Hey Man we had a crazy mutt black lab just like yours, please appreciate every day you have with him, I wish I did what you do now, going out in the woods and making videos, we lost him 2014, I miss him like a son, he was always there, always interested, 2Blessed is he who has a best friend, especially if they have four feet2. Not sure if I just made that up or it belongs to someone else, but it rings true. I have never had a relationship so honest as with a four-legged friend. Great video Man

Another one for the books . Have used what is called a tip stick for holding firewood upright and splitting with an axe , hatchet or large knife , but have never seen this done . Thanks & Happy New Year from Utah .

Interesting technique utilizing the blade of that CRKT and natural materials working for you. Can't help but seeing the great ware on that blade, that CRKT has seen some work. Awesome stuff, dog has filled put nicely friend. Hope you are having a great winter.

Thanks Gary! I've definitely put some miles on that blade. The handle had finger grooves that didn't line up well with my hands, so I carved them down, but after that I was really happy with it.

The sparks aren't nearly as hot or numerous as with a dedicated striker, so it can take a lot of patience.

Thanks for the reply--I understand, and apologize for the ambiguity. After spending a fair amount of time outdoors and trying many different field knives (4.5--8" blades) I waver over just how much knife (if I were to only have one) would be enough... and what blade profile, and thickness, and steel type, etc... Your videos demonstrate that much of those concerns might be secondary to user skill--and that any simple, well constructed knife will likely serve. Truth is, I rarely just have one, so much of my worry is unfounded. The ESEE 6 has been on my radar for a while--I may have to give it a try. Thanks again.

This is a great video. If you can get the cash together I highly recommend a Bark River Brovo 1.25 Lt. . They are pricey. But very satisfying. No regrets kind of purchase. I like your new blade. I always like to see knives being used. It's the next best thing to using them myself:)
