THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO APPRECIATE THE ABOVE CONCERT: I have to comment on the statement that this concert had little to do with George Duke by @ Laszlo Kamaker and the other comment by @ jat4xx regarding my singing. Number one, myself and Drummer Gorden Campbell were called to do this tribute concert for George by his manager about a week before we flew to Indonesia to do it. Number two, we had all of two days to rehearse with everyone else on stage that (donated) their time and talents to the effort... They didn't get paid to do it!!! George was a dear friend and I had the pleasure of playing on seven or eight of his CD's. This was the first time that I stood on a stage and played George Duke's Music without him standing there smiling back at me, so it was extremely emotional for me and for Gorden, but we did our very best to pull it off. The concert had everything to do with George Duke!!! We had no time, no budget and no singers that knew the music except myself. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but at least use your opinions in an intelligent and informed way. If you don't what went into a thing to make it happen, don't sit at home in front of your computer typing negative comments that mean nothing and make you seem very small. If you don't have good and positive things to say about others... don't speak. Life Lesson Number One. Peace, LK

dear Larry, thanks for your respond, I am not questioning your love for your friend/mate George Duke at all! You are a great one of my favorite musician and the other musicians too. only thing I have to say about that concert: if it's not ready yet and not sounds like how suppose to be sounds, it's better wait and don't do it at all then do it an "O.K.way/level. George Duke deserve to be played perfectly. He was your really good friend...( I loved him very much too I got all his music...) about who got paid or not...it's not important of curse. If it's me I would make sure after the concert everybody who knew George Duke or not will see and feel his greatness... peace, LK

I do understand and thank you very much for your response... I really meant no disrespect to you, and you're probably right. They rushed us into it and it was ragged in many aspects. The one thing I will say about the performance was that is was spontaneous just like George loved to do live shows. He hated rehearsing (Frank Zappa Days) and so he would do a lot of things off the cuff like we did that night. That's what made it pure George Duke on the one hand... Peace my Brother, and God Bless!!! LK

Joanna, that's the sweetest thing you could've ever said. I truly appreciate it, and I know that the other musicians do as well. God bless you and keep you, and we all will keep George's awesome memory and legacy alive in the music that we sing and play every day. Sincerely, LK

One thing is for sure, George Duke will never ever be forgotten with passionate and loving fans of his music/legacy like of all of you who truly understand who George is... For those who don't know G as well as you might think you do, George's live concerts were never "perfect" because he HATED to rehearse. This is because of the years he spent with Frank Zappa rehearsing many hours a day. It burned him out. So, he relied on musicians that knew his music best to pull the tunes off in a way that was musical and fun for him. You see, G didn't take himself quite as seriously as some of you might think. He was a fun loving teddy bear of a man who loved to play and have one of a kind moments happen... period. Those type pf moments cannot happen when everything is "perfect". "Perfect" is mechanical and there was nothing mechanical about George Duke. So you see, in many ways, this concert was just what the doctor ordered for George's Tribute. Even George's Memorial service included lots of unrehearsed, spontaneous music. I think, no, I know that he loved it all... mistakes included! Now you know... Peace, LK

FZ, G Duke and G Benson are high end. That is perfection, to write things, to compose them and make them so strong so other artists do them as top hits. For that you dont need only good musicians to play every note, u need soul and skills to improvise. If u ever come to Serbia, Ill be in first row in ur concert. Btw, no rhyme no reason is the most powerful song I ever heard! Thank you!

We had a ball doing this... Mistakes and all! On "Sweet Baby" I had the lyrics right in front of me, but I had mistakenly marked the background vocal parts in all RED INK thus every time I tried to read the verses, my eyes were drawn to the wrong parts>>> I COULDN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF OF THEM!!! IT WAS SO WEIRD!!! :-( I hope that George didn't mind too much... It was an extremely emotional time for Gorden Campbell and I, as this was the first time that we ever had to play George's music without him being there with us... I cried a lot during the rehearsals. Anyway, please enjoy what we tried to present for my dear friend and mentor, Mr. George Duke!

