How fun to watch you work with Belle and the babies! Ariel is soooo smart. She can already count to four! She picked up her back left leg anticipating that one was the last one you were going to pick up. Also, I've been meaning to tell you that I've always loved your choices in the music to go along with your videos. They are all so perfectly choreographed! Thank you for all you do for horses and horselovers everywhere.

They are all doing so well with their training and building up the trust. Belle is a great mamma and Bagheera a lovely aunt who helped Ezzy feel secure whilst mum had her solo training session. Ariel's progress truly amazes me that she has come this far in such a short period of time to feel secure with you handling and grooming her. Both fillies are smart and beautiful and can't wait to see how they will be in 3 years time. Bagheera is the best helping to keep the girls calm and happy. You know your horses the most and what will work, getting advice off your vet and doing what feels right for the weaning process with Ezzy.💜💜💜💜

It’s such a pleasure to see you work with Belle, Ezzy and Ariel. Belle is a good listener. I m sure you will get her into great shape once Ezzy is weaned. I don’t think there will be a big problem in weaning Ezzy. Follow your instincts, Shae. You will know when the timing is right. Belle will give you some indications regarding weaning too. Well the Fillies look great and so do the adult mares. And Koa looks like he has fun playing with Ezzy too. Everyone is healthy and happy. Yay! ❤️🐴🐴🐎🐎❤️

Oh Shae dear, I could hear the emotion in your voice as you spoke about your mission. . . and understandable for sure. So much heart, soul and time given to these precious soul's, Part of yourself goes with them when you do have to send them to thier forever home's. You must make that very hard choice for the sake of other needy horse's out there waiting for a chance. . . Just thoughts, Belle and Ezzy have become icons of Free Spirit. We all think of them when we go to your channel. That is NOT to imply you should never part with them, but that they are much beloved and a strong attachment when viewers go to your site. Regarding weaning, your decisions have always been very good and wise about all of the wellbeing of your horse's. 6 to 8 months seems right. I would imagine Belle will show signs when she has had enough too. By the way, even out of condition, she's so beautiful and riveting to watch. It will be very gratifying to see her transition to a riding mare; it will be a whole new experience for her. Really looking forward to that too. Time goes on, things change. Wisdom is making those decisions that are for the best for everything if that's possible. So far, in my humble perspective, you and Kyle are doing phenomenal. Simple as it sounds, our world is SO hungry for things that are good, pure, clean, happy and wholesome this is why your channel is growing so quickly. It's a great blessing to your viewer's. One of the oasise's in a desert of woe and trouble. God Bless you both!

I grew up here in the UK my father kept shires , Clydesdales Irish Draughts and Percherons he always insisted that the heavy horses had their goals on them for at least 6month he preferred a year he said that nursing from their mothers helped them build bone so the bigger the foal the longer they nursed as long as their mother was ok

That's so complicated about the weaning, that humans have to make the choice. I remember having a cat with kittens and all these websites were talking about weaning the kittens and I thought why? Nature takes care of that and it did. The kittens just drank less and less, just for comfort really. But one kitten just took weeks longer to take to solids so she drank the longest. Then at 15 weeks mothercat didn't feel maternal anymore and the kittens were not traumatized, already ate well and just turned to me for emotional mothering. They suckled of eachother maybe a few times but non of that suckling kittens on wool and plastic stuff you see with kittens weaned too early. I'm very glad I didn't have to do anything but make sure the kittens always had food.

