Trinidad All Stars " Curry Tabanca" arranged by Leon "Smooth" Edwards

By the mid 1980's Leon "Smooth" Edwards had established himself as one of the best steelband arrangers in the world, with several Panorama wins and places in his belt
Here he adds a "chutney" flavor to his arrangement of Mighty Trini's "Curry Tabanca" in this outstanding performance by Trinidad All Stars at Panorama Finals 1987.

One of my favourites as a child.Shown on TTT right after Sesame Street. Brings back memories.

@psychologistpannist you need a little more than a run and a shrill to win panorama. Phase II delivered on all fronts that year. But this is one of my favorite Allstars arrangements though.

@depannist to relegate this masterpiece to a 'run and a shrill' is extremely insulting. would never insult his work in that manner. The 'run and shrill' is more accurately an escalating simulation of eastern classical music ('run') followed by a perfect marriage of pan and tassa with the pans playing uncharacteristic and very technically difficult tabla phrasing ('shrilll'). The end result is the screams you hear from the North Stand. Hats off to the Smoothman and All Stars!
