Sika has an admirable attitude toward exploring crafts. She has an idea of what she wants to do, she explores her options, and she doesn't appear to let it discourage her when it doesn't work out how she wanted. Instead, Sika just keeps going and tries again, and that's awesome. Also, yeah, I've touched things in the oven with bare hands >.

So tip, dry the plants first. The heat of the resin curing cooks the plant material, that's why the color changed in the knife project. It's also very likely to rot in the resin over time. Because things need moisture more then air, to rot. I also really like the dome idea, but it's also another thing that would be better (for long term) to used dried or fake plants.

Jackie a trick you can do with UV resin is to coat the inside of the mold like you did with the hallow chocolate then put stuff inside. another thing is that stuff like moss traps a lot of air with it so its better to coat it with something to stop the air trying to escape through the resin.
@SaraAson3 жыл бұрын
Sika idea with the terrarium was good one thing to know when using flowers like that in resin is that if they're not dried completly (or otherwise preserved) beforehand long term they will eventually rot. Covered in resin you won't really be bothered by it and no mold can spread but it's god to remember. If you wanna try something with flowers again there are ways to dry them kinda fast (for drying flowers atleast) in an oven you can look up. Just don't use a microwave it can cause a fire!

The greenery in the terrarium will end up wilting, unfortunately. You need to completely dehydrate any foliage being put into an enclosure. You can put the contents in silica gel for approximately 3 days up to 1 week depending how big the items are to be dessicated. Just an fyi going forward, loves.

I love resin crafts. I just started using resin in the last year and a half, due to the pandemic and I've learned so much and I'm still learning. It's always very entertaining watching you two do your projects 😆. A part 2 is a definite must as I know you have learned from your mistakes.😊 So I have a few tips for you guys. #1 warming your resin a little can help to get rid of bubbles. #2 always use dried plant life. There are a few way to dry flowers etc. You can pick them and wait a couple of weeks to let them dry on their own, you can microwave them to dry them out. ( It takes about a minute or two depending on the type of flower) or use the oven. There is also a mixture you can buy (I believe it's silica) that will dry out plants in a few days. I learned all these techniques on KZbin. Sorry I don't remember all the names of the people I watched🤦🏾♀️ but there are so so many. I hope this helps. 😊 Love you guys❤️❤️

I looked up the silica sand & it was like $30. Then I remembered I still had a bag of crystal kitty litter from my bad decision to try using that as the only litter. It's silica too. Just a different kind. But I tried it out & got some nicely dried leaves. The only potential problem is that the crystals are kind of large. I'm thinking about using my under $8 food processor to grind them down. Or maybe buying a cheap coffee grinder. But considering that the cheap crystal litter such Mimi's is only about $5-6 a bag. Compared to $30+ for silica sand. It would be worth it even if I eventually killed the mini food processor or coffee grinder. Also maybe not use those for food ever again. I'm thinking I'll just buy a bouquet of mixed flowers to try drying nicely. Although now that I think about it I wonder if the simple unscented clay litter I went back to using would also dry flowers. Oh there's also a $20 drying flower press that goes in the microwave you can get too. Makes it so you have dried flowers to use in a short amount of time.

Re: the floating on Sika's project, my guess is that there's still a lot of air in her glass ball, and that's why it's floating -- the air makes it a lot less dense than the resin. It was fine when it was glued (resined) to the bark layer, which was more or less stuck to the bottom, but when she made the liquid resin go under the bark layer, that meant the bark layer was loose and free to float, with the light glass ball bouying it up through the liquid.
@ciomaria61373 жыл бұрын
Also, I think the glass dome is extra reflective because it is filled with air. It would have “disappeared” more if it was filled with resin (but that would have defeated the purpose of having the globe/dome in the first place), or if it was a dome made of the same resin that it is encased in. It would have still looked like an air bubble, but it would have blended in more (I think).
@birtemartens43073 жыл бұрын
Definitely! While the light doesn't refract at the border between the resin and the dome, it still refracts at the border between the dome and the air inside.

