Welcome to another trip report. On April 4th, I flew from Islip to Sacramento. I decided to zig-zag across the east coast so I could film some trip reports. I previously flew a Southwest Airlines 737 from Islip to Ft. Lauderdale, and Silver Airways from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West.
Anyways, this flight was on a Delta Airlines 737-700. Delta mainly uses these aircraft for their ATL to vacation destination flights. Key West’s runway isn’t long enough to handle a 737-800 or A320, thus why the smaller plane is suitable for these routes. The cabin was the same as their other 737 800s. The -900s have the newer interior.
Hope you enjoy!
Airline: Delta Airlines
Aircraft: Boeing 737-732 (N304DQ)
Seat: 2D (First Class)
Flight Number: DL2900
Route: EYW to ATL
Flight Time: 1 hour, 45 minutes

I checked the price for flights to Key West from Atlanta. Its super duper expensive. In Malaysia, air travel is fairly cheap. 1h 50mins flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching is less than 100$ even though at some seasons it could be more expensive

American Airlines (AAL), Delta (DAL) and United (UAL), three of the larger US airlines with the jets, said that they have not discovered any problems in the planes that have been inspected so far. They all said none of their planes have more than the 30,000 flights that required immediate inspections.

They were the same in economy. Delta had not upgraded these 737-700s in a long time, and they have retired them and basically replaced them with A220s anyway. Some 737-800s have the same setup, but they’re getting slowly retrofitted with new seats.

ecoRfan No it didn’t. Stop being an armchair pilot.
@ecoRfan
@ecoRfan 6 жыл бұрын
Liftoff 13:11 End of runway 13:15 No more than 4 seconds with a climb. Would be shorter if it didn't have to climb and rather accelerated flat down the runway. Satellite imagery shows that the usable runway ends where taxiways end. This isn't armchair piloting, it's using eyes and time to measure that this was a close call.
@miniena7774
@miniena7774 6 жыл бұрын
ecoRfan But it wasn’t, as you hadn’t a clue when the aircraft had achieved a positive rate. Why? Because A.) You weren’t on the flight. B.) You’re not a pilot. C.) You wouldn’t have realized the speed of rotation. An aircraft low off the ground differs from one that is about to have a “close call,” especially seeing as software ensures this nonsense you speak of seldom (if at all) occurs.

"Key West’s runway isn’t long enough to handle a 737-800 or A320..." Well, maybe not an early-production 737-800, but now the -800 comes with a "Short Field Performance" (SFP) kit as standard. In Brazil, Gol Airlines operates 737-800 SFPs at Santos Dumont domestic airport (SDU) in Rio de Janeiro, whose runway is even shorter than in EYW (and has similar climate conditions). Not sure if the 737 MAX 8 has the SFP kit, but it probably does, as SFP opened up a large market for Boeing in airlines that need to fly to airports with a high demand but a short runway. As for the A320, maybe it wouldn't be feasible (at least not with a good safety margin), but A319s (of which Delta has plenty) also operate routinely at SDU, so it's safe to assume that they could operate at EYW as well.
@QFSAviation
@QFSAviation 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you are actually correct. But the problem is no US airlines have operated the SFP. All I know is only GOL has down in Brazil. It isn’t very efficient for US airlines as they operate their aircraft to many airports, not one in specific. The SFP isn’t as fuel efficient as let’s say like the Next Gen 737s.
@goytabr
@goytabr 6 жыл бұрын
I've checked it and you're right - SFP is only standard equipment in the 737-900ER, and as it is the largest 737NG, I don't know if the "shorter fields" it can operate on are as short as with the 737-800. So, 737-800s operating in the U.S. are not necessarily SFP, though I doubt that there is any impact in fuel consumption, as modifications are mainly in flaps and brakes, which only affect landings and takeoffs. Over 90% of Gol's fleet are 737-800 SFPs, and Gol operates them even where SFP is not needed, as between large international airports with long runways, or on relatively long routes that require heavier and longer takeoff runs (example: São Paulo-Punta Cana, which is one of the world's longest 737 routes). Gol wouldn't do that if they were uneconomical. And one small correction: "Gol" is not an acronym and it's read as written (not "G.O.L."), so no need to write it in all caps. It's an actual word in (Brazilian) Portuguese, and a borrowing from English "goal": it means a scoring strike in soccer (as well as the net the ball should strike), so it's a great marketing name in a soccer-crazed country like Brazil.
