Amitabh Bachchan is like an old fine wine!!!! He was literally the oxygen for the movie!!! I was literally waiting for his entry in the movie. It was a total paisa wasool movie... Only I wish they could have done little emotional attachment with the characters. There was kind of no time for character development, because I personally felt there was unrequired action sequence in the 1st part of the movie, maybe that's the reason that we couldn't feel the emotion connection with the characters. But yes, a big round of applause to the team even to think of a concept like this!!! Totally must watch movie in the theatres..

Everything talks about the good aspects so I will point some bad ones( remember the things I don't mention are good and the movie is overall great) SPOILER WARNING 1.Prabhas's character. Ok. This would be more like rant since I had like really high expectations but tbh they really missed the mark. Firstly, why do you have to add all the comedic gags especially with Prabhas if it's not working. Like sure make jokes but he is like that in almost every scene. I was enjoying every character but to be really honest, I did not root for Prabhas and enjoyed like a really few of his scenes. They also had the opportunity to make him 'Kaal Bhairav' (Lord Shiva's avatar) rather than making him Karna. It would have made so much sense. 2.Disha Pathani and her role in the movie. Seriously why was she in the movie. The movie could have reduced its length and talked about other characters and maybe focus more on the serious side or atleast give others screen time. Her character had literally no motive, no purpose but to drag the movie. 3. This one is not a cinematic problem but the theatre in which I was watching had such a bad audience. Like you should talk or scream in hype scenes but the people sitting behind were like talking and cracking jokes every second, even in the serious parts. You know what was the worst part about this. A BABY, with his parents was sitting next to me. And why the hell was everyone flashing the lights of their phones. They were not even recording man. 4. Last bad aspects imo. No one to root for. Sure like I enjoyed the movie and definitely enjoyed Amitaabh Bachchan sir and Kamal Haasan sir but I did not get emotionally connected with any character. Maybe because it was because of the editing. Overall I recommend this movie but dont expect like something really good with Prabhas's character. This movie has really elevated Indian cinema (mainly in sci-fi) to new heights. Also don't hate Prabhas for this. It's not like his acting was one of the worst in the movie or the Indian cinema. Once again, his character was a case of missed opportunity. Overall every actor was awesome especially the Big B, Amitabh Bachchan sir. He was insane in this movie. Also it's cinematography was great. I remember that one scene where they light up the Rangoli. As much as I remember, that shot was so fricking great. Also it's VFX was top notch. It was just in the first fight where you know he throws that evil bounty hunter that came back in the movie and I was like w why is he so slow. But the VFX in Shambala and the Complex were great. And the Bujji scenes too. The interval and the final fight were great too. Overall because of my criticisms, I would rate this an 8 or 7.5 out of 10. And please, 7 rating is not by any means bad. Sorry for the long paragraph and my English. 😅

A lot of ppl who know Mahabharatha but still missed this reference at the beginning of the movie - "Ashwatthama hathaha ... kunjaraha (whisper) ". This is a ploy played by Pandavas to kill Drona, the father of Ashwathama and the teacher of Arjuna. They name an elephant with his son's name and kill it on the battlefield (you can notice a dead elephant on battlefield when this phrase comes in the intro) and say "Ashwatthama is dead" for Dhronacharya to hear, and "kunjaraha (elephant)" slowly so that they can deceive him on the battlefield to think his son was dead (and technically not telling a lie since Ashwathama the elephant is actually dead). This makes it easier for them to kill Drona since he is distraught because he thinks his son is dead, and gets distracted in the battlefield. Many such underhanded tactics are played by both sides in Kurushketra war which is the reason why it is said that this war marks the beginning of Kali Yuga - the age where ppl start losing their moral compass, become selfish and less intelligent.

We went to a 3pm showing in IMAX, 6/26, north of Detroit MI USA. The film was breathtaking. It's rare that we get Indian films in IMAX so we grabbed the opportunity. We are English only speakers so can't say how good our subtitles were. The next showing at 7pm was nearly sold out. I wish we would have gone then but I believe that when the sequel to this film is release, I will be able to fulfill my dream of seeing a spectacular film with an enthusiastic Indian audience.

