For the water pool maybe add a small lily plant with small pads or some Dwarf water lettuce, that way there's more ways to get out of the water if needed.

Yeah, knowledge about them is slim, but they also have another scientific name with a tiny bit of available information: "Possible food items for Duliticola hoiseni include fungi and slime molds, as well as the juices secreted by rotting plant matter. Another theory posits that the trilobite beetle feeds on microorganisms living within the rotten wood juice. This theory is supported by the fact that several microorganisms were found in plentiful numbers in both the juices of the wood and the intestinal tract of several beetle specimens." So, don't clean anything in the Junglearium and you might get lucky.

They are amazing creatures! Needs intrepid entymologists ( or keen respectful enthusiast with macro lense) to follow them diligently in their natural habitat until it is determined and identified what they are eating. Otherwise they are at great risk of disappearing through human collection, since they dont yet survive long in captivity.

Neotenous is the word you were looking for when referring to a species that retains juvenile characteristics as an adult. Also your comment about not knowing what they eat cot me curious, so I went looking and it seems like the closest thing to a consensus I could find was that they seem to drink the juices that ooze from rotted wood and they have been observed eating slime molds.

Female beetles remaining in their larval form are known as Larviform females. There's a few other species who do the same such as Glow worms.

Maybe they're frugivorous? Their spines remind me of rambutan and lychee fruit, which I think grow in their native range. They'd look just like a rotten spot on one of those. And they climb up when exploring, so they might be adapted to identify a fruit tree they can live under. Just a hunch.

Amazing! I hope they find what they need in your junglearium :D They look so cool, and I'm very curous about what they could be eating. Maybe add some gecko-food (like Pangea) here and there to give them a source for fruit? Also, that mystery plant, I have it as well (no clue what it is tho xD) and it grows quite tall so it's better in background/midground. You can easily propagate it by just pinching off parts of it and replanting them. Side-note, I actually managed to breed and keep alive a species of tree snails that were previously also not captive-bred and they are thriving for me :D (Lignus solimanus)

I wonder if they are like some other insects/flies that don’t actually eat at all after they mature. They only reproduce and then die. Maybe that’s why nobody knows what they eat. Super cool critters though!!!

They've been observed in the wild feeding on decomposing wood, fungi, and slime mold, so they definitely eat! They live in pristine rainforests, though, and there seems to be something in their wild food source that they just aren't getting in captivity. Which is too bad, cuz they're borderline endangered in the wild and it would be amazing for conservation if they could be kept and bred in captivity

@@shaunacorrigan9372 yeah hopefully they can figure out what they are missing in captivity and start breeding them. It could also be temp or humidity that makes them not eat in captivity too. Maybe nobody has been able to match the conditions they thrive in and the stress of not being kept properly is causing it.

Those are literally the cutest little creatures I've ever seen. I love them! Not sure if you're done planting yet, but there are lots of types of prayer plant that would love it in there. And they're super cute cause they close up their leaves at night. Check out Maranta red or lemon lime, or Calathea roseopicta (can be fussy but would be fine in the Junglearium), Calathea ornata is beautiful too. I think they're all beautiful. I have 9 different species. They're troptical and like warmth, humidity, and do well with artificial lighting.

Sadly no one has ever figured out how to breed these in captivity or even get them to survive for very long at all, even if they seem to try to eat. They get poached from the wild only to die quickly, and it's likely they have a hyper sensitive gut biome that doesn't survive transportation.

VERY nice shots from the 15 min mark. Those are very interesting creatures. I hope we see more of them and hope you figure out a good food source for them. Taste test timelapse? Take one and put it in a big enclosure. Attach as many potential food sources as you can find all around the sides of the enclosure but slight off the ground. See which one she puts the most effort into checking out and eating. That was she is not just walking around like normal and just walking over what is in front of her. Maybe she will go to the same offering over and over and there ya go.. Food source.

Neoteny is the retention of juvenile features in adulthood, and sexual dimorphism is where the sexes have differences that exceed normal variation. Polymorphism is where the species has distinct morphs within each sex, like ants that have standard, submajor, major, and supermajor morphs [along with queens and males].
