Yeah I learned to shift with a GT 80 too. My big bro had a TY80, a trials bike! Once a month all the cousins and family would hang out at our grandparents farm. Fishing in the pond, shooting bow and arrows, BB guns, tons of mini bikes and dirt bikes and of course a big cookout. I look back on those days and realize just how lucky we were.

Id love to find one of these GT80s..... even in rough shape to bring back. I love seeing all the bikes I grew up with, or wanting as a kid, in mint condition and running on this channel.

Memories 😊 my first bike was a '72ish Honda Z50 then I graduated to 74ish GT80 all brand new for Christmas. 46 years later I buy an 06 KX100😂 Been (and still) a quad guy from late '90s, but love my KX100.

I've been waiting for this bike. 😊....I knew you said it was your first real dirtbike in 1973, the year I was born. Fine looking little Yamaha, and I love the paintjob on that tank.

My first bike was a red and white '81 GT80 G. I used to tear up the forest roads between Crystal Lake and Old Stafford road in Tolland back before all the houses were there. Good memories....

My 9th birthday present was a 73 Yamaha 60. Had a burnt orange tank and fenders. Started a life long love affair with riding and racing. It had to have a million miles on it. I have one but it is ruff. Maybe someday I will redo it.

My friend had one of those in 9th grade, I used to ride the hell out of it, those Yamahas are very sturdy and well made. I remember we got it so hot me and my friends each took turns pissing on the engine, it would sizzle and stink. Poor little bike kept going.

My first bike was a 79 GT80. It was street legal with headlamp, breaklights and turn signals. I pissed off my parents when I made mine an MX and took all that off but the headlight. I was 10.

😈😈😈 with all our metal creativity with harder compounds .. why not have hardened crome molly rings stainless steel sleeves ... so 4 strokes like 250 cc last much longer .... i hear dudes who race are like .... 20 hours or something needs top end rebuild ... even 2 stokes for the road lucky to get 1000 kms before rebuild .... i guess thats why i bought a xr 65p but i still run its neck digging for power , constantly at full throttle ... rode my mates rebuilt 600 i useed a quater throttle as it tried to throw me ..., i feel ripped off even payed 300 for a dyno tune nothing! Just left it sit there till i got back charged me 300 😈😈😈😈😈
