taemin is heavily involved in the creative aspect of planning the story and concept of each album and music video. he has a different type of artistry than a songwriter/producer. and the songs he does write are fucking good!!
@MariaVitoria-me4tq6 ай бұрын
I don't mind if they don't write BUT I do think that is essential the involvement in the creative process of you own art be it on the choreography, the imagery, the song, the concept, perfomance etc. Even if you don't write i think that is important have your own personality, message and the ability to express yourself. Art is all about expressions in the end. That what makes a Artist be a Artist.

This is one of the songs Taemin re-worked to make it fit his overall storyline and the concepts he wanted within the entire "Guilty" album. Therefore the original song probably sounds nothing like this nor would the lyrics be the same. The song again portrays Taemin's long-standing dilemma between is celebrity status the demon) and his Christian worldview (Taemin), represented by two separate egos residing in his mind. In "Guilty" we are given the name of the demon, "Abraxas" (which is a gnostic demigod of a heretical sect later referred to as a demon). This is why Taemin grabs his throat from inside his shirt -- the demon is inside himself, to the point of digging his fingers into his leg to keep him vigilant. The entire song is a conversation between Abraxas & Taemin with Taemin trying not to succumb to the temptations offered to him. The choreo represents the mental struggle he is going through. The concept of guilt demonstrates the how one feels when involved in a toxic relationship (like the one he is in) and possible choosing what you know is wrong over your personal convictions. "Want" is a very thorough retelling of the Bible's Genesis 3 story from the actual ancient context of the Bible where certain words and images are only recognized through the Christian worldview as the ancient Israelites understood them. (ex. seas = chaos; the serpent (Taemin in the bright, white shirt) represents a "divine, shining being" = throne guardian in ancient iconography, and so much more. "Criminal" is Act 1 and "IDEA" is Act 2 of Taemin's 2-part album, "Never Gonna Dance Again" (Acts 1 & 2) which continues his two egos' storyline. This album was co-directed & co-produced by Taemin. He worked with lyricists to produce the two title songs ensuring they portrayed an accurate picture of the concepts he wanted to convey. "Criminal" uses the concept of Stockholm syndrome where Taemin is both the "criminal" and victim within his own mind and "IDEA" employs the concept of Plato's Theory of Forms which states that any created being (form) cannot create itself. Only an outside power/being can be the creator and only that creator (Messiah) can make or be perfection. The "IDEA" MV gives us a front seat view of the epic battle between the two egos represented by hell ("criminal") and heaven ("victim") while also searching for the the one, perfect version of himself. With such philosophical and personal concepts, you must realize that while Taemin doesn't write ALL of the lyrics to his songs, he MUST tweak them and the music score (which he has also done) to fit into his vision and concepts. The average lyricists is not going to write songs with such specificity and depth. They would not be marketable to the wider artists and audience. Thanks for the deep dive.

Do you have a social media where you speak more of your thoughts? You are the first person to explain Guiltys meaning in an actually accurate way by going by the source material and not just regurgitate the same tired talking points everyone else does. I would love to hear more of your thoughts on Taemins work! If u don’t want to share that’s fine and if u don’t have something where you write your thoughts out, you totally should! I for one would read it.😊

I enjoyed your reaction! Many of Taemins title tracks are actually very deep and not really about romantic relationships, but I think that the true meaning of them might be quite difficult to discover by a casual listener. I'm not sure if diving deeper would interest you, so I'll just give few short examples: Want has strong biblical references and Taemin is basically a devil in it, Criminal is based on Stockholm syndrome and it's about Taemin's internal struggle, Idea is inspired by Plato's Theory of Forms and depicts Taemin finding his ideal self, Guilty is a difficult and personal piece that I'm afraid to describe in fear that I'll do it wrong, hopefully someone else will comment on that, but it's also more of an internal dialogue and his struggles as an artist and person who debuted at a very young age. Anyway, Taemin also said more than once that he enjoys when people freely interpret his songs 😊 and I think that seeing them as pieces on relationships is also correct. He makes these songs in a way that they have multiple meanings.

If you want to see him and Jimin together, the joint performance they did that they talked about was called Showdown and is on here. They also did two dance challenges - Hard and Guilty - and there is just something extra when they do those together. Not saying others don't do it well, they just match each other stylistically and have that extra undefinable thing.

✍️Taemin himself writes the text (Heven, Holly Whatever, I'm Crying, Think of you, Day and night, Pansy), the song together with the author Criminal, Under My Skin and many others) but he can correct the text until it is unrecognizable. Entirely choreography by Taemin Want, Artistic Groove, Day and night (music is also his, text, and choreography), Temin is able to come up with a dance in a free style and always makes his own changes to the texts, music and choreography. But Taemin is a perfectionist and therefore does everything to our limits human strength
@maggot22596 ай бұрын
Yes many choreographers have said he makes the choreo his own and just by watching the og or dance practice compared to newer live stages he does change many choreos and does it more than once, he's a perfectionist and can change 1 choreo several times like Day and Night(which is is why i think he doesnt do choreo fully because when he does like Day and Night he has to change it because he isnt satisfied with it, it can be for other reason ofc but thats my thoughts on it)

