Un train! MGV pour Musique Grande Vitesse. Cette pièce est pour moi une révélation à double titres: 1- Découverte de ce compositeur contemporain, dont je ne connaissais ni le nom, ni l'oeuvre de manière consciente. J'évoque l'élément conscience, car tout cinéphile que je puis être, jamais Michael Nyman ne m'avait jamais accroché l'oreille auparavant. Puis mercredi soir, alors que j'attendais mon repas au restaurant, je mets mes écouteurs sur la tête, j'ouvre la radio de ICI Musique section classique, et je vois une nouvelle catégorie d'écoute apparaître "tripatif" (sans doute un clin d'oeil à Jacques Languirand), je clique et MGV débute.... et pawff! C'est la révélation! Depuis je l'écoute au moins une fois par jour après souper, si ce n'est davantage. 2- Découverte à titre de musicien et tubiste. La place prépondérante accordé à mon instrument dans cette pièce est majeure, et fondatrice je dirais. Je suis totalement fasciné par le développement des thèmes, de l'emploie des divers instruments et des rythmes. Nyman vient de se gagner un inconditionnel de la musique baroque.

I heard about Michael Nyman from watching Peter Greenaway movies. Everything I've heard by him (whether movie score or what) has been amazing. this is one of my favorite pieces though.

I fell in love with The eye of an optical theory song. Because of Man on wire documentary, many many years ago. But for some reason i've never explored the composer further and now i suddenly stumbled upon this beautiful creation. 7 minutes in and i have to turn it off to go to work! Ah! But i will be back for the rest!!! :D

Does anyone else think the first piece has a feel of techno/house music? It's the way it builds over the constant rhythm. The first time I heard it I thought it was an orchestral version of something by Laurent Garnier or someone like that
