I have a 2015 high country 5.3 I use E-85 eight to nine months out of the year. I live in Nebraska E-85 is readily available here. I don’t run it in winter because it gets too cold here the ethanol makes it very hard to start cold in freezing temperatures. I have tens of thousands of miles running E-85 with my high country with no issues. I average 14 mpg running E-85. Often times our E will test up to 90% ethanol. I prefer it over petroleum products. I have a 2007 Silverado 1500, with a 5.3 and been using it in the Summer for years. With some research, I don't prefer it in the bitter cold here in the Dakotas. It is all over in South Dakota and higher octane which I can feel the difference. My salesman said if it is .50 or more cheaper per gallon than 10% ethanol, it is worth using. Usually it is .60 .70 or more cheaper per gallon than 10% here. Great videos! Keep em coming!!

I got a 2014 LTZ with the 5.3 flex fuel and e85 definitely adds a decent amount of power. Fuel cost is actually more though. But the power is worth it. And There’s a gas station with e85 about a mile or two from my house. The flex fuel injectors recognizes the higher ethanol and sprays more thus giving you more power and less fuel economy. Worth it.

After you fill it with e85 or higher octane your car doesn't change while you driving, You should drive it for some miles so the car notice there are different fuel ,, then turn off the engine and turn it on again to let the engine change the ignition timing and makes some power
@just_another_gearhead
@just_another_gearhead 2 жыл бұрын
That's wrong, it does change on the fly, that's why the sensor is there it reads in real time and will adjust spark and fuel according to ethanol content. I don't know where you got that info but the ecu is always changing fuel and timing, depending on 02 sensor data, knock sensor, mass air flow and manifold absolute pressure data, intake air temperature data, and if you have flex fuel, it changes based on ethanol content as well. It does all of these changes on the fly, as you drive. That's why you can drive up and over a mountain without the car flooding out and dying.
@w3910
@w3910 2 жыл бұрын
@@just_another_gearhead maybe you’re right, but i got this info from a tuner and he’s a well known guy and he told me that the car will do little adjustment after start up again .
@just_another_gearhead
@just_another_gearhead 2 жыл бұрын
@@w3910 if it couldn't adjust for ethanol content on the fly, going from gasoline to e85, it would run lean..very quickly. Seeing as the ecu needs to add around 30% more fuel. Numerous times I have left my truck running while filling up from gasoline to e85...no issues, and you can feel to difference. I think your tuner is talking about other brands like Dodge and Ford, I'm not sure if they still do it but those manufacturers use to build a virtual map based off of 02 sensor readings. On those vehicles you do need to shut the car off, their flex system isn't as good as GM's, which uses an actual sensor. Even the aftermarket flex systems typically use OEM GM flex fuel sensors.

Used to drive a 99 7.3 powerstroke ,and went 460 miles per tank on Chevron diesel,versus 410 miles with shell from 3 different shell stations .. everything I've owned runs better on Chevron and Exxon Mobil than it does with shell...
@just_another_gearhead
@just_another_gearhead 4 жыл бұрын
Ok, so I have an e85 station withing 2 miles of my workplace and I have a company fuel card...so although it takes about 30% more ethanol to make the same thermal efficient as straight gasoline...the benefits are that these pickups (I have a 2014 ltz) respond tremendously to e85...they also run much cooler, as in overall heat...alcohol displaces heat. I can really feel the difference when pulling a trailer, yes I eat fuel but my engine doesn't struggle and stays cool...it also has the advantage of more power by advancing the ignition timing and cam timing (I have a vvt).BUT the cons of e85 8s that if you don't have a good clean airfilter and good sparkplugs you can run the risk of washing your rings out and inevitably washing your bearings out as well and maybe even ruining the lifters. Just stay smart with e85 and do your maintenance and you'll be able to reap the benefits of a good fuel to optimize your engine....also, think about adding some upper cylinder lubricant adder to your fuel every other fill up or so.

Are conversion kits the same as factory
@just_another_gearhead
@just_another_gearhead 2 жыл бұрын
@@justingonzalez9950 most conversion kits use factory hardware...at least in the GM world they do. Need a bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors, and an e85 sensor. Then will need to get the ecu tuned, on a stock vehicle the tune is easy, they just upload a factory tune from am e85 vehicle with the same engine and transmission amd do some minor tweaking here and there to optimize it.

For my 2015 GMC double cab 4.3 v6 base model put 20 in Denali wheels all terrian tires so it doesn't look like a work truck no more. On regular 87 i average around 20 mpg or sometimes little better or worse, when i first tried e85 i had about a eighth of a tank so put 10 gallons of e85 didn't notice to much then once it was almost completely empty filled all the way on e85 then i noticed the power gain but yes it 30% cheaper but you lose the same in mpg 30% i averaged between 14 and 16 mpg with e85 and im pretty easy on the peddle driver.
