Turning this into an on-screen power struggle between the Rock and Trips as authority figures using Roman vs Cody as a proxy fight makes the angle feel bigger, and company-wide. The Bloodline is taking over the company and it's up to the babyfaces to stop that from happening. Cody isn't just fighting to "finish his story", he's also fighting to save the WWE from the Bloodline now. That is a good way of weaving the shoot into the work. They only have to get the ending right this time. Surely they will... right?
