I am here 10 years later, in 2024. I remember when this came out. It turned my attention to the East when it came to music. I was already into Japanese deejays and beat makers and some hip hop artists like Arata of Living Legends. This track really helped shape my musical senses. This era of music was so dope.

Oh man, you can't beat that footwork that starts at at 0:44, and then the groove just becomes too much and she cuts the rug with the sharpest of swords . She is shredding and grooving at the same time. Love it.

I THINK I FIGURED THIS OUT First bar is a 9/8(3+3+3) bar followed by another 9/8 bar of silence. Then it starts to switch between bars of 6/4(regular counting yay) and 9/8(3+3+3) bars. This happens four times. In the next measure vocals come in, and the pattern of 9/8(3+3+3) switching to 6/4 is repeated four times. This is where something weird happens-metric modulation occurs. The quarter note triplet from the 6/4 measure is now our new beat (this speeds up the tempo by a third) AND IT STARTS A SEVEN BEAT PHRASE! So now we are in a new tempo AND are now in 7/4. there are 12 7/4 bars in this new section before we jump back into the original tempo via a 9/8(3+3+3). then the usual 9/8 6/4 changeover happens again When they start runnin around it's in 11/4. Then a metric modulation happens again, same thing, the beat is now the quarter note triplet from the 6/4(although in this case it would be the 11/4 bar) And now we are in 6/8. and then it starts to switch back and forth between 6/8 to 6/4,and when that phrase is done, we are back to what was going on in the beginning with the whole switching from 9/8(3+3+3) into 6/4. AND THEN for the ending it's two bars of 9/8 followed by a phrase of 7 in the same tempo of the first metric modulation and then some more counting and the last note.

Musical madness at its best. If Tricot were even 1/1000th of a degree "looser" in terms how they play together, they couldn't pull this stuff off, but they're tight as a doggone drum.
