A surprising finish from Dave Smith and team, like a gift from beyond the grave. Beyond the other wonderful creations he released 3 updated synths. Really this is the first moog styled poly I’ve ever enjoyed. I’m an OB6 owner aswell, it would sit nice in the sound palate of digital and analogue synths I have. Pure genius of Dave Smith and team to tackle such a tricky topic of updating the backbone of ‘the game changers’ of the early 80’s. This move could have never been taken lightly. To update and yet keep the ‘vibe’ authentic is quite a feat. That man had the ability to bring the best out in people and it shows in this instrument. Not only a designer and engineer but a leader and inspiration for so many near and far. The world is a better place for one man’s vision and take on things

the LED lighting up to show the preset value (as shown at 5:04) is a fantastic feature that every synth should have IMO. this is a feature that I first saw on the original Korg Electribes, where there is a dedicated LED to "Original Value" and it is such a simple and effective solution.

I agree. This is a simple inclusion and one of my favorite things about Sequential synths. Other companies like Roland have adopted a "Shift + Knob" approach, but I'd rather there was just a default spot for it on the screen. It's extremely helpful when revisiting your own patches and even more helpful when trying to learn about factory presets.

Probably they just copied the P6/OB6 manual, made necessary changes and thought: “ Who knows? Never say never“. But the T6 has more knobs and buttons than his brothers; wonder if a module wouldn‘t be very cramped.

Your reviews are the best in the business, in my humble opinion. Started watching with the Squarp Pyramid Tutorial, for just under an hour you covered so much, and it got me pretty familiar with everything so quickly. A lot of people aren't fans of hardware sequencers, but I still use it to this day, with the option of a software setup, I mean spending thousands to get an MC-4, Pros: It's really interesting to program. Cons: It's really... interesting... to program... Off with the praise and tangents, it sounds like Dave can't really miss, even after his passing. I don't think there has been a period where I was using a setup that didn't include one of his synths. It's odd not to comment on function, but the build quality is immaculate, some people are reluctant about the pricing, but at least in my experience, you really get what you pay for, and then some. Sounds great, all of it is quality, nothing is cheap, or looked over. Which is common for a lot of reproduction synths, in fairness, you get what you pay for lol.

This was perhaps the best synth demo I’ve ever seen. You did a sufficient enough deep dive to satisfy professionals, while still keeping it accessible for newbie enthusiasts like me. I feel like I have a very good basic understanding of the instrument now, and the assortment of samples played at the end really demonstrated the diverse and beautiful array of sounds the Trigon-6 can produce.

I didn't realise how many more sonic features there are under the hood of this synthesiser, in comparison to other interesting T6 videos I've watched on YT. Your movement to each feature path made it very clear to understand. It's amazing how this instrument generates very powerful sounds from the core, emitting sound waves that have precise building blocks within the waveform, able to blast out of the T6. Far out.. what a powerful machine from DSI->Sequential. Imagine connecting two T6 desktop synths in a series, having the advantage of playing 7ths with both hands simultaneously. Furthermore, the possibilities would be endless. Thanks for giving a very detailed engineering lesson. I found this video very interesting : ]

5:02 Really good review! I don't know why they didn't allow users to have parameter values displayed on the 3 digit LED display. Maybe to have an option for that. Not everyone would want it. I saw in a video that someone did a mod for an original Prophet-5 to do exactly that with the 2 digit LED display. Just very useful.

A neglected parameter on the Memorymoog, also unfortunatley neglected on the Trigon 6 is variable keyboard tracking of oscillator 3 (rather than just on or off). In low frequency mode, and key track on, the oscillator frequency will double every octave. This is too fast to use as an LFO to modulate PW of oscillators 1 and 2 for a string sound. With a rotary dial, instead of an on-off switch, the pitch tracking could be adjusted to double the frequency every 4 octaves, making a better modulation source. The OB8 has a keytrack parameter in page 2 that doubles the frequency every 4 octaves. Makes for very lush PWM strings. Similar variable keytracking can be done on the Hydrasynth in the mod matrix.

At first I felt it depended on the type of music you were recording. If it was for example a synth wave or 80's style track in general then no. Because it didn't matter then, ha,ha. However if it was a deep house track or pop style track that needed some synth support then sometimes yes. Overtime though I learned it more deeply and now don't experience that much. It just has a strong character to it which wants to be noticed, if it had a 24db filter on it then it would be easier perhaps to make adjustments. Thanks for watching!@@goodnightosaka

I have to say, your in-depth reviews are not only superbly detailed, but they also go a long way in actually explaining how instruments work. With this in mind, would you consider doing 'retro' reviews, if you manage to get your hands on older equipment. The Yamaha AN1x for example, or even the newer (but still over a decade old now) Studiologic Sledge, or the overlooked Korg Kingkorg as further examples?

I'm trying to save up, and get a Prophet 5 or 10 right now. I'm on the fence about getting the key versions. I have multiple controllers and sequencers, but the internet says to spend the extra 1k for the keys. I feel like being able to own more for less seems obvious, but I'm not entirely sure what to go for. I guess Sequential will eventually have a Trigon module. I plan on getting as many versions as I can. I love the Sequential sound. I have an Iridium keys, and it's beyond capable, but I'm not sure if it replaces the true Sequential sound. I love the sound of the 5-10. The 6 sounds amazing, but the 10 is kind of magical. Hopefully Sequential carries the torch for Dave, and continues the work that he started.

