The actors originally worked on this scene from 'The Woodsman' (Kevin Bacon) in acting class. The work
was lovely so we decided to film it in the actual setting. Enjoy! actottawa.com

No offense to either of these actors, but watching this, as compared to the movie, you see just how amazing Kevin Bacon and Hannah Pilkes are as actors. They made this scene SO emotional. I can't imagine anyone equaling their portrayal of this moment.
@jackdaknife
@jackdaknife 10 жыл бұрын
It wasn't meant to be equal to the moment, it was a portrayal of the dialog that could have been. It has its own light on a very dark matter that in most terms goes unquestioned by a fellow sex offender. This version simply shows what we would have wanted to be said, but yet even more of what could have been done. He as a sex offender further reaches out than the original scene, but alas with a hopefully better result. The child seeking help. Well done to this.

She doesn't look as if she's been molested by her father or an outcast. I mean she a cheery bright and colorful outfit. She looks like one of the popular girls. And like Lalo3001 said she looks confident but in a quiet sort of way.
@CurlyFromTheSwirly

The whole point of the bright outfit is alluding to the red dress of Little Red Ridding Hood. In the movie, she wears red. But they went overboard and comical on this version.

This was good, but highlights what an incredible talent Kevin Bacon is. The thing this rendition is missing the most is how powerfully and loudly Kevin Bacons eyes delivered dialogue in their own way. His eyes said SO MUCH MORE than his voice or mannerisms. If you just looked at Kevin's eyes during the scene you'd still get the gist and emotional storytelling of the interaction between the girl and Kevin Bacons characters. Also Kevin Bacon, when trying to seduce the girl, played it somewhat timid and desperate - like he needed a fix of a drug but was afraid to ask for it. The actor in this youtube reel played the seduction part pretty sleezy, more like a sociopathic manipulator. I support his making a a different choice and not just emulating Kevin Bacon, but I do not like his choice and feel that is sullies the impact of the entire piece. This actor REACHES out to exhibit the self-hatred of the main character, but fails to get there and overall just doesn't deliver the genuine fear of self and self-loathing that the entire character and film revolves around. Kevin Bacon is a master of his craft, and recreating anything done by a master craftsman will invariably draw belittling comparisons. There's just no way this actor can fairly compete or even PAY TRIBUTE to Kevin Bacons performance, unless he 1) is as good or better actor than KB or 2) changes his interpretation of the scene enough that it cant be directly compared. Unfortunately there are only a handful of actors at KBs level, and this scene was a near-direct imitation of the feature films scene. There's just no way this would NOT get compared to KB and absolutely no world in which that comparison would be very positive. That being said - IN A VACUM - where this piece is judged on its own merits, pretending that the Kevin Bacon version doesnt exist - its very good "not quite career professional" acting on the Man's part. He still doesn't seem FULLY comitted to his character - he doesn't fully believe, and it hurts his presentation. The girl, however, was stellar. Still not enough eye and facial expression, but otherwise she's probably ready for feature film or TV work. Id cast her in a heartbeat if she was local (SoCal) and non-union.

The Kevin bacon character was very manipulative and sociopathic with the child. He was heavily flirting with her and trying to reel her in. In fact, he was still very dangerous at the end.

Dude .. your analysis on point. Especially the timid, desperate seducing is so vital to this. There is also this kind of innocence the real Walter has (he doesn't want to hurt her). All so subtle and therefore touching. The fake Walter here is just kinda deviously flirting to a shy woman; when he realizes that she is being molested by her father, he gets overly emotional ... it doesn't fit to his character shown before ... as u stated: " he doesn't seem FULLY comitted ... " As a hobby actor I see the whole thing here negatively: we all do it because we are proud of what we have achieved, but really better NEVER show a play, that is not where it needs to be. Even seconds of "out of character" can ruin the whole impression. The girl was okay/good, the man has to step up. Sorry, but so it is.

Good scene! I was confused though. Is the male actor supposed to be Kevin Bacon? Or did KB direct the scene & filming? I thought KB looked differently to this man? Loved the original of this scene (another video ). In this one the girl isn't really believable as a victim but she is good enough to partner the male actor who does a great job with his lines! Yes, the girl looks too old for this scene. I know nothing about acting but I enjoyed the scene. It was very moving.

WHY SO MANY MEAN OR IGNORANT COMMENTS? First of all, these two from acting school did such a difficult scene quite well! Second, it's touching, here and in the movie, to imagine a reformed pedophile striving to control himself. A man's attraction to children is not asked for, and realizing how vulnerable a child is and desiring not to harm the child is a lesson to convey to everyone that encounters children [just about everyone], including parents who selfishly fight and/or split up, etc. Really caring about children is to avoid harming them at all costs, and, sometimes, giving up one's life to protect them from harm, as principal and teachers did at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Finally, of course, children must be taught to be so cautious of strangers, because people like Ted Bundy have reminded us that one may not be able to tell the difference between a kindly person who really cares and a deadly monster pretending to care!!!

@@crimsongrave101 You're confusing pedophiles with child molesters. Not all pedophiles are child molesters. Also, what Derrick said about pedophiles not asking for or wanting to be attracted to children is true. Who would choose to be societal outcast of the worst kind??

Good effort - you can see the difference in acting ability between the movie and this tribute, but that only points up for me just how hard it is to really act well. I can see him trying just a little too hard, with a little too much emotion, and her not showing enough emotion. Also the girl's age and clothing might need to be tweaked a bit - I imagine a girl who's been abused at home would tend to want to disappear into the background, not stand out in bright colours. Still, great effort, keep it up! :)

Hmm. The girl was a little too old & too pretty for this role... too much womanly beauty to portray an 11 yr old victim. Great acting tho. I liked the additional lines & appreciate the concept of the story. It's easy to just hate people who have these fucked up desires, but no-one could hate them more than themselves. Really, this makes you see this guy as a human being who might have had something similar happen in his past, and might actually be able to become normal with enough support.

The girl is too old, and the guy is way too over the top obvious. There's no battling emotions, just creepiness. The girl is just awful. It's like she can't decide how she wants to play the scene so she tries a bunch of different ways in the span of a few seconds. And she just seems...flirty. It feels wrong to say considering the subject matter, but she seems really flirty and over confident. And why, why, why all the extra added lines? The art and power of the original came from the simplicity. Glad to see this is an acting /class/, because damn do these people need work.
