Thank you from an old man! I needed to figure out the dimensions of an angled grab bar for my house. I remember struggling in high school with trig and had essentially given up on learning. Sometimes, I think it was simply a combination of poor teaching and myself being easily overwhelmed and then giving up, etc. Interestingly, I enjoyed math when I understood it. I greatly appreciate your simple and straight forward explanations. I didn't feel overwhelmed and I was able to calculate the leg lengths I needed for my angled grab bar. Wonderful, wonderful and wonderful! Keep up the good work! Wish you were there when I was a kid. Thanks!

I was doing everything to three significant figures, so there were different numbers of decimal points for each answer depending on how many digits there were before the decimal point. I have a video to explain rounding here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2WxlX2Yl7F9eLs

@sciencemadesimple89247 ай бұрын
Try pressing the S D button, which will transform your answers between numbers and surds. It is also worth checking your calculator is in degrees (there's a little D at the top) and not radians (a little R at the top).

Because the angle is 55, you divide 15 by "cos15" - using the calculator function for cos, as I demonstrate at 6:39

When do we use inverse? Is it just for TAN?
@sciencemadesimple89246 ай бұрын
No, each of sin, cos and tan have their own inverses (usually the second function above the main sin, cos, tan button). You use the inverse when you have two sides and are trying to find an angle.

How come for the second angle we weren’t given the opp side
@sciencemadesimple892410 ай бұрын
Because you only need one angle, one side, and to find the length of the lettered side (in this case, a). If you wanted to find the opposite, you could use Pythagoras' theorem after finding a.
