I still think a line should still be built along the east-west corridor. It's so congested, we already have a BRT in the form of the PBR. The building of interchanges along the CRH would alleviate some congestion but having an integrated multimodal system of maxi, bus, rail would definitely help. A grade separated bypass around Port of Spain would help to.

That will be great for the country to re introduce a railway on the island again this will be good for the economy will create a lot of jobs. New housing developments can be built along the railway especialy at every station. Each train should have no more than 10 carriages depending on the amount of people traveling and would be great if could be a 24hr around the clock transport and this always depends on the amount of people traveling at a given time.

I see people praising the former govt for this initiative. Are Trinis aware of their history? People seem to forget that Trinidad had a rail system many years ago that Eric Williams got rid off and then decades later, they decide to bring it back - there's even a video titled 'last train to San Fernando' on youtube that documents the last passenger train ride to San Fernando from POS in 1965. Is bringing back a system that was removed long ago progression or regression? Had the rail system not been removed decades ago but had been improved over the years, then that would have great. Right now, our transit system has grown reliant on a very strict routine in and out of POS using our current means of transport. I can't agree with the time and resources it would have taken to bring back the rail system (not to mention the amount of thiefing and corruption that would have likely been involved).

even build a tube tunnel to let the trains go under water and reach Tobago with a car,bus ,truck toll bridge to cross,they should invest in about 50 wind turbines off the east coast from North East to South east and solar energy panels,and that fossil fuel it takes to power the country export it to foreign countries that will bring billions of dollars to the economy and nobody will be short of power

I think the original railway alignment should be restored. The distances between between the cities and towns on the island are too short to justify the construction of this high-speed alignment. What I would do is restore the entirety of the original right-of-ways in the form of fully double-tracked, fully-electricfied, and fully grade-seperated lines from the Port of Spain to Sangre Grande, Rio Claro, and San Fernando, with a new branch line to Piacro International Airport. There would also be freight yards and sidings to serve local businesses and industries.
@deedee8043

That would mean all the people living around train line will have to be relocated and the roads will have to be dug up to fix the tracks there will be no more passing through some back roads driving because that is where the tracks were . I understand what you are saying though

When considering matters of public policy, one must ask...who benefits if some policy or service is not implemented? Once you get that answer then you can see the bigger picture? So ask yourselves: who supports both political parties? Who benefits from billions of dollars in new car sales and service? Who then continues to get support for their political parties to keep us living in squalor and incompetence? So there you have it no rapid rail or anything else that affects the financial power of the elites.

Again, this is what gets me vex. EVERYTHING mentioned in that video can be applied to the bus service for a cheaper cost and more efficient service! 1. This video shows the rapid rail system covering Grande to POS and Sando to POS. What about Toco, Manzanilla, Biche, Brasil, Talparo, Princes Town, Rio Claro, Mayaro, ...? Flood the country with buses and ALL these routes will be covered! 2. They are willing to invest in several train stations along the train route, why not create a city gate in each major city? Buses, maxis, taxis, mall services and parking in one area in each city. This will be a smaller cost than a train station and much less money spent on train lines and powering those lines. 3. They claim these trains will be properly maintained yet they can't maintain the buses?! How hard is it to stock parts and keep the buses in good condition?! There aren't that man different buses you need to stock parts for! I'm sure maintaing buses is MUCH cheaper than maintaining a train AND the train lines! Just keep in mind when a train stalls 50ft up in the air no taxis coming to pick up people! 4. Trains will leave stations every 4 mins?! Why can't buses do that? Don't tell me traffic. If you flood the country with enough buses (and I'm sure it'll cost the same or less than the cost of the number of trains needed - and you haven't factored in the train tracks yet) and enforce no parking in the cities, then much less people will make use of cars, the roads will be much clearer and buses can run on time! It takes almost 39 mins to get from sando to POS on a clear day anyway! 5. I love the ticketing system. It looks like a swipe card. Again, this can be implemented with buses! The technology is here to buy a card, top up online, call and cancel a stolen card and swipe your card in any bus. (Use fixed and hand held readers as backup.) So Why not do it for buses? 6. In case of an emergency and evacuation is needed, how does the train service go off route to facilitate a quick evacuation of an area? Buses can help out! This also applies to a major event occuring like an earthquake or hurricane. If the track is damaged, how long will it take to repair and what is the backup plan? If buses are implemented roads can be quickly cleared and repaired and traffic diverted to another route so the service never stops! PLEASE say NO to the train system. Let's push government for a better bus service!

I am not afraid of trains. I am afraid of the effect on the economy! 1. Trains are very high maintenance and are expensive to maintain. That is why they are better suited to large countries where they can compete with airplanes and provide a cheaper alternative to long distance travel. Aside from the cost, look around T&T, how many projects are properly maintained? This is something you can't afford to let maintenance lapse. A single train derailing can be a very tragic event! 2. I am thinking of the poor man in areas not close to train tracks. How does that benefit him? Also, how many trains will be running and how late? What is done about security on trains? In the U.S. there are reports of fights, theft and rapes occurring on trains. With our escalating crime rate will you really feel safe using it? If that money is invested in buses we will cover 99.9% of the island. Seeing this (and with other initiatives implemented ) many more people will make use of the buses all hours of the day. Further, in the event of an emergency (as happened recently in POS) buses can be mobilized to quickly evacuate an area.

Patrick Browne I'm sorry, but ppl who talking about bus, sound like ass to me. Speaking of experience I have sat in traffic in a bus as well, so tell me how putting out more buses is solving a problem. If the RR is created and tolls enforced on parts of the hwy the reduction of cars on the roadways and more commuters taking the RR will be greater.Yes TnT, in other countries ppl pay tolls on their highways. Ppl saying No to the RR would be the first ones to line up and use it, this would help bring TnT to the 21st century, enough already why would u want to flood the roadways with buses and taxis to cause MORE traffic, that make any sense??
@pbrowne0
@pbrowne0 9 жыл бұрын
venezolanatrini 1. Flood the country with buses. 2. Build a city gate in each major area - Valencia, Chaguanas, San Fernando, Rio Claro, Mayaro,Pt. Fortin. 3. Establish routes ALL across the country. 4. Make it easy to buy tickets. Use a card system. Use ttconnect to buy tickets and help people find routes and times. Allow salary deductions, etc. (Up to this point your points of traffic existing are still valid. Here comes the change.) 5. Enforce no parking laws on the city streets. 6. Enact legislation and provide the facilities for Ticketing officers to walk around cities, take pictures and/or videos of traffic offenses and write tickets based on that. (CCTV may also be used.) 7. Remove the subsidy from ALL gas and diesel sales. This should clear up the streets to allow buses to flow freely. Further, it keeps us from draining our limited fuel resources and sell more instead of paying the population to use more! 99% of T&T will be covered by buses as opposed to 50% that will be covered by trains? Plus, Sunday's Express has an article on the cost for a train system - US$10 billion. The improved bus system wouldn't cost TT$1 billion to implement! It has a faster startup time and provides more jobs. Revenue from this and ticketing will more than cover the cost within 5 years. Does it still not make sense?

The cost of this project would be sky high, trinidad can afford it but it will never break even. A more realistic approach would be to up grade the traffic system eliminate junctions with over passes and it'll take the same 39mins point to point by car. The remaining money invest in blue chip stocks and with the returns if a bus get a flat tire you can replace the bus not the tire and still save billions.
