Been in a wood shop since 96 and never knew the 3, 4, 5. You can teach and old dog new tricks. Thanks! Everyone loves watching things being repaired, restored, or created that saves time and money and is a common issue, whether it's fixing a BBQ grill, a rust hole in the bottom of the car foot-well with a pop-rivet gun and a piece of sheet metal, or how to braze a piece of copper pipe in the basement. Your content has value. DIY is a big thing today as is being frugal. Beats the wife hitting you in the head with a rolling pin.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't know you could use a grinder to sharpen twist bits. I learned the 3-4-5 rule as a Boy Scout. I would like to see a video on brazing.

I really appreciated the tip about sharpening drill bits. It always bothered me to have dull bits. I don't throw them away, now I can bring at least the standard v-point bits back to life. Been using 3-4-5 forever; great for laying out house foundations where long distances can give great accuracy ( couldn't afford a transit). Checking if a square is square was a headslap Oh Duh! I really appreciate all the great work you are doing to help the Sailing Melody crew!

Nigel, how to make a quick 45 degree template. Find a piece of A4 or Letter size paper (other sizes will do). If it has one straight edge, simply fold that edge against itself and there you have a perfect 45 degree angle. If the paper doesn't have a nice straight edge, fold it once which then gives you a nice straight edge, then do the same as previously mentioned. Although not very durable, it could be getting you out of trouble by saving a trip back to the workshop. Drilling thin sheet steel with ordinary drill bits will give either oversize holes or ones shaped like butterfly wings and even ovals. If you don't have a hole punch, regrind your drill for a shallower inclusive tip angle. I have in the past drilled in increasing larger diameters but that takes time. If you aren't sure whether the metal you have in your hand or are looking at is carbon or stainless steel, use the little clasp flap on your mobile phone case to check as they have a small magnet in them. That is if you have one of those phone cases. Saves going back to the workbench or toolbox. Not sure what thread the bolt is you are looking at? Generally, look on the bolt head. If it's metric there will be a letter 'M' embossed there. For UNC & UNF, look for a letter 'S'. British Standard Whitworth & Fine it will be the letter 'R'. Some really old bolts didn't have these identifications so this is where measuring TPI (threads per Inch) comes in. Or, invest in a set of thread gauges.

3-4-5 is a new one for me 👍 tig welding is something I'm looking to get setup early next year if you could do bit of a mini series focusing on the different setups for ally and stainless at some point would be a good help for me, I'm up in Durham but if you need a volunteer I'd happily make a trip down,

The reason that you have gained so many subs is that you are telling it as it is! This is real, not made up for youtube.
