I was flying with Pan Am Boeing 707..from FRA to JFK in the 70s. Pan Am was a great airline, representing the United States. So sad it is gone.

@@TortingerSooo true. My dad and I flew on a Pan Am 747 to the Holy Land in 1985. The 747 we flew on on the way there looked like it was very well taken care of. Actual linens and silverware were used. For a kid of only 9 years old it made a great impression on me. The 747 we flew on to go back home to JFK was well worn. I just remember it being a very dirty heavy used plane. I think it was Clipper Ocean Herald. Pan Am was such an iconic airline that it was sad when they failed.

Agreed. I used the 747 with B.A. for some years flying premium economy then upgraded to Business. Always a comfortable 11.5 hour flight. However I wouldn’t be using them now even with the 747 as they’ve hiked the price and I get a better deal with another airline.

I heartily agree… the 747 is a Wonderfull aircraft. I remember being very disappointed when the 707 kind of became obsolete and now, unfortunately it’s the 747 I hate to see it happen.

Can't agree more with you--as an Australian I've flown the Kangaroo route back and forth from Sydney to London on British Airways, commencing on Classic 747-236's. I was so happy in the early COVID days (maybe just before) to see BA repaint one of its 747-436 RB-211 fleet in a vintage livery--only to learn shortly after that their entire fleet was 'retired'... QANTAS was even worse--we had six of the only 747-438ER aircraft ever ordered for passenger use, all of them barely 16 years of age, and all now out of passenger service, mostly sitting in the desert awaiting their ruin, only because they have four engines (like the A380) instead of two engines like the ETOPS A350 or B787.

Best to fly on a 53 year validated airplane (rather than a twin) along with ISO level accredited in-house, dedicated mechanics--especially if saving only money is the issue.

Nice video! Even though the aircraft is relatively new, there's something so nostalgic about the 747. All my best memories of flying when I was a kid was on the 747-400 across the Atlantic to the US and to Asia, and was lucky enough to sit upstairs. Really miss this plane.

5:50 Take off RWY 24R If I understand it correctly. RWY 24R is 2721m (8926ft). B747 8i requires a little over 3000m (at sea level) of RWY for take off.

what a smooth touchdown. At 22:09 you can see how long it takes for the spoilers to go from starting to full extension because they don't fully extend until the weight is completely resting on the landing gear.

Your take off from LAX flew over The Queen Mary. I spent a night on her a few years ago. I might sleep for two or three hours, but I love flying and have been doing it all my life since early 1950's. My dad always worked with the airlines (American Airlines then BOAC-British Airways. They changed names while he was working with them). I miss the earlier days of flying, mostly DC-6 and Boeing 707's, when they served breakfast, lunch and dinner, warm meals. Your dinner looked good but breakfast, awful. I have always preferred 4 engine jets. 747-8 is a great airplane. I'm already subscribed. I enjoy your videos. Thank You and Best Regards.

I have a similar situation. My father worked for American Airlines from the early 1950’s through early 1988. When I was very young, I took a number of trips on DC-7’s and Lockheed Electra‘s. I also remember when I was very young flying on the earliest 707’s. I remember back then when they were first introduced, some travelers would wait one or two days, or even longer, until they could be booked to fly on a 707. There was a sense a sense of elegance to flying in those days, even in coach.

This is a superb flight report. But if I can be honest, there are too many comments on screen. Some of them are distracting (for instance, I don’t see necessary to specify « pushback and engine start »). Your videos and image quality are so good, it’d be even better to have less of these distractions 😉 The 747-8 seems to be such a lovely airplane. The Las Vegas, sunset and sunrise views are amazing. Oh how much I’d love to fly on a 747 in 2022…

I have been on a 747 in my very first flight as a kid and have seen them takeoff and land many times. The most elegant looking plane ever. Plus the landings were always butter smooth. The 747 touched down on a huge cushion of air beneath it, and that made the landing on my flight butter soft.

I usually fly Lufthansa from LAX to Zurich (via Frankfurt) to visit my family. My experience is a little different from yours as I am grateful to have the wherewithal to be able to fly in Senator First Class. It’s a wonderful service and I can usually manage a good 6.5-7 hours of sleep albeit in a lie flat bed. Coming home, I fly Swiss nonstop 😉👍🏻

Fantastic filming, the shots over Vegas and Grand Canyon were exceptional. Like the announcement from the crew that passengers were flying on the longest aircraft (beating my 2nd favourite aircraft if all time A340 600 by a mere 3') but great to see at least one airline resuming 747 operations, along with the 340 and 380 Lufthansa still have the confidence in the types. The passenger cabin looked very fresh and the food service looked good perhaps a hot breakfast would of been nice but a great report .

I am always glad to have a new trip report on your channel. I really don't know, if I prefer the B747 or the A380. I like bothe airplanes very much. I am looking forward for the flight to Las Vegas. I love the US landscape and that's why it is great that you show it. I would probably put an alarm too. I like the sunrise very much. You said that you will definetely fly on the A380 and maybe also on the A340 from Lh? But I think the A380 is better.

that sunrise though.. it’s magical really, i really need to experience that atleast once in my life 😓😓 I used to watch your channel a lot before covid to help me cope with planes i’d be going on because i’d be so afraid, now i’m back again 😭 i recently visited budapest and manchester, both with ryanair, definitely a natural reaction to be scared on their flights lolll and i’m visiting turkey with turkish airlines in september!! binge watching ur videos, i cant wait and i wish to travel as much as you when i’m older 😩 Anyways, this plane looks amazing, i wouldn’t be able to survive a 10 hour flight though it must be so uncomfortable but it’s so large yet sleek looking.. and LA airport looks so pretty too 🥲🥲 One more thing, why doesn’t the plane have them little parts of the wing that go up like ryanair? is it to help it glide more easily because it’s such a large aircraft?

Airbus planes are my absolute favorite. Much more comfortable than Boeing. I've flown on the A380 five times, flew on the 747 one time and even though the 747 is a beautiful airplane I always prefer Airbus over Boeing so A380 is still a better plane in my opinion. If I had to fly the 747 instead of the A380 I wouldn't be at all mad about it though.