Thanks! Wow that question is a whole video... I didn't compare them side by side - Moog One is way more flexible overall in terms of modulation, oscillators and filters, it's huge in comparison, has more voices and is multitimbral, and I think can get mostly to similar aggressive tones - though oddly it doesn't have a distortion unit (analog or digital) and doesn't have a chaotic feedback option. My hope had been Sequential would have developed a polyphonic Pro-3, and when I heard the name Trigon I was hoping what they had done, but this is more like a 3 oscillator Pro-6. It’s hard to see any reason to add this when I have a Polybrute (Analog) and a Summit (Hybrid). I still feel the Pro-3 is best synth to come out of the of the reborn DSI/Sequential and it will always stay in my setup, but despite the great (as always) demo by Loopop a Trigon will not be joining or replacing anything in my studio. My pros: 1. 3 OSCs per voice, ladder filter (also 2-pole). 2. Excellent panel layout; IMO the most beautiful of the Sequential trio. 3. Well-known functionality; P6/OB6 owners won‘t need a manual at all. My cons: 4. Expennnnnnnnnnnsive! 5. Despite nearly a Memorymoog on paper, it sounds somewhat harsher, even without distortion/feedback, which the late Dave Smith seemed to have developed a passion for. But I primarily want lush, smooth pads. Listened to Matt Johnson‘s GS Music E7 demo yesterday; that‘s what I expect a ladder filter synth to sound! 6. Only 4 octaves and the same mediocre FX as its brothers.

Anyone else sick of fixed knobs on modern synths? I would love to see more analog synths with light up encoders like on the Hydrasynth or Nord Lead 3. I hate switching presets and not knowing what value each knob is set to. It makes sense if its a synth with no presets like the Grandmother.

It's cool to have a 3 osc poly. Is the LFO analog? I find it annoying how limited the modulation is on really expensive Sequential synths. Sure you can give up an oscillator maybe you don't want to. Yes, always having a quantized filter and makes it seem too digitally controlled rather than real analogue. is annoying too especially with limited modulation. Level compensation for the resonance would be great. What's up with all of the calculator screens too? It's the vintage sound people want not the vintage screens.

This synth line from sequential is aimed at performers/keyboardist and purist (ob6,prophet6,trigon6) who prefer simpler modulations features, a simple screen that can be viewed in any lightning condition and can spend the higher price tag. Since its still dave smith design there are some unique and unexpected features but if you look for heavy modulation capabilities the other synths from sequantials (Prophet12/X/Take5/Rev2 and the glorious pro3) will serve you better.

incredible how the modulation options are so limited on such an expensive synth like this. we're getting used to extensive modulation matrixes from the like of the (way cheaper) polybrute but yeah; one LFO; one polymod with very little control and that's it. I'm sure it sounds great and it's a design choice and all but still wouldn't want to spend so much for so little control. The prophet has at least a noise source you can add to the modulation. more agravating is the quantization of the filter; it's like the basics of what you expect from a substractive synth to be able to play the filter.
@Dartagnan65
@Dartagnan65 Жыл бұрын
I'm disappointed in the limitations as well, the weak modulation control, the single dedicated LFO. - The velocity buttons and kbd Tracking button should be dials... It's tone sounds interesting but I would not consider buying this synth. I love my Pro3 and will still hope for a multi-Pro3 though (that I probably can't afford).

Maybe soon? From Page 8 "Using Poly Chain If you have two Trigon-6 synthesizers you can link them together with MIDI to increase the total available polyphony to 12 voices. We call this poly chaining. If you have a Trigon-6 keyboard and a Trigon-6 module, you will most likely use the keyboard as the master and the module as the slave."

I've owned 2 prophets. P08 and rev2. Both were poorly built even though they sounded amazing and had issues with corrosion. The voices always have some variation. I'm not sure if this is dodgy QC or a "vintage" vibe 🤷‍♂️ Too expensive for me. And after my experience I'm loathe to get another prophet. Although I may at long last bite the bullet and get the ob6. So far, after watching a few demos, I haven't heard anything that the REV2 can't produce. In fact, it sounds much more like a Sequential synth than a Moog synth. It seems to fail to capture that sound. And it's ironic since it's clearly what they were after with this project. Thanks for the demo and for sharing it.

Sync forces the cycle of osc 2 to restart every time osc 1 starts a new cycle. Because they're not at the same frequency, the cool sound is osc 2 yelling and making a big fuss about it :)

A discrete circuit is build from discrete components, ie; transistors, resistors, capacitors etc. A circuit with IC’s is therefore not a discrete circuit.
@PWMaarten
@PWMaarten Жыл бұрын
@ghost mall This is incorrect. An IC (Integrated Circuit) can never be a component in a discrete circuit because an IC is build from discrete components. These are in fact mutualy esclusive. The Juno's don't all share the same architecture. For instance, the 106 has a single IC for the VCF and VCA (Roland's proprietary A1QH800170), but the 60 has an OTA (Operational Transconductance Amplifier) based filter build around the IR3109 (Also a Roland proprietary IC) and an OTA based VCA build around the BA662 (again, Roland proprietary). In both cases there are other (active) components around the IC's to make the complete circuit. So, None of these synths are discrete circuits and none of the Juno's have everything that makes up a voice on one IC.

I don't know what too tell you. You can look up the definition of integrated circuits and/or discrete circuits. A DSP, CPU or CEM3394 (synth on a chip) ar integrated circuits but so is an OpAmp.
