Dear brother Mark, I have never met you but I have the sense that you are a sincere, caring and well-meaning person. The purpose of persons like me and others who are giving "different" views is not to discourage you or musicians like you; we want to encourage you to continue to sing beautifully and wonderfully, but also wisely. You are a sweet voice and one can sense God's spirit in your singing. You mentioned that a lot of young people have changed their lives because of that song. I believe that such a thing could happen. However, you and I (and each follower of Yeshu) need to reflect on the past, the present and contemplate on the future. Souls "being saved" should not be the criterion for us to do things. First, we need to be based Biblically. After we are on solid spritual ground, we need to be sensitive to the peoples who will hear, see and observe our goings-on. Jesus is the one saviour; however, peoples are different culturally and we need to be "missional" and be senitive to local culture so that they could hear the Good News and appropriate it to their local culture. We should not be so much preoccupied with musical instruments; what is more important is the genre of music. Please take some time and Google the following: contextualization, mission, music, message, culture - and see what you find. Try to learn a lot; learn from others who have walked the pathways before. Learn how others minister. Learn about being sensitive to culture with music. May God give you and me - and each one who claims to be a follower of Christ a humble heart to be the best we can for his kingdom's sake.
