Just found out I had this but just a mild form, so got kinda lucky. I have stopped all the pulling, and its not a serious issue for me anymore.

im' a man who's been pulling since i was about 14 years old. i'm 33 now. the only way i've been able to get control of it was by realizing what i'm doing. i still pull out my chin hair and pubes, places that arent usually obvious. literally the only thing that's helped me is to realize what i'm doing. once i notice i'm pulling i think about what i'm doing and try to stop it.i still pull, but not on purpose, it's usually when my hands have nothing to do. like i said, the only thing to help is to realize what you're doing and notice it. you have a great point though, finding other things to do, but when we're alone, our instinct is to just pull. i still pull from my head ocasionally, and other places, it's not something we can just quit. i think there's some kind of ocd disorder but i can't figure it out.when i'm really stressed out i notice it happening often. shit, i do it in my sleep sometimes. it's a mental problem, and the key is to noticing when you're doing it. i know this is an old video, but to anyone with this problem, realize what's happening and know that you're doing it. the only people that can help is our own self.

Welcome to the club! I had it back when no one knew what it was. It makes me angry like no other. Women tend to be very understanding about it. Never talk about it with my homeboys.

Sections are gone of mine, but I know I can stop. It always scared me (for a week or so) because I looked up " Doing this can cause it to be extremely severe and your eyelashes may never grow back." but it's not the entire eye. Just half of one. Now I know that it's nothing to fear. Thanks. :)

I’d love to know how you’re doing with your trichotillomania now… I found your video years ago and it helped. My fight with it had become a journey and I’m still on it. It’s been a great ride :)

I have it too. I'm also a guy. I'm 35 years old and still pull out my hair. You may not ever stop pulling your hair but you can learn to except this is who you are. Are you pulling from anywhere besides your eye lashes? I know you posted this awhile ago so how you holding up now?

I only pull my chin hair if I shave or trim short enough its not a issue but when long enough it is an addiction to the point of sores and beard hair everywhere. I do it all the time stressed or not it's almost mind numbing.

Pretty sure it's a life-long biochemical issue. Not entirely psychological, and definitely not all social. The logic that it's triggered by trauma seems doubtful to me, but it seems to be due to a build up of nervous energy rather than a conscious 'habit' or anxiety outlet. The difference is in how it manifests, where it's typically a subconscious problem - although if you encounter yourself looking in the mirror to cut or pull at your hair, it may be more of an obsessive-compulsive/OCPD issue. Consciously attending to your compulsion will help, but considering many people experience trich all over their body in lasting phases (myself included), short-term guided therapy plus long-term medication may be your best option. Mind you, I am NOT a medical professional, this is just my rationalization, so please let me know what your thoughts are!

I have the same problem and I'm so ashamed I started when I was 11 years old. I have bald spots on the sides of my scalp and my parents think I have something else but I have this. I can't stop I've been trying to hide it from my family and my friends I wish I had my hair back but I can't ever have my middle school years back with my beautiful brown long hair. I'm so sad I just want it to stop.

my 13 yr old just started this about 2months ago. First his eye brows with his fingers and then his eye lashes and nowwww he has a bold spot on the top of his head with school about to begin!! Now since his counselor treats him with prozac he says that will work?? I doubt it now that i learn this researching tonight. This is more then anxiety obviously

Anyone trying the no Gluten diet? If so is it working or not? I hear some negative side effects for taking gluten from your diet if you are not diagnosed with celiac disease.
