I love how modern Japanese rock music seems to really embrace jazz concepts, like extended chords, interesting time signatures and LOTS of "constant structure" (playing the same chord type -- it's used a lot in acid jazz and techno). It seems a lot more forward-thinking than popular Western rock music.
@ColtonFagundes10 ай бұрын
There are lotttts of math rock and prog/rock (as well as some of the bands labelled as post-punk or experimental or post rock) bands doing this in western music too. I think what you're observing rather is that there's a higher perportion of rock bands doing this in Japan. I'd say theres actually more western rock bands doing this, its just not proportionately as high becasue there's a lot more western rock bands in general

My friend from W Africa asked what meat was hanging in the window at the Asian butcher. The butcher said "Duck". My friend heard it as "dog" because of the accent. So she asked (with her African accent), "Dog (dock)? Wow wow wow?" The butcher replied, "Yes, duck (dock)... Wah wah wha!" I came between to "translate" and they both laughed their heads off.
When she said "dogs and ducks", I really felt that

As far as I know, all the lyrics in this song are English. It's a lot easier to learn a language from TV than music. You don't have the translation and visual to attach to the words you hear. There are or have been some really good Japanese dramas on Netflix - don't learn Japanese from anime, or you'll talk like an anime character. Yeah, it's different. Anyway that's how I've absorbed the like 11 words of Japanese I know. If you do end up learning it, I have an awesome project that will help you practice, maybe. It's a translation of a playstation game, Zeus 2. I've been in need of a translator for years. I'm personally totally incapable of learning human languages, but I know an awful lot of programming languages, so I have this game hacked to say whatever I tell it to say, but what I want it to say is what the original Japanese means in English, and I just don't know that.

@hazreh3 жыл бұрын
Hard to say, their music is influenced from many areas. Some people consider them math rock but at the same time they make songs like in this video. best way I could put it is they are very experimental but mostly a blend of prog rock (western) and j-pop. If want something similar yet different I recommend genie high which has the same vocalist as tricot but their sound is way more pop and funky. Some other bands that are in a way similar would be: Akaiko-en (vocal heavy), Mass of the fermenting dregs (more progressive), Elephant Gym (instrumental), kinokoteikoku (more traditional jp prog), the experimental nature of them could be very much influenced from Enon kawatani's other bands such as Genie High (like I mentioned), Gesu No kiwami otome, DADARAY, ichikoro but they're very different, so I could be off by a lot but worth a try
