Trip to Conwy with RSPB Liverpool Group || Wanderscapes ||

The RSPB Liverpool group was founded in 1972 and it is one of the longest established groups in the country. RSPB Liverpool conducts a wide variety of field trips. As a part of the regular Dates with Nature walk, the group visited Llanfairfechan on Saturday 19th March. This high tide visit to one of the most interesting sea watching points was led by group leader Chris Tynan.
Around 30 people joined this event, including team Wanderscapes. We bring you the sights and sounds from the day where we saw birds such as divers, grebes, waders and wildfowl.
After spending a fruitful morning at Llanfairfechan and the nearby reserves, we headed to RSPB Conwy to view its varied habitats and birds. Other than the regular birds such as buzzards, swans, ducks, robin and wagtails, we saw Garganey, a rare bird in these parts.
Chris was the best group leader we could have asked for. Very knowledgeable and helpful, he filled us with enthusiasm throughout the day. Thanks to Chris's amazing spotting skills, we saw a couple of lifers such as Eiders. He also made sure everyone in the group got a chance to see the birds and had his spotting scope focused on any special finds. He also gave us pointers on how to identify birds and what features to look for while identifying similar looking birds.
Of course, there were several other expert birders in the group and they all helped us see the birds that our untrained eyes could have missed otherwise. Some of them were good at identifying the birds by their songs/sounds and we had great fun listening to some of the stories they shared.
All in all, it was a great trip. The weather too stayed pleasant most of the time, except for some windy condition at times.