I also found the first half of the movie boring and choppily edited. I couldn't understand the point of Disha Patani in first half. The introduction scene of Bhairava was not slick and wasted too much time with unnecessary dialogues. It was also wayy too long than required. However the second half was the movie. I loved how the Hindu mythology was present with some nice twists. AB Sr. was the soul of the film. Every scene of his screamed PRESENCE. The opening sequence post the Mahabharata scene was really really good, especially with the animation and AB Sr. voice. Deepika Padukone did fine with what she was given. I wished that the emotional scenes had hit better. The CGI was good btw and I could ignore those minor mistakes. But it does look way better on the theatre screen than on mobile. Anyways, I hope that the next part is tighter with the writers and Nag Ashwin learning from their previous mistakes and make an even better movie. Just don't end up becoming like another Bhramastra, this story has so much potential.

My pov Appreciation for their efforts and hard work to bring such a vision on the screen, each and every character has a time space. It is treat to the eyes and those mahabharat sequences are ultimate. The climax was outstanding. And in my opinion the first half could have been improved That's all. And mainly amithabh bachan sir has done the best job. Deepika Padukone the main soul of a story, indeed she carried very well, mainly her screen presence, and also her emotions in this movie were so real and natural. Prabhas sir did amazing work, this movie will be the best work after the salaar beside back to back flops and maann what a powerful eyes he has shown in one of the scenes purely goosebumps. Lastly Kamal Hassen sir, what a legend at this age his conviction is commendable and his voice is 💥 that last climax he just nailed it 🔥. Over all the film has a soul and has a great vision with hopes and hence it is a KALKI CINEMATIC UNIVERSE, hence the story continues.....

