Trigonometry Pt. 4 - Double Triangle Trig

This video will take the basics we've learned about sin, cos, and tan, and apply them to a slightly more complicated picture. The pictures in these problems contain multiple triangles. The reason I call them "Double Triangle" problems is because they all boil down to working with a pair of triangles in order to solve the problem.

Thanks so much- glad you found it helpful. It's always tough to decide on pacing in a video, because if it goes too slow people will turn it off and try a different one. A lot of people also won't watch a video if it's 30 minutes long, so I try to keep them under 15 to 20. To do that, I've chosen a relatively quick pace because I know you can pause it anytime you want. That's the reason I speed up the animation when I'm solving the equations. I figure you can pause if you need to while you work it out, and then just press play when you're ready. Thanks for watching and commenting 😄

Can you do the same topic with isosceles triangle and bottom length?

Hey- thanks for watching 😄 I'm not entirely sure what you mean about Isosceles triangles. I can't think of any specific relationship in Isosceles triangles regarding the bottom (base?) length. The only thing I can think of is maybe Isosceles right triangles? Those are special, and I have an entire video on those and 30-60-90 triangles. I'm not sure what you're asking. There's a minimum amount of information needed to calculate missing parts of a triangle, and there are multiple different methods available depending on the information that has been provided. If you are looking at a problem that's different from the ones in this video you may want to check out some of my other trig videos on Sin, Cos, Tan, as well as Law of Sines. There's also the law of Cosines, but I don't think I have a video on that one yet.

Why only tan??

That's a good question. I didn't intentionally make them all Tan problems, but in my experience it's the way these problems tend to pop up. When you are doing "real world problems" with trig, you most often know the vertical and horizontal parts of the triangle, as opposed to the hypotenuse because they are easier to measure. No reason you couldn't set the same type of problem up with a Sin or Cos though.
