I just started getting back into the Mopar scene with my son after 25+ years and there is 20 times more aftermarket parts available now than when I was building Mopar drag cars 25+ years ago. It's just ashamed that the NEW eurotrash owned Mopar Corporation (or whatever it's name is today) only sells parts for there new garbage and now they don't offer anything like they use to for big block and small blocks when it was American Owned!!! Just like everything else in this country that has been sold out to foreigners and turned to shit.

Love to see the mopar stuff and was really happy to see a review of this particular head. Just an FYI the one warning saying special shaft rockers required is only for use on the newer magnum blocks. The newer magnum blocks oil through the pushrods like a chevy. The older blocks oil the factory shaft rockers through a passage in the block, up the head, and into the rocker shafts.

Precisely designed for the common street hot rod with .550 lift. These need different shafts because of the mounting towers are lower then factory or Indy/ mopar performance has. The bolt pads are flat, not curved.
@nickwheaton15272 жыл бұрын
Actually they can use any normal rocker set as long as they're on an LA block. If you install them on a newer magnum block you need a rocker set that oils through the push rod because that's how the magnums oil. They don't have the oil passage feeding the heads. That's what that warning was about.

Glad you did a Mopar head. And I’m sure the reason you only got three Mopar heads over time is because that’s not your focus and you don’t have the equipment to flow them. If you build it they will come. I’m sure only a fraction of the gem stuff but I’m sure you’d get much more Mopar clients if that was something you were to get into. I know you’re super busy, and likely have no desire to venture into the Mopar world, but perhaps you could get a few donations from the Mopar world to get the plate so you could flow Mopar heads. I’d help chip in as the Mopar world is a lonely one….

Good review, thanks. Years ago I read in the Mopar build books about not only the valve angle being desirable, but the valves also open on the bore center line. I don’t hear that mentioned anymore and wondering if it doesn’t much matter since the cross sectional area upstream of the valve is too small anyway? In the ‘70s they had a lot of success with the W2 head program that offset the rockers and eliminated the pushrod pinch.

I just stumbled on this video. Nice afford piece for those like me that can't afford the high end Indy or R3/W9 stuff. I wonder if you could get the heads and you choose the valve brand and get hollow stem intake valves. Would it be worth using them in a mild solid roller application? Also, bet they'd be good on a 340" 4.040" stock bore
@dang55532 жыл бұрын
If think a 190 on a 360 you going to need like 10-11.1 compression. That’s means what a 220-245 @50 flat tappet hydraulic. Or 230-250 on with a hydraulic roller. So you adjustable rockers get the sharps be happy mopar has 190 cc head. Very nice video

Wonder why they don't have the modern gt40p/vortec style chambers, or aftermarket kidney shaped? Factory exhaust port location and plug placement doesn't allow it maybe? Always thought the Mopar factory shafts were a great setup, Ford and Chevy could've done that back in the 60's for the Windsor and small block. still amazes me they didn't. At least Ford used a pedestal mount in later years. Chevy never changed from 1954 through 2000.

Anyone who tells you 345 cfm is too much for 440 ci is full of shit. We've had cast iron W2 small block heads from the Dark Ages that move 330 cfm on 345ci engines. There's a lot more to it than whoever told you that. It's like inlet valve size and people saying that a particular intake valve is too big for for "x" engine......without knowing just how HARD it is to over inlet valve an engine.

You and other's must not be aware or are ignorant too the fact that top fuel racers continue to use Mopar designs and never watched 60s 70s 80s and 90s drag racing in sportsman classes. If Mopar had the aftermarket backing that generic motors had, gm and firds would be the underdogs in every aspect.

I'd guess valve job and valve. The valve job and the valve are pretty much the only influence on low lift flow numbers. I'd bet that if Eric did a 50° valve job and cut the valve to match it would pick up significantly in the low lift range.

@flinch6222 жыл бұрын
I would say mass produced heads go out decent [yet needing valve seats inspected], and there is always something that purchasers must do if they want to get the absolute best performance for their application. They don't know the things of your vehicle: weight, cam, intended rpm range, header size, etc. I try to buy heads that are the closest likely match for operational needs, and leave room to do a few things. But your question: yes, everything has compromises. Dictate space, and material limitations may exclude some things, and so on. Toughness of metal is a compromise between hardness and plasticity [range between yield and break point] - go too far to one side, and failure awaits. It's an analog world when building stuff: digital answers don't make the grade often - hence flowbench testing.