Thank you for a great reaction. Taemin is a true artist and legend in the industry. 🩵 Taemin is so involved in his concepts and for Guilty he worked with the director he’s been working with for a few years now. As you mentioned he does also write including beautiful ballads. He’s also choreographed some songs too. Guilty was inspired by “Demian” by Hermann Hesse. The quote “The bird fights it’s way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world” sums up Taemin. People try to box him in but he’s ever evolving and pushing the boundaries. Another book that inspired Guilty was Eroticism by Georges Batille - it’s about taboo, sacrifice, transgression and sensuality. So much lore behind Guilty it’d take forever to explain but you’ll understand more as you get to know him more. I’d suggested watching his “The Stage” interview. If you’re interested in albums his “Never Gonna Dance Again” series is probably his best work in exploring these themes as well as his identity. There is “Never Gonna Dance Again Act 1” & “Never Gonna Dance Again Act 2”. You’ve reacted to both Idea and Criminal off these albums already. 🖤

Taemin does write some of his own lyrics! All members of SHINee have written songs, with Johnghyun also composing and producing. SHINee are also all soloists with multiple albums and singles in Korean and Japanese. Key includes songs that he's written in English as he's fluent. Taemin's coming for everyone; you, your wife, your husband, your mom, your kids, your grandparents, your friends, your enemies, your pets, your plants, the very Earth itself. Once you Taem-In, you can't Taem-Out.

Most of his title tracks explore his relationship with fame and identity. The lyrics sound generally more commercial but the meaning has layers. "Criminal," for example, talks about being complicit in his own victimization; "Want" talks about self-objectification. "Guilty," explores breaking taboos, it conveys ambivalence toward being sexualized and how finally he was able to take control of his body and sexuality. The whole concept brings up images of exhibitionism and voyeurism (peepholes, images suggestive of him being naked in the materials included in the album) and objectification related to being a performer. Sometimes you can feel a BDSM sub-tone. His concepts are generally dark, introspective, and kinky. Tons of discussions in reddit about the meaning of the videos.

Hey Jonathan thanks for this. I’m 43, I’ve been going to gigs since I was 15 (rage against the machine was my first!) and I got into BTS a couple years ago. They’re rock star level in terms of performance and songwriting. I’ve tried checking out other Kpop but it’s generally very young people being taught how to sing dance and “rap” to appeal to pop music lovers so if you like authentic lyrics, you generally won’t get it within Kpop, which is why BTS often isn’t classed as Kpop. However a lot of the Suchwita guests are songwriters in their own time, or great performers who make a song come alive, so it’s been fun to discover the diamonds via the show. I’d add Rosé from Blackpink knowing she was into music for music’s sake as a kid and wrote songs and played guitar too, and often the Hybe/Big Hit trainees are encouraged to songwrite so even New Jeans have writing credits on some of their songs. I believe you can see this authenticity in their music. I’m not much of a pop fan in general so I completely understand you when you say lyrics and songwriting are important, I agree. But you’ll notice a lot of Kpop or even just pop fans don’t understand that. It’s the image and simplicity they fall for; which is fine, but ultimately those songs aren’t the ones you want played at your wedding or funeral. They’re not real and can’t evoke emotions. I’d want to be a singer who could draw out emotions. Stick to your guns real ones know! 💜

This is typical bts fans mentally that thinks that bts is the best and are above K-pop. Well news flash, they aren’t. As someone who has liked K-pop for a very long time. I can confidently say and others too , that vocally bts are probably the worst from their generation of boy groups. This thing about bts writes and other K-pop group doesn’t is ignorant and false. Also in bts it’s mainly only RM and Suga that write most of the songs, as they should bc they are rappers. You need to get of your high horse and stop with this childish mentality. Your 43 years old. Just enjoy the music, instead of writing essays how bts is above and better than other K-pop groups like some teenager

I'm 10 minutes in the video and I already hope you will check his live performances! Also, how about watching some compilation of Jimin and Taemin? Jimin did a challenge with Taemin for Guilty, I would love to see your reaction to it!😈

11:25 Please don’t use dang auto-generated CC b/c its literally not what he’s saying at all 😬 There was no available captions for MOVE MV when it came out from what I remember, they were added later.

If he only was singing about toxic love it wouldve been boring but all of them are about himself

lol Taemin loves singing and talking about the concept of the sides of himself so most of his songs are to himself.

If you want to checkout and listen to a group that writes and produces all of their own music 150+ songs I recommend StrayKids. Would love if you checked out some of their music.❤

Writing your own music and getting deep down and personal really isn't SMs vibe IMO, although NCT does write a lot of their music it doesn't really get deep.. it's more surface level no deep thinking music..anywho some of my favorite Taemins songs are 2 Kids, sayonara Hitori and impressionable

jonghyun wrote and produced his own albums and wrote songs for other artists, including Taemin. Even when he does not generally write the original song, Taemin is very involved in the song production and lyrics. In fact, I do not see many people going as personal and putting so much of themselves in their concepts as Taemin. Also many Jonghyun's songs are extremely emotional.

@@lari5891 Jonghyun was special for sure! His talent was massive and 1 in a million. Yes I know Taemin is involved in other aspects of his work.. I didn't say any of what I said as a bad thing, I don't really care if they write their own stuff or not TBH if it sounds good then Imma listen to it ya know?.. I was just saying if that's what he's looking for it's probably not going to be with artists from SM because I'm sure most of the artists follow the same kind of formula where they get demos and then they pick songs that will fit the flow/theme of that album.

@@rebeccabeebe1 yes I understand but I would say that he will not find that in kpop in general.

@@lari5891 you're not wrong! With a few exceptions of course, but most of Kpop is very surface level music very typical "pop"
