Why are the brushes used in between the song
@daveodart5 жыл бұрын
Twister Dragon it is an overture encompassing a number of styles which each require different tones and textures to suit the music. It is also a good way of testing the adaptability of player taking the exam at this level I guess 😊

It's called brushing
@daveodart5 жыл бұрын
@@clarajeyaraj6397 I have not heard it called that before but I guess it describes what needs to be done!

What is that other thing you use to play in between of the song

Unnikrishnan NN the brushes? Instead of sticks

Great playing! I am sitting Grade 8 in June and am finding the footwork challenging. What is the foot technique you are using for the Batacuda/Samba section? Is it toe slide, or is it toe-heel-toe?
@daveodart6 жыл бұрын
Ajit Rasiah more of a toe slide I guess...

Dave any tips on the brush switch? Not really confident with that now
@daveodart7 жыл бұрын
Tristan Seow yes have two pairs of sticks as when you place the first pair down quickly they rarely stay in place, get rid of the brushes quick and pick up 2nd pair of sticks!

how long does it take you to learn these pieces??
@daveodart9 жыл бұрын
Difficult to answer that question as I spend a lot of time teaching the sections/techniques/styles etc to literally hundreds of students but never put together the performance as a whole myself, at least that was until I decided to record every piece for You Tube. I would finish my working day and give myself about 45 mins to prep. a piece before recording on my iPhone and uploading. I left out any fancy editing or correcting mistakes as I felt this was a more realistic approach and nobody's perfect yeh?! Dave

Dave, do you have any tips on improvisation?
@daveodart7 жыл бұрын
Tristan Seow just the obvious things really like playing along to records, studying techniques and rudiments that facilitate ideas on the kit. Taking a few lessons from players that inspire you ( I travel 400 miles for my lessons)! Benny Greb posted a lesson on improvisation which is an excerpt from his d.v.d and really hits the spot in terms of an approach, it's well worth watching and buy the dvds they really are top notch 😊
@tristanseow29707 жыл бұрын
daveodart Thanks! I was just looking out for any tips since my drum exam is this week and I'll be picking improvisation
@daveodart7 жыл бұрын
Tristan Seow oh I see! Well I don't advise my students to take the improv. test tbh as i think it is harder to meet the assessment criteria. Has a teacher prepared you for the improvisation test? I'll try and do a vid on this as several people have asked 😊