You can also use a pressure pot to get rid or bubbles in resin. I think they’re easier to find than vacuum chambers.
@geminidragon333 жыл бұрын
Also, pressure pots are less messy than vacuum chambers, though they take longer. I guess it depends on which way you wanna go... With a vacuum chamber, it takes less time to get the bubbles out, but if you have too much resin in the mold or container you put in the chamber, it'll overflow and cause a big ol' mess. The pressure pot squeezes the air bubbles so tiny you can't see them anymore with the naked eye, making your resin crystal clear, but you leave your projects in the pot, pressurized, for however long it takes the resin to cure. Rybonator here on KZbin mainly does resin dice, but his tutorials are awesome, and he shows the differences between using vacuum chambers and pressure pots, and also how to modify a paint spraying pot into a pressure pot.
@alyxwithay65163 жыл бұрын

You need to fully dry out the flowers before putting them in resin or else you'll get rotting. there are a few tutorials on how to keep the color when drying out flowers and such for resin art.

You guys really need to start wearing PPE in your resin episodes. You have a pretty big following now, at least address the fact that PPE should always be worn when working with resin :(

U just saved the day Jackie 😂😂😂😂

Remember guys, it's resin, a bowl or light bulb is NOT a suitable place for fish!
@Littlewings12113 жыл бұрын
It's genuinely depressing that so many people believe Betta fish (or any kind of fish for that matter) can thrive in tiny bowls and novelty tanks without any filtration. ☹️
@Luvcatz883 жыл бұрын
Omg on a show I watch where people thrift objects and reinvent them to sell there was one team where the men made a lamp post looking lamp and put live beta fishes in the dome 😭 i wanted to cry And another where a woman made a "coffee table" out of a bath tub full with water and goldfish and a glass pane over top
@lazyhomebody13563 жыл бұрын
@@Luvcatz88 A goldfish coffee table is a great idea, if it had hidey places and a bubbler. On Real Housewives of Beverly Hills one of them had 2 goldfish in a little, narrow bowl with no bubbler and nothing for them to hide behind :(
@porcupinepancakeart17653 жыл бұрын
I live near a man-made lake and someone decided to toss in goldfish years back. The goldfish are huge now. It's amazing to see what happens when you don't keep them confined to small fish bowls.
@psychotophatcat3 жыл бұрын
@@porcupinepancakeart1765 Goldfish like that are considered highly invasive and basically hardly are even the same fish anymore lol. I once watched a reptile rehabilitator (with a permit) go skim a bunch of released goldfish out of a lake that was swarming with them to use as food because the population grew so out of control.

I was making cupcakes a couple days ago and went to get the rising stuff to make it fluffy. So we have it in a bag next to the cornmeal and it’s the same company so I wasn’t thinking and accidentally put cornmeal in my cupcakes. Didn’t notice until my grandma pointed it out. I basically made cornbread cake 😂

I'm kind of concerned about your health.. You know, working with resin in non-ventilated (probably) room, being close to uncured resin without protection, and even TOUCHING uncured resin without gloves. That's really risky. Many people can start working with resin without knowing that it's really dangerous and seriously hurt themselves..

Good point

So true! Also its important to talk about safety with resin because Kids might see this and copy them.
@psychotophatcat3 жыл бұрын
She's addressed this before and said her craft room is specifically very well ventilated, that's one of the reasons she uses it for crafts. And she's said "don't do what I do," but in these newer videos she could stand a disclaimer because she hasn't mentioned anything about the dangers of resin in the past few years.
@octoberandreasbejan89313 жыл бұрын
I literally just commented something similar. Especially at the end squeezing "sticky" uncured resin.

Honestly I'm a little sick of asking people with platforms like this and a large enough following to actually influence people, to wear appropriate PPE. It's just plain irresponsible.

7:25 Oh my goodness Jackie, I think I have commented this before on another one of your videos but please *please* do not point the UV lights upwards making them hit your eyes! 😥 I am not exaggerating when saying that prolonged exposure to that can cause sight issues or even blindness! Please *please!* be careful! UV lights do not mix well with eyes, there's a reason why people use eye protection in the lab when using them to look at agarose gels or even using tanning beds. Again, please be careful!!! 😥😰

In the first one it floats because the flower bulb is just a huge air pocket so it gives the entire base a lower density than the resin around it
