Yes, back in the olden days open fires were built in pits at the back center of the tipi. It was used for heating and cooking. Today people still sometimes put open fires in but you can also use wood burning stoves.

So that's heavy enough that the wind won't blow it over? Thanks for posting this video.

Your work on this is awesome. What is the size of this lodge, 25 feet or 30 feet?

a nice tipi, but so much energy to heat would be wasted because of the height. my husband and i agree that the base should be wider to avoid slack in the cover, unless the tipi was designed specifically for this deck. we have 2 tipis from earthworks and a third homemade by an old timey rendezvous man. we have set up an additional earthwork tipi twice now for some ladies. there is NOTHING in this world like sleeping in a tipi with the shadows of the cottonwoods dancing in the full moon light. it is akin to religious.

With proper anchoring to the ground (staking) this tipi can withstand very high wind speeds. Thanks for watching!

I read below where you stated that this design was great for withstanding high winds. You inferred that it was superior to a shorter one. How can that be, as it has a larger surface area? Does it bend and give more due to its height? Is that the key?

Dang, the part I wanted to see most was how you pegged the front shut when it's so tall, and that's not in the video. In a moderate tipi, we always have one guy sit on another guy's shoulders to do the front pegs, but that wouldn't work here.

How long are the poles? Mine are 20 feet long
@VE3UET3 жыл бұрын
you guys could have put up your TiPi much easier, if you had the 3rd leg dragging from the oppisite direction, that is how we put up a tri pod on a drill site
@850lamar12 жыл бұрын
You would'nt need the croch block if once you had the tri-pod up you would slide the top end of each pole up the tri-pod allowing the weight of each pole to be carried by the tri-pod.
