There are various dishes of red beans in their country. The curry ones are usually had with white rice as you have suggested and their slurp sounds of another world. Fans light up just as they see it on the table. In Canada, it’s white beans, soaked overnight, add onions, and then cooked with molasses and tomato sauce with spices like pepper, salt, paprika, garlic and whatever floats your boat. Good on buttered toast.

I think that their expression "healthy and fit" means something different to them than it does to Americans. We think in terms of Body-Mass-Index, high cholesterol, going to the gym so we can stay young, and keeping our Weight down so we can be thin; but this probably doesn't concern them as much as having enough food varieties to get all of the vitamins and minerals that they need in a day to stay healthy. Also, the culture of the sub-continent has always held that being chubby was a sign of health, wealth, and beauty. Did you see the VTP segment on water? It was moving, as they tasted clean bottled water that none of them could afford. They are forced to drink well water tainted by village sewage (sewage which makes it taste salty). One of them described how his children often had diarrhea and how his family had to boil their water before drinking it to avoid getting ill. So maybe just having clean and non-diseased food and drink is what spells health to them.

Growing up as the last of 8 kids we would often have beans, hot dogs and brown bread on a Saturday night. I make my beans in different ways. As I am a Muslimah, I use smoked Turkey in place of the traditional ham hock. "Boston baked beans" is based on molasses and brown sugar! I live near Boston, the capital of Massachusetts USA

Turkey sounds like it would make a great substitute, halal diet or not. I used to date a girl who's family limited their red meat for dietary health reasons, and substituted pork and beef dishes with various kinds of poultry. Is duck halal? Duck chilly hits different.

@@JackOfferman duck is Halal. Pig is not. Because of trichinosis and the fact they eat their own poop as well as humans (Mafia disposal tactic) they are considered unclean. I used to eat pork ALL THE TIME until I learned about it. There is a TikTok going around showing a hot dog under a microscope. Will freak you out! I only eat all beef dogs now. Make sure the turkey is "smoked" cuz it has a ton of flavor. Rotisserie chicken works too you can buy at the market (cold ones are cheaper) I use that as a base for soup often

These looked like a cross between what we call "saucepan beans" like you'd get from a can of Campbell's pork and beans and what I'd call baked beans. They look delicious too! American baked beans are usually made with navy beans. You can also use Great Northern beans and I've even seen Pinto beans used. You take the dried beans, check them over carefully for any small stones or debris and soak them in fresh cold water for several hours (I soak mine for about 8 hours or overnight) changing the water out in the beginning every half hour to hour until the water is no longer cloudy. Drain them well and they're ready to be cooked in whatever recipe you're making. After that, the rest of the ingredients can differ from person to person. There's almost always brown sugar, molasses onions, salt and pepper and some other herbs or spices. Some people will add ketchup or tomato purée, mustard and other flavorings they prefer. A key ingredient in every baked bean recipe is some type of fatty pork like bacon, salt pork or pork belly (which is where bacon comes from) but to keep it halal I see no reason why you couldn't use meat from a smoked turkey leg or beef bacon. You want something that will give it that salty, slightly smoky flavor. The important part is cooking them long enough for the beans to get nice and tender but not so soft that they just turn to mush. There are hundreds of recipes online and if you're in a real hurry, you can "doctor up" some Grandma Brown's brand canned baked beans. In my book, they're the closest you can get to homemade, without all of the time and effort! lol Great video, as always TPT family!

It’s a shame they can’t eat any pork products over there. It’s a very integral part of not just a Western diet but also the diets in the rest of Asia. Seems like an out of date rule based on ignorance. If you’ve ever been around a farm the pigs are friendly and clean if the farm is well kept. Mass produced pork has all the horrors of any mass produced meat of course, but buying local can solve that.

I'm not sure what part of the country you're in but I'm currently living in the Northeast and the Wal-Marts up here carry them. Also Hannaford which is a sister store to Kroger. Fuits, vegetables, beans, rice, wheat, barley, a lot of different grains and we also have a very large variety of meats and seafood, and herbs and spices and all varieties of dairy foods. We also have in the large cities on the Atlantic and Pacific costs, many Pakistani restaurants. We also have a huge population of Mexicans who eat a very large amount of beans. Chili made with pinto beans, ground beef, and an onion is a good to increase iron in the blood. It helps if a person is anemic. It is also good for protein. Protein helps build muscle tissue. When my sons played football, the coach said to feed them chili everyday to strengthen them. Never put too much chili powder in chili. You don't want it to taste very spicy. It is a comfort food. Medicinal. Oh yes... Tomato sauce..

We have MANY ways to prepare beans, and use many different types of beans. We, too, eat beans and rice. We are taught that when the two are eaten together, they make a "perfect protein", so it is a very healthy way to eat. Please tell Mr. Rana that there are MANY of us who are at home, preparing meals from the raw ingredients - many of us don't just open a box. One of the gentlemen said something about Lobia being called beans here. Well, a Northener might call them beans, but we Southerners will be quick to tell them they're PEAS, not beans! We call them Black-eye Peas. We DO use a lot of water when we make our beans, and we don't cook for 30-45 minutes. If I'm making a pot of beans, I start it cooking in the morning if I'm going to have beans that evening. When making a casserole like baked beans, we either cook the beans first, and then add the other ingredients before baking them, or, many people will start with canned beans. And it's NOT always cold here. It's been in the 90s recently, and in a couple months we'll see 100+ here in Florida! I love our tribal gentlemen and their families! Thank you for sharing with us!

If you want to see they really puzzled and intrigued give them black beans soup, with some roti or bread to dip it. In the USA, we eat lots of baked beans at cookouts and barbecues. I used to make a huge pan of them that usually got eaten up within the first 30 minutes of removing the aluminum foil. 😁 I don't eat them anymore, but when I did I ate them with barbecue beef ribs and a side of potato salad, macaroni salad or tuna salad. Can't forget the honey butter corn bread. Yummy! 😋😋

Backed beans as we know it was actually originally a native American dish . The used honey to sweeten it and added some local things to flavor it. I'm sure each tribe had their favorate recipe for it

If they like sweet beans, they'd like Canadian Maple baked beans. The Heinz brand is the best. Heat them up, mix in a little butter, eat it with buttered toast. 😊🍁

Here in America baked beans are made from white navy beans. It's a side dish to eat with potatoe salad or mashed potatoes and hot dogs or hamburgers with green beans or other side dishes. Not many will eat it alone without other food on a plate. It usually is eaten with other foods.

These gentlemen would enjoy cans of baked beans shipped to them. Baked beans are used alone or with meat/cheese for a main meal, as a side dish to a meal, or as a dip with meat/cheese and Corn chips. They are a staple in lots of homes.

Curious. Where do you find the recipes you cook for TPT? A great source, if you are making American food is the BETTY CROCKER COOKBOOK. There are recipes that are VERY traditional in this book. It is also very easy to understand. Often given as a wedding gift. ❤️❤️❤️
