That's one thing about home fries! Add what you like! I add beef smoked sausage, onions and beat several eggs and scramble them in in it. That makes a full meal! Your suggestions are unique and I believe would taste very good, brother!!

My dad used to make home fries. Instead of cutting chunks, he would slice them. He would include onions when he was frying them up. Then, I think he tossed them with salt and black pepper. One of my favorites going up.

Home fries are made by frying potatoes hence the name. They are not baked they are not boiled they are not steamed and they are not microwaved. They're just potatoes cut up into bite-size chunks and fried until tender and golden brown in butter or bacon grease with some finely chopped onion, salt and pepper.

I always make home fries using leftover boiled or baked potatoes. They're already cooked, cut up and browned in a little oil, it makes a quick breakfast side.

@@dustdevl1043 yes, but up until you fry them they're just baked boiled or steamed potatoes, they're not home fries. Whether the potatoes are pre-cooked or made from raw, you fry them to make home fries, you don't bake them boil them or steam them

Home fries are a great way to use up leftover plain potatoes that were previously cooked by other means (baked, steamed, microwaved). Cutting up the plain, leftover potatoes and then frying them (often with finely diced onion, green pepper, salt and black pepper) until the potatoes are at least partly browned and crispy creates the home fries. They are often served with eggs and toast for breakfast, usually on a weekend when there's more time to cook. I like a little hot sauce sprinkled over mine, and also over the eggs.

Generally made with diced/cubed potatoes, fried in a pan with butter, with some slat, herbs and spices added, maybe some black/red pepper powder, etc. Quite tasty. Often served as a side dish with the main meal. Typically with breakfast, but sometimes with lunch or dinner. Good alongside meat, or pancakes, or whatever. Everybody loves fried potatoes... However they're made! ;)

We'll often lave the skins on. Theoretically there's some vitamins / minerals in the skin, or whatever. So, we'll leave them on sometimes. Now always. Sometimes we peel them first...

To call them "fries", they must be FRIED. Potatoes cooked in the microwave cannot be called "fries". M 🦘🏏😎
