Hotrod magazine tested the TFS 205 11r heads against the AFR 205 heads on the same 408ci sbf. The trick flow heads in that particular combination made 7hp more on the top end over the AFR heads. Also ZSR engines built a 374ci-- 302 based engine with a solid roller, 205 11r heads, and on pump gas it made 712hp around 7800rpm. Just a couple of examples as they are pretty decent heads. Thanks for everything you do Eric!

I’ve done these heads before for my 410w. Leave the chambers alone, leave the short side alone, don’t touch it. I had 2.08/1.60 valves and 2.72” at the pinch, head flowed over 330cfm at .750 on a 4.030 and held it to .850, fell off around 1-2cfm past .750”. Height over the short turn helps the heads a lot. Imo they left the intake ports stock height for marketability and manifold selection.

For sbf stuff i dont get why raised runners are such a big deal. If you had a couple spacers for the china wall and extended the intake flanges you can raise the runner all you want. The distributor mounts to the block and there is usually a ton of clearance. You could raise the runners 1/4" without even trying and probably 3/4" if you wanted a different distributor body. You are already in for a set of head castings, how much would it be for a new distributor that works with a proper port location?

Eric thank you for doing this. These are the EXACT same heads I have on my 331. It's got an FTI solid roller that makes steam to just North of 8000. If an SBF Dyno Mule becomes a thing, I'll be contributing a few Sheckles.

The intake runner is also shorter bc the twisted wedge design. In theory, the 190 on a shorter runner acts like a bigger runner. At least that's how it's been explained to me.

Like the video. Always been an NA person. Ran the inline head for quite some time in my youth. AFR had the market with the 165 and the right cam guy for quite some time. Switched to the twisted wedge 20 or so years ago and never looked back. Kept the cam guy though! :) Would love to see a real track to track comparison of a 225cc high port vs a 225cc R head. Set up the same way, in N/A form.

Yes indeed: if valves get stood up and the runner is not raised... short turn becomes a problem. Beyond that, there seems to be some semi settled science: n/a stops near 13 degrees, and 11 is pretty much boost territory? I haven't seen enough builds to be anywhere close to sure, but it seems to be roughly true.

Hi Eric, I’ve been watching your videos specifically for the SBF twisted wedge heads. My little project has a set of cheap (Back then) 170 twisted heads fast as cast and I want to clean the runners, bowls, and chambers on them to have better flowing. Don’t know if you can suggest little things like intake/exh. Bowls diameter, throat percentage diameter. And a question keeps coming to my mind is ‘Is the throat centered to the valves seat or it is offset??? Those heads still mounted on the car so I don’t know how they look. Valves are Int. 2.020” exh. 1.600” and have 3 angle seats. I really like your videos and been learning a lot with your extended explanations. I already subscribed to your channel and will keep my eyes on your videos. Hope you have great Christmas Holidays 🎄 José CE

Nooooo, Say it ain't so Eric! Dammit, you just burst my bubble on going with 11R's over AFR's on my last build. 😂😂 Oh well, it still runs hard and I'm a little different than all the AFR cars at the Strip. I guess it's time to save up for some CHI or Higgins heads =)
@packhousetv3 ай бұрын
Twisted wedge heads in every test I have ever seen or read made more power than a head commensurate to it( usually by just a little bit).However, all those tests had rather small cams and a low rpm speeds. For some reason most ford dyno tests are done with small camshafts. Usually below 240 degrees of duration @ .050. So , you are probably right if those heads get used on a max effort engine.

Pretty sure you can get off the self pistons now for the twisted wedge heads. Have you seen the newest old man garage when Tony showed up talking about the new trick flow he’s got, pretty sure they’re a high port design, but think they did make the car a tad faster compared to the afr that was on it. Finally got the Promaxx heads on my sbf I got from you in March. Had to just kiss the intake valve reliefs in the pistons. May could’ve gotten away without opening them up but the eye brow made me nervous. Just opened that part up a touch. I mean buzz buzz and done.

Here is an experiment you can do: flow a head at 3 or 4 different levels of vacuum - you should see the port get unstable sooner at higher velocities to show everyone why you keep flowing to 1" of lift

Thanks, Eric. I never liked the original TW head. I've used them, and they did not impress me. I switched to using AFR and High Ports. Back in the day, the in the corral forums 99%of the people thought the TW was the best Windsor head ever made. And your combination was garbage if you didn't use TW heads and a custom cam from Jay Allen or FTI. From personal experience, the original TFS High Ports are a much better head than the original TW or 11R. Most really high HP NA small block Fords use Cleveland heads. I think one reason you don't see a lot of people build windors is because they don't use a head that can support the airflow demands. Use a head with 400 cfm on the intake and 230+ on the exhaust. I think ported High Ports, like the ones you used to be able to get from Fox Lake and TEA. I think Higgins, and CHI Cleveland head are about your only options unless you want to go billet. SBC and LS have a lot more selection of heads that flow close to 400 cfm.

@smoa1114 ай бұрын
For a budget head I agree. You may also look at Dart's SHP SBF 210 heads part #128225 and they currently sell complete set up for a hydraulic roller for $599 each which is pretty hard to beat for a decent budget head. These are set up with springs good to .650 lift for a hydraulic roller. They are the exact same castings that Promaxx uses except they do not do the mild clean up behind the valves. Also I believe they use a 2.05 intake valve vs the 2.08 that Promaxx uses. I am sure Eric can port either head and really make them shine!
