Hi
In this weeks video we will take a closer look at an old drill called CRAB WALKING. It might be good for a bunch of things but what I found out was that it's actually a great carving drill. It might actually be the FIRST CARVING DRILL EVER. Invented waaaay before the carving ski.
May I point out that this is quite a difficult drill so if you cannot nail it straight away don't get bummed out and depressed. Life is hard.
Instructor today is Kari Koo. He is a great person and its been an honor to get acquainted. Koo is 72 years old and for that he needs a standing ovation. Teaching customers to ski year after year with total dedication is honorable. He started skiing at 43. So no excuses good folks, young or old, go out and go skiing!

Tom

Beautiful! that drill demonstrates and demands the hips doing the "right" thing during the transition..

The dolphin turn is difficult for me, don't really know why. What was the Von Grunigen Turn again? Cant remember! And could not find a quick reference on YT. And yes, thanks for watching :)

@@Triggerboy62 Harald called it weighted releases...Marcel Hirscher does it too..its when you are super late on a turn at the gate and rather than ski the new outside stance leg..you change edges on the inside legs and ski on tje outside edge.

Very nice video again, so is the point to increase the pinch just above the hip to increase lean thus balance. Keep them coming :)
@Triggerboy62
@Triggerboy62 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you really have to overdo the leaning in order to feel the pinch and the ski in the air creates a fake state of balance so that the leaning is possible. Or that's how I like to think of it. Thanks for watching :)

Looks like an easy version of white pass turn.
@Triggerboy62
@Triggerboy62 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Don't really know if this is an easy version of a white pass turn but I was thinking the same. That it resembles it quite a bit the way it was performed in this video. I am personally very fond of the WPT. It is very addictive. Once you get the hang of it, it sort of does all the work for you. You just stand there and enjoy. The way your weighted outside ski rolls over from its BigToeEdge to its LittleToeEdge is a nice feeling.

Can never understand the point of those single ski carving exercises, as they all change the body’s balance & hip position in a way you would never be in when skiing naturally.

Thanks for watching and your comment. The aim of every drill is to improve your skiing. However, I too wonder many times what a specific drill is for. However, I think this drill really addresses important issues in our body positions and how we balance over our outside ski and improves on our angulation. I think that the person making the demo skis fairly similar to how he does the drill. Dont you think so too?