The first thing I want to relay to N.Ashwin is that it's OURS! Thank You for the vision. Second Vyjayanthi productions and Dutt Family for giving it such a grand scale. Positives - the Shambala world, the vfx for action sequences, setting up such a beautiful part 2, obviously Ashvathama and Yaskin. Negatives - the complex wasn't really unfolded, mostly due to all the background that needed to be set up. The constant need for laughter is annoying after a point. And the biggest gripe, if Bhairva is revealed to be who he is, there was no need for the stretched out humor intro for Prabhas. Instead, would have like to see more of the Shambala world or even the complex. Agree to your point about the supporting characters they paled in projecting a dubious and unhinged loyalty and absolute chaos. Should have consulted Salim - Javed; Sambha is still remembered! But a highlight was the brief but very strong presence for the actor portraying Krishna, hope to find who that is. Music and BGM were a letdown. Where is Anirudh when you need him. Would have liked to see Anirudh or even Vishal-Shekhar take on the task. Especially Ashwatthama and Yaskin deserve personalized themes. Kalki 2898 AD: Movie Review Kalki is India’s first serious attempt on dystopian, utopian genre. Add our masala elements and some mythology and you get Kalki 2898 AD. AB has been glorified like never before, he sizzles every frame and a big thanks for him to dub in his own voice in Telugu. What an impact this was. Bollywood themselves would have had goosebumps and wondered what they hadnt done with AB and what they did with him till date wasn’t enough. Nag takes the credit for this colossal characterisation. Om Raut and Ayan Mukerji, time to go underground for few months. Technically, AB was a like a second hero. Pasupathy and Shobana get a very meaty role, good to see them on screen after a long time. Rajendra Prasad executes a neat role, Saswata Chatterjee as the main stand in villain delivers prepping and amping Supreme Yaskin, a different casting could have worked better. The Counsellor looked like Severus Snape 😁, clearly can be thought only by a movie buff. Several small characters did their part beautifully. The first half song was an aberration which could have been avoided. Disha’s character was unnecessary or could have been kept it under 3 mins like the other cameos, possibly she may come on in Part 2 but the song sequence alone was a sore point. Nag didn’t have to overdo this part. Brahmanandam gets limited screen time, Prabhas gives some comic relief at many places by himself. Was added to cater to his fanatic fans, was pretty decent. Sana’s BGM rocked. Couple of songs, the Bhairava anthem stood out. The Diljit song was more of a BGM and was possibly made for marketing purpose. Mahindra and J motors have pioneered and created a maverick invention in Buji. It’s actually an abbreviation which you will find out in the movie. The I stands for Intelligence. Nag’s national award winning previous film Mahanati, the heroine of the movie Keerthy Suresh has lent her voice for Buji which is actually a transformable robotic car, a mini robot on top of the vehicle talks to the hero and they have several comedic banters. It does evokes a laugh, will be better in Telugu version. It’s Nag’s homage to C-3PO and R2-D2 and several others. 5 cryptic takeaways to avoid spoilers: If you can find it, share it with me 😁. All were sub 3 minutes cameo. 1. Looks like the Telugu movie industry have decided their casting for Mahabharata already. Arjuna’s casting didn’t work for me mainly because of the star’s recent movies. It didn’t pack the punch it needed. 2. A pilot role as a mentor and saviour for the young Prabhas. Thank god, it was not Salman Khan. 3. Thankful, No blood bath scenes for this famous director. It was not a colorful scene. 4. I think this was his acting debut for this director. A chase scene with Prabhas but he was after Prabhas and not the level 5 bounty. 5. A current top actress who everyone loves. The Telugu film industry have given her solid movies in the last few years. She has acted with No 2 in a Telugu movie. Clue is the other epic. KH role was a cameo too, he was being prepped for a meatier role in part two. Prosthetics and VFX for his scenes were superb. BGM sizzled as well during his screen time. It’s an out and out Nag Ashwin show. The cinematic universe he has created is beyond anything that we have seen in Indian cinema. He has set the bar up pretty high. Incredible visuals, stunning cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic who has made his Indian debut with Kalki. Editing and other technical crew were good enough for this magnum opus. The weapon’s were imagined well, some good gizmo stuff. You cannot stop thinking of Star Wars, Dune, Mad Max and other movies of this genre that has been previously made but this is a first for us. If you are hell bent on Dune and other movies, please rewatch that and skip Kalki. VFX effort was the highlight of the movie. Nag’s vision was truly executed beautifully by the VFX team. Fight sequences and choreography was largely great, very minor blemishes in the battle scenes which will probably go unnoticed. Mass scenes for Prabhas were etched out in abundance. It was well made. An international stunts team and was quite evident in the final output. Deepika as the 5 Star bounty carrying the 10th Avatar delivers a strong performance. She is the high end package in the movie and looks smashing as usual. Aplomb performance. Looks stunning as usual too. The inverted pyramid Complex setup, labs and extracting embryos, space shuttles, junk vehicles, were well designed. De-aging was done for a short sequence, looked hurried up and budget friendly, am sure Part 2 has more of these and will be done well. Opening sequence, Interval block and climax scenes were shot aesthetically and was given the grandeur it required. Nag is being targeted for Plagiarism by media and some seriously sense less KZbinrs, copying visions from Hollywood movies. The Plagiarism on the VFX is something that needs to be sorted out, innocent till proven guilty. I see inspirations more than copying from other creators work in many scenes. One example and it’s not a spoiler as you would have seen it in the anthem song, there is a group of people worshipping a large Banyan tree and singing songs. Immediately the world is after Nag’s throat that this is lifted from Avatar. For god’s sake, Banyan tree is India’s national tree and singing songs is clearly an Indian thing. JC used this as an inspiration for Avatar. His heroine character name is Neytiri, next you will tell me it’s an American name. Can share a dozen things on Avatar alone on JC’s inspiration from India and its culture. Will refrain from it, guess not many know the difference between an inspiration and a copy. Another example, is the entrance portal to a place which is hidden from the world. Black Panther, Wakanda Forever has been referenced here by the so called smart cookies, hmm have you seen Harry Potter? heard of 9 3/4 platform, was Black Panther accused of plagiarising from Harry Potter? Can go on but will be spoilers, so watch and make your peace. Nag should be dedicated to make India’s two colossus epics for the next 20-30 years. An enjoyable movie watching experience. The movie was a clear clickbait. Too much overhyped and real torture throughout. No doubt action sequences between Prabhas and Amitabh were the best but there was so much which was misleading. 1. Lord Krishna's character required a better dubbed voice for the Hindi Dub Version. Never have I ever heard such a harsh voice for Lord Krishna. 2. Karna did not have his Kavach Kundal during the Kurukshetra War. 3. Arjun was not so arrogant as shown. 4. Deepika had just one face throughout the entire movie and yeah if she's bearing a God in her womb, there's no need to show such bold scenes of her. It was very very uncomfortable and cheap of the makers. 5. The end sequence of enemies entering the safe area gave an entire glimpse of Avengers Endgame. 6. Nothing had any impact except for Amitabh Bachchan's role. He owned the movie.

