Do the heels really grow faster in cases like this? Why is that? I always thought that the heels just don't wear as much because most of the weight is on the toe.

@@anniehope8651 the heels don’t grow faster, the wall at the toe just gets more compressed from the incorrect angle and unequal distribution of weight.

Is it standard to make the heels lower than the toe in a laminitic horse? Wouldn't that put more pressure on the lamina wall and coffin bone?

Every laminitic case is different. The only standard I go by is their comfort level. In this case the horse was more comfortable every time I lowered his heels and his X-rays also confirmed that was necessary. This little guy is perfectly sound again.
