Have you thought about using an old toothbrush to remove the smaller roots? I have been doing it for some time now mostly to remove the old soil from new plants but it also removed the easily removeable roots as you mentioned. Also it would have been great if you would have included a video how you are unpotting a plant prior to keeping it dry for a week.

I haven't tried a toothbrush before, that can be a good idea. I'll try it later, Thank you for your recommendation. About the unpotting, it's actually quite easy. I just dig the plant, shake as much as the soil off. Then put it at a shady spot to avoid direct sunlight.

Thank you so much for the informative video! I was wondering, once you've repotted the succulent in the new soil do you water immediately since it's had a week to heal already after being trimmed?

Yes you can, just make sure don't overwater it. We want to make the soil to be moist, so that the plant will feel the humidity & try to grow root. There's another way I would recommend is that you can spray some water on the soil and mix them evenly, and then you repot the plant in this moist soil.

Hi! If your plant is newly potted, then you need to put it in a shady spot until it's rooted. Then move it to brighter place gradually. (If the weather is too hot or the temperature is too high, you'll need to wait until the weather cools a little bit) If the plant is already rooted, then it should be quite easy. Move it to a bright (not direct sunlight) place for 3days, if it looks good then you can give it direct sunlight to see how they reacts. As long as there's no sunburn, they should be fine. Overall, it's better to do it during spring & autumn.

hii may i ask how to allow a succulent to grow a strong root system? i recently bought an echeveria laui that has little to no roots and im not sure on what to do

Hi! In my experience, Laui is not a succulent that grows roots easily. Usually I like to wait till I see the succulents are growing small roots before potting them into the soil. But that's not the case for laui… I‘ve waited one laui for six months and it didn't grow roots at all. So I would recommend you pot it in the moist soil mix(but not too wet), and give it water every week to encourage root growth. Before it root, make sure you don't over water it, because the new root system need some time before they can absorb water from the soil.