Just came back from the movie, and while some elements of the film felt like recycled sci fi and the initial comedic first half failed to get me hooked. But eventually the movie started taking itself seriously again and I was hooked. Major props to the set and VFX teams this is truly stunning work. That finale left me awestruck. Prabhas and ESPECIALLY Amitabh Bachnan KILLED it. What an achievement for Indian Cinema!

Nice review Brother!! Imo I loved the first half as well. Nagi was doing the world building in the first half unlike Salaar which is rushed it and got the audience confused a bit. I agree in Disha Patani's character been unutilized but I think it helped Prabhas' character to see the THING which he was dreaming of. I'm a Hyderabadi and I used to watch almost all of Amitabh Bachchan movies with my Dad and man I can honestly say after so many years I saw AB in action mode like never before.. LOVED IT!! Overall imo, 1st half world building, 2nd half epicness!! The best movie in Indian cinema history. No one can guess Prabhas' secret role in the movie. All the theories I have seen from many KZbinrs were all wrong lol!! Again Nice review Brother!! Keep rocking!!

First half was not so bad for me, because i went in with zero expectations(PTSD from adipurush) though a lot of unnecessary fights for building up prabhas character was shown, it also got us glimpses of kaashi and the complex. By the interval I was content with the fact that the VFX and dialogue (in Telugu) has pulled through. Then came the second half and oh my god I was blown away. In awe of nag Ashwin's talent because he has managed to pull this off marvelously! He deserves a lot of appreciation for not butchering our legends and stories and actually giving an output that we Indians can be proud of. Telugu film industry at its peak!

Being Telugu, I have loved Nagi since his first film which was in itself a breath of fresh air. I had high hopes from him with Mahanati. So all of it is 10x for Kalki, and he delivered and how! I loved watching the film and the experience of it all, with all the cheering, laughing and whistling made it a joyful experience. (Watched it in Hyderabad - so with all the Telugu audience, the vibe is immaculate) Dude, Prabhas has a lot of meat to actually perform and be an actor. It’s not just his stature or personality that’s been highlighted but the character Bhairava. So that’s a feast for fans. The last 30mins ❤ But, the drag was Disha’s character and scenes during that period. All of that could have been replaced and it wouldn’t make a HUGE difference. It slowed down the film.

As a non-Indian Florida American who has no knowledge of the Hindu Pantheon, I felt like I rediscovered water with this film. Ashwathamma is my favorite character of the entire film and I hope they keep him long into the Part 2 of the film. I am happy that they kept the Indian Pantheon references simple, because I knew going into the film there was going to be a mix of religious aspects. My first impression from the movie was Dune-clone Cyberpunk with Hindu Religion. I am happy to say it more looks like a Cyberpunk Post-Appocolyptic Hindu film with the rebirth of religious figures. The first half, I agree, it felt slow and a bit choppy. Especially the breif side tangent where Bhairava fantasizes about the Complex. There was also this weird cut in the film before the Interval period where Bhairava gets blacklisted from the Complex and goes back home to figure out what to do, but then jump cuts to a scene where he is back in the desert where he got blacklisted and begs for redemption and a second chance, as though the previous scene never happed. Weird…

Bud this was such a BAD movie. I can't believe that people are so convinced and hyped with mediocre content and plot. It's an amalgamation of transformers, star wars, mad max, avengers, nada nada with poorly written characters. Prabhas was cringe at best. The only positive was Amitabh and the integration of mythology bits. But that's not enough. My issue is that people have been hyping weak stories like this for far too long. Stop fooling yourself. The movie honestly could have been 2 hours shorter. A waste of money. And more importantly TIME. Pathetic
