Triple 7 FFG vs FFFG using ELD X

In this video I choose to compare FFG to FFFG. Looking in velocity and accuracy. I decided to use the Hornady ELD-X 340gr projectile for this test. With season so close I wanted to use my most accurate projectile as its most likely the one that I will be using this upcoming season. So lets dig into it and see what we get.

Most modern muzzle loader bullets need 1,500 FPS minimum to perform. Ideal is over 1,800 FPS for 300 grain bullets

That's interesting. Makes sense though. I shot Federal Bore LOK into gel and the 100gr load didn't expand and the 150gr worked beautifully. I planned to make it into a video but the recording didn't turn out. I plan to correct the video issues and start showing this very thing. But I haven't heard about the 1500fps or the 1800 fps for 300gn. But you are a link for the info or just tribal knowledge from experience? Either way thanks for the information. Great video! Was this test done with 209 breech plug or pellet style. With t7 ffg I got better groups with pellet style, but I'm not sure why.

Crap I forgot to change them out. It was the pellet plug. Guess I get to do a follow up video. Use the 80gn charge and ELD-X and see what the velocity and accuracy looks like. Thanks for that.

Great video I like these tests. How about the pyrodex loose? While it’s a lot dirtier it can be cleaned out in the field without the crud ring.

3 f is a little cleaner and a bit hotter than the 2 f

The 3F is hotter for sure. That was proven by the velocities. Every average was higher for each charge with the 3F. Make sense being a smaller powder, less empty space in the charge.

Honestly I didn't notice much difference in the crud rings. But to be fair I wasn't looking that hard. It would have had to been a big difference.

Your weight was off new t7 weighs heavier than old t7

I wasn't aware that it changed. When did that happen? What is the new conversion? Guess the real question is, Was it long enough now that I wouldn't have one jug of one and one of the other? If the new stuff is heavier then I would assume the pressure would less compared to the old. Definitely something to look out for.

@@suburbanhunt3653 I wasn't either till I went to weight out some from an old measurement and it was short in the volumetric measure so I dumped it and filled the measure up to 100 just lose fill no taps or nothing crazy weighted out 95.6 gr in weight tried some old t7 and it weight 78gr I know the newer is a little cleaner using the blackhorn plug
