Open circuit trimix diving to 400 feet (120 meters) is a logistically complex and costly endeavor. So does it make sense? In this video we're exploring some of the key concepts that are essential for understanding the complexity of these deep trimix dives.

Very interesting video. Technical diving seems expensive in terms of gas and equipment, plus a high cost for any mistakes made. Looking forward to getting my recreational diving certification soon but probably not looking to do technical diving. Still interesting to see the challenges and level of planning you guys do.

I’ve been considering Helitrox just for reducing the narcosis for OC cave diving. I wrapped up advanced nitrox and deco procedures in a rough environment recently with fairly cold water and bad visibility from 7’ on the bottom down to under a foot on our 30-10’ deco stops. Different environments and task loading. Definitely makes the Helitrox worth it for me, but even those prices I think at some point for cave and deep I’ll wind up on a sidewinder or choptima unit. great video.

Really interesting video. I am recreational diver . Personally for me going too deep I won’t see the marine life but saying that going deeper you will find deeper wrecks to dive.where I am limited to 40m . Also it’s the cost of training need to buy new gear and the expense of the gases that puts me off .But that’s my opinion. Crazy amount of deco stops you had to make . Also very interesting why the use /depth when to change gases and why you had too . Thanks really appreciate that video 👍

Are you considering ICD on your ascent schedule? Huge gas swings on the first switch. Plus it's a long way from 120 M to that first gas switch. Would you consider 10/70 as your bottom gas? add then a 15/55 for travel then a 25/35 followed by 50/15 and O2. This increases the helium bill, but stills the ICD . This is why divers choose Rebreathers :)
@DiveSAGA
@DiveSAGA 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the practical information. That's always appreciated! I rarely put helium in the deco mixes because the benefit is mostly theoretical but the cost is very real. However, bringing a 15/55 or similar along the way is a good idea for sure!
@scubaclient355
@scubaclient355 4 ай бұрын
ICD isn't a problem since it's a bounce dive, and no helium in the suit. Your gas choice is overkill. Especially the O2. Did you run it through Multi Deco software?

END of 42m in the bottom phase is quite a bit worse than what most technical diving organisations recommend (30m). It's a real risk to be narked when diving deep.

This is my dilemma right now, Tec 50 qualified with 100 plus tec dives total. Need to decide if I go onto Tec 65 and beyond OC or switch to CCR and basically having to start over with training etc to get back to the deeper depths. 🤔
@DiveSAGA
@DiveSAGA 6 ай бұрын
Yes I fully understand. OC Trimix diving is wildly interesting but beyond 70-80m / 230ft it really makes more sense to go CCR
@stevecrane1125
@stevecrane1125 Ай бұрын
IMHO it just depends on a few things. How young are you? I just turned 62 so I made the decision to stay OC. As you said, you have to start over. Do you have the time to put the hours on the CCR unit necessary to do the Trimix training. I am 2.5 hours away from my training quarry and when I ran the numbers I figured it would take at least one season of diving every week just to get the hours on the unit to start the deep training.If I was in my 30's-40's I would for sure go CCR.I did a 5 day charter in Lake Superior and I brought 2 sets of doubles, a T-Bottle of Helium and assorted bottles of deco gas. My buds who were CCR carried their gas on the boat in a small plastic milk crate. Something to think about.

I’m early 40s so should have a few more years in me yet. 😂 I’m in the UK so sites are limited for 50m+ id mainly be traveling with it to get anything deep. Off to bikini later this year which will be OC but often in the Red Sea and thinking of doing truk in a couple of year.

Hello Nick - great movie, I see you used regular diving boat for this adventure, do you think with correct preparation it was possible to use regular yacht to attach explosives on Nord Stream pipeline in september 2022? cheers 👋
@DiveSAGA
@DiveSAGA 11 ай бұрын
I'm not a military expert but while the blown up section of the pipeline lies at depths that divers could reach, I think the preparation and precision required for such an operation, probably require a military platform with adequate surface support. Something that would be difficult to organize from a regular yacht. But who knows 🤷‍♂️

Guys I don't get it. 4:58 - You just say it is really bad idea to breath that mix at the surface 11:09 - However, MultiDeco screenshot told us you are start using Trimix 11/60 from surface to all descent and ascent before first deco stop (57m)
@DiveSAGA
@DiveSAGA 8 ай бұрын
On Multideco you'll see a red bar on the first line. That's to indicate that that gas is hypoxic at the start. It's then at your discretion to choose what alternative gas to use for the first few meters.

@@DiveSAGA i Realy like your video! But i need to say that the collection of gases you used are not good for your health when you consider isobaric counter diffusion. The Increase of N2 is way to high... please consider to remove the gas specs out of your video. There are people who will likey follow that specs.

@addohm , completely agree with Bail out. However, a dive to 100m or more will always use OC or BO CCR for Bailout. I was referring to performing the entire dive on OC. Which is wasteful and less efficient than diving those depths on CCR.

I wonder at the profile with something easy to mix like 10/50 and a ccr. I'll have look. It was 10min at 120m. And for others saying the same thing, for this, why dive OC?

OC for me is the best gear.
@mfgdprcs
@mfgdprcs 24 күн бұрын
It was actually alittle over 3 minutes at 120m , the remaing 6minutes plus was the descent. So for this sort of dive you could get away with using 10/50 on ccr, but for anything longer say you are diving a wreck in cold darker waters for 25 minutes bottom time then you would want more Helium. You have to coinsider the equivalent air density of the bottom gas you are breathing, especially more so on rebreather with the risk of build up of CO2 , along with narcosis. You need your head feeling and functioning like it is when sat in your living room when diving a rebreather at these depths.Also the O2 is a little high at max depth if you need to dil flush.

Great video. I am also certified as TDI Advanced Trimix. Never did any warm water deep dives. Looks like a blast. Last deep dive I did was at Isle Royale in Lake Superior. We dove the Kamloops which is at 270ft. Water temp in July was 36 degrees top to bottom. I did have a question. When you switch to 100% at 6 meters do you do the whole 33 minute stop there. My Shearwater goes kinda crazy if I stay on O2 that long at 20 ft. Usually I move up 10 ft for the last 18 minutes to keep my PPO below 1.6 Again great video. Might give this place a try this year.
@DiveSAGA
@DiveSAGA Ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you! Yes the water temp here definitely helps 😁 We manually insert an airbreak on the 100%, I just didn't include it in the video to help simplify it a bit. I usually also set my computer with last stop at 3 and then we see if the conditions facilitate a shallower last stop (which they usually do).
