Thanks, too bad about the handle grip, that would be a deal breaker for me. But, I am starting to see narrower grips on even some expensive rods, especially the lighter weights (Scott, among others, wants to bias their 3 weights towards smaller hands by slimming the cork - bad idea). I guess those companies don’t understand how important handle comfort is, it makes a difference on how long you feel like fishing before you get a sore hand - over clutching is a problem that is being ignored too often. It is much easier for someone with a small hand to adjust to a larger diameter grip, than it is the other way around. Also, the narrower grip is the cause of why the rod feels heavier than it really is. I have the Lamson Center Axis and I like that rod (good medium action, with a standard 7” half wells grip that has good diameter), I ordered it configured with the next larger reel size because it balanced better, but I don’t think they make that rod any more.

I just wish these budget rods were available when I was a kid. I struggled with a 2x4 with guides for my first rod. Eventually I got the brown glass Fenwick of my dreams.

Hey Ben - I’ve watched no fewer than 40 of your videos and I’m still lost-in-the-sauce… can you recommend me a rod at the under $350 price point. I’d say I’m a novice, but not a beginner. Thanks Sir!
