This weekend I was running people through range qualification at our gun club. One guy just couldn't put it in paper at 50 feet consistently. I'm no instructor so I brought all my You Tube knowledge out! The tip from this video did it for him. I explained the finger position on the trigger and the next magazine was 10 out of 10 on target! Thank You!

Kirsten - EXCELLENT PRESENTATION !!! There are a LOT of folks trying to produce educational "videos" that do NOT come anywhere NEAR to the quality that you have achieved (sadly, even a Navy SEAL or two). Your use of clean backgrounds, cut shots to SHOW what you're talking about - rather than just "telling" what the subject matter is - is VERY refreshing, and admirable!!! WELL DONE !!!

I have been shooting pistols for 5+years. trigger finger placement was something I was aware of but did not fully understand. after kirstens 4 minute video I now get it. heading to the range for more practice. thank you for an excuse to use some old ammo i have had sitting around since tuesday. :) just subscribed so you converted one more gun lug.

I discovered what you are talking about through the process of dry firing. I found it that with poor trigger placement, a tremor would go through the rifle as the trigger broke. I found that I could eliminate that tremor by adjusting finger placement on the trigger and pulling straight back and in so doing saw a dramatic improvement in my groups. I pretty much wound up with what you are demonstrating and even made sketches in my shooting note book of the desired position of the finger on the trigger to remind myself.
@KirstenJoyWeiss9 жыл бұрын
+tearlach61 Awesome! I'm glad you've experienced this first hand. Also, it's a GREAT idea to have a shooting journal (I've filled a bunch throughout my career) and to make visuals to boot. Really ingrains training and discovery (especially if you're coaching yourself which was most of my career)

I shoot the most accurate by placing my trigger finger almost to the first joint, but not quite. I will slightly push my shots left, if I use the tip, or the middle of the pad. Experiment with your placement, for the best accuracy. The heavier the trigger pull weight, the more this will show itself. Especially with your "defense" handguns. Another thing that makes a big difference, is the distance from the back of the grip to where the trigger breaks. However, other things may be making you an inaccurate shooter, so make sure that you eliminate the basics first. For example, flinching will make you shoot low-left. I've became a MUCH better shooter, since I got rid of my flinch. The best way to cure your flinch, is by leaving an empty casing in one of the chambers, on a revolver. This will tell on you EVERY TIME, if you are flinching. Don't be too embarrassed, or hard on yourself tho, because most everybody has a slight flinch, even if they don't know it yet. I just make sure that I have a firm grip, then imagine that I'm dry firing. This technique will also automatically give you a good follow thru. Try it!
@fobbitoperator36207 жыл бұрын
Throughout my 28 years in the Army, & on the range, I've been instructed to use tip & crease trigger finger applications. I will note, & try this "between the tip & crease" method, & hope it improves my shot group & qualification scores, along with self defense capabilities! Thanx Ms Kristen!!!

Wow I've been doing it all wrong since I started shooting. I was one of those tip of the finger shooters and was wondering why most my shots seemed to go down and to the left! Thank you for the great explanation and showing us exactly where to put the trigger. I will doing this when I go to the range next!
@MiDaBu7 жыл бұрын
brievolz84 your fingertip placement doesn't have to be wrong especially for very low actuation force triggers plumb of your finger is ideal as it gets a better feel of your trigger. What you are experiencing can be solved by moving the trigger or building up the grip instead you wanna make sure that the last joint of your trigger finger is perpendicular to the barrel exactly at the point of the actuation and not at the beginning of your presage trigger travel {assuming you have a 2 point trigger) if you wanna get a lot more detail about this stuff I would recommend looking into for example the book Olympic shooting or something.

Great advice. I find that as the best placement too, but I don't always remember that at the range. One thing I did after watching this video was I took a Sharpie and drew a rectangle on my fingertip so that in the next day or two I will see that and remember. And hopefully when that washes off I will draw it on there again to drill it into my head.

This vid hits the spot! Since I'm using my AR15 for hunting reasons, the hint with a wider grip to improve the accuracy is more worth than it weighs in gold. I often don't have much time to react under hunting conditions so that there is no time to correct or change the grip to a better position ;) THX!

Great video Kirsten as always. I tend to pull my shots so they impact to the right. It doesn't matter if it's a hand gun or rifle, so it's not a site issue. I try to be cognizant of finger placement when pulling the trigger. I think that I place my pad of my finger on the trigger as you mentioned and I try to remember to pull straight back. Something I definitely need to work on. :) See you later on FB!

It's a skill that equalizes all gender,and race, i read that a elderly woman in her 80's was trying to find a weapon she would feel comfortable with and was accurate with, for home defense... she finally picked a AR -15 and is a good shot and likes to practice with it!..i think Americans should learn to shoot just for the fact that they have the ability to defend themselves in a life and death situation.. and save lives..
