beautiful art form.

@@Countryfolktry Great! I'll send a few links so you can choose. And thank you, I didn't know that much about capoeira. Especially how old it is. I love to learn stuff. 🥰

Here, a neighbor from Brazil. Capoeira was created during the 16th century by slaves who were brought from Africa to Brazil by the Portuguese colonialists. Since slaves were forbidden to practice any martial art, capoeira was a way around that law. Hidden in the musical elements, kicks were disguised with dance moves. and capoeira came to life as a survival tool, not only for self defense, but also as a cultural identity.
