Great video! I was also stationed in Baumholder in the late 60's. So much more peaceful looking. We didn't have MacDonald 's or the security check point to get in but we did have a small stand that sold excellent brats and fries, and just around the corner was a machine that sold wine by the bottle! Many happy memories and good times. Something you might want to check out is the small park down by the lake and the old city gate on top of the hill by the cemetery. Maybe you could take us along on your next trip to Idar-Oberstein. Thanks for a wonderful time down memory lane.

Brings back so many memories. I lived in Baumholder when I was only a few years old, and my mom and I would walk through town a lot. My favorite memory is when we stop by the old town hall and listen to the clock chime the hour

Thanks for this video! I was stationed in Baumholder in the late 60's and early 70's with the 285th M.P. Company and your video tour brought back some fond memories but wow, so much has changed. :) We lived a few klicks away from Baumholder in Reichenbach and have searched for videos from there but I guess the town is too small for many G.I.s now. Thanks again for posting this, I really appreciate it!

Baumholder Smith housing story Every night at about 0200 and around 1400 pm in the afternoon. Me and my wife would hear children running and laughing really loudly in the abandoned studio apartment on the 5th floor right above us. We called the MP's and they stated, that those units were sealed off, chained and locked for almost 15yrs. We lived in smith for 3 yrs and moved to a private home in the surrounding area later on. Did some research on Baumholder and a lot of women and children died there due to allied bombing runs. Baumholder in the early 1900's was never successfully bombed due to the clouds concealing it as a natural cover. The 3rd Reich understood that strategically. So the allies would bomb all around Baumholder hoping to neutralize it and would literally kill thousands of babies, women, children a few German infantry etc... Just sharing

That's insane! I have heard stories of military housing being haunted, but I never thought them to be true!

The Baumholder paranormal stories are true. My ex wife and I lived in 8016 1F (third floor) and we heard footsteps and what sounded like furniture being moved across the floor. We went up there one night to see what was up there and it was completely empty. Our neighbors heard the same things and they lived in the middle section, separated by a stairwell.

When I was there the gate @ 19:39 did not exist. You could drive right in without any bother. Sometimes the 8th ID MPs would put up a temporary checkpoint further down this road by the Shoppette and Sight and Sound.