A correction: Maurice “Mobetta” Brown played trumpet awesomely throughout the tribute but I don't think he did any vocals. Missing from the list is the lady who jammed vocally on Reach for It along with Momrelle, clearly familiar with tune. I think she also appears in a 2009 T-Jam video with Duke's band. Who is she? I'm assuming she wasn't left off attribution purposefully but I think she should be recognized since she has a connection to George Duke and paid tribute.

I appreciate the good and the not so good comments because you'll NEVER be able to please everyone in this world! This was simply an impromptu Jam Session... The kind of thing that my friend and mentor, George Duke LOVED!!! He was all about spontaneity in the music (mistakes and all) and I know that he was in the room that night on stage with us laughing and smiling just as he always did! Thanks again everyone and Happy Holidays! Blessings, LK

+Larry Kimpel - Thank you for taking the time to connect with George's fans. George has had a profound influence on my life. His piano solo on Brazilian Love Affair was genial, original and typical of his creativity, the whole album was an amazing fusion of American Jazz and Brazilian music. I saw George live with Stanley Clarke in London after the release of the Clarke Duke Project which was disappointing, sadly I think the band had indulged in certain substances and the gig was way below the standard George would have expected. Several years later I saw George at the Jazz Café in London. This time he was spot on, he invited several guys from the audience to come up and play keyboards with his killer band, it only served to show what a great musician George was and how the people who got up were not!! If I remember correctly you played on his Illusions album and you made a great contribution to a very solid album. In many ways George will probably be best remembered for his funk albums of the late 70s and the wonderful musicians he attracted and guided to produce some wonderful music, Charles Johnson, Byron Miller and Sheila E were all playing with George when they were young and helped create some iconic recordings. RIP George.

Thank you Larry Kimpel for the Tribute! George childhood friend took me to George's house in 1992 while I was on active duty in the U.S. Navy. I had the opportunity to play for George. Although I was a little nervous, he made me feel comfortable and complimented my creativeness and improvisational skills. Like many of his friends and fans, I miss him and will soon honor him by performing an arrangement of his "Muir Woods Suite." Much Mahalo!

Met George Duke him at the Glenside Theatre outside of Philly the year before he passed. He graciously signed my CD and we chatted.about my keyboard playing. I told him Ijust learned how to play No Rhyme No Reason on the piano that day. It was my first GD concert, when he performed with Marcus Miller and David Sanborn. He asked me what took me so long to come to finally one of his concerts. But before I could answer he put his hand on my shoulder and looked me in the eye as he smiled and said he was just glad I was there. I will always treasure that momet. RIP George!

Isn't it incredible even after someone has passed someone they can still leave something of themselves behind that can still reach down and touch the very fibres of your being. With George Duke's music there certainly was something for most music lovers. I shed a small tear listening to the rendition of Brazilian Love Affair as it was played, the album was the first George Duke album I really listened to. He fell in love with the Brazilian sound and through his music I fell in love with it too. A beautifully crafted album. Thanks for uploading the tribute - good that this man is remembered. My favourite part was Indra Lesmana's very "Duke-esque" solo:- 48:49 to 50:17

And thank you guys for an amazing tribute, I cannot believe that anyboody has had negative stuff to say about these artists. I did not read anything because I concentrated on the beauty of the music and the respectful and passionate enthusiasm of the performers. Indeed George was listening too and I am sure he had a big smile on him, RIP, Mr. Duke.

Thanks, Larry K for the "Duke Tribute Jam"! I first got to see George at the ol' Agora in Cleveland back in the mid-70's - around the time of "Faces in Reflection" (w/Ndugu and Beard) - loved him ever since!

Thanks Larry - If this is how the band plays when it's under-rehearsed, then I'd love to see them when they're fully wound up. Love this set. George would be very proud!!