After hsving many horses, some i have rescued, because nobody else wanted to save them from the Butchers. But, noe, due to getting a bit too old to look after them as well as, i have been luckily enough to enjoy helping these so precious of darling animals , now they have all gone to good homes. So, watching Bell, Esme and Ariel is like heaven to me, thank you. I, similar to you have spent hundreds, maybe thousands of hours, with our darling ponies and horses, and, although i ache in most of my body and, my hands are shot, it, was all worth it, every second. So bless you for putting this programme on, it'sike now, i can watch you, in my warm flat, and, not getting muddy, catching colds from mucking out many horses, and sweating, taking off my winter jacket and, then getting cold again, but, i would not have wished for a second to be anywhere else. I believe, true Horse caring people, even if you have not got a pony or horse if your own, are never happier when down the Yard, mucking out ,grooming, and, riding out , but, not on todays roads. I live in Wales, but having move from so busy English diabolically busy Roads, u still would never ride out in my own. Anyway, love your horsemanship you pretty horsey lady, you have made a much older horsey Pony lady very happy to watch your profound love of horses, and, what is almost the best thing, teaching young and late arrivals to Horsemanshio, the correct way to treat baby horses up to older horses. Thank you. PS i adore Appolooser horses, they are usually, in the right hands, very calm.careful rides, but, can quicken up when you want, without getting too hot,to Bolt. When Iived in England, i rescued a 6th Filly from an Auction, where the meat men buy as many as possible, i named her Running Spirit , and, after i was able to find who her breeder was i was able to get her Registered to show etc. At three years old , she was looking good enough to Show, and also get used to all the Horse's and Horse boxes traffic etc. This was The American Appoloosa Spotted day, so we had an American Judge who knew Spirits father when she Judged at The Royal Windsor Horse Show, and aksi Rode and Judged him. He came Third, and would have cine higher, but, although he was a very well Behaved Stallion, he did a tiny bit of losing concentration, and calling out to the beautiful Lady Mares in the Next ring. Spirit did win her small class and came 5th in the Championship, againsr fabulous fully grown Stallions and Mares, and, she behaved berself, bless her sweet self.

I totally agree with your approach to weaning your girl. She's a big foal and I suspect she does need some of the added calcium from that milk to support her bone growth, but again not too much because she could affect her joints from that nutrient dense milk. that 6-7 month range makes sense and a gradual weaning would be more natural. Belle is beautiful and she needs her break time too from having foals and get her in shape and do some shows with her. Your approach to horse-womanship is soooo refreshing and so natural...Love watching you work with your herd!

Horses are different like people. A lady I knew weaned at 3 months to keep from having to extra feed the mares m The babies suffered from lack of mom attention. One of my mares sneak nursed for over 22 months. The mare needed the baby attention I think because she had lost the baby prior. My preference is 8 months unless the babies wean themselves earlier(which happened once)

I agree with your 6-8 month more relaxed type weaning. But you know, yes mare’s milk is nutrient dense, but the foal is developing her brain, mostly in this first year, and brains use very large amounts of calories/energy within the total. Essie’s body is growing fast, but that’s her breed, as well. I think you are a woman with good sense, intentions and intuitions. Use them and you’ll be fine! Essie is doing well with Belle stepping away, because she’s never had a bad experience. She trusts you and Mom- that’s great! When she goes to the herd pasture with Mom and is taught herd manners, she’ll be well on her way! Happy times! oxoxox ❤️

Love watching you and these 3 gorgeous horses. Belle is such a sweet & protective Momma. Ariel was the perfect friend & new family member. Ezzie has no hurry in weaning, she is a beautiful large filly, The nutrients in Belles milk will help her stay healthy. They all have exercise , love and the most wonderful gift she has given back to you Shay. The surprise filly from an auction mare who as you said was used for only babies. It is watching you train all 3 together, they can encourage and teach each other. Zero drama is wonderful. Belle just needed alittle me time alone & pampering as she deserves it. Ezzy & Ariel are great & will love watching them both grow & learn. Thank you & hubby Kyle and your mission.

Belle looks like she will be a smooth ride once she is trained! Ezzy's lip curl with the dewormer was the cutest and funniest expression I've seen yet 😂 Gosh Ezzy sure loves you ❤

The other difference to tame and wild horse weening is that wild horse mares don't get high nutrient rich foods all throughout their pregnancy and nursing. So their foals need the milk as long as they can get. Where as tame mares are given (when cared for right) nutrient rich food which gets given to the foals. Also the foals are given good nutrients in their feed too.

Belle and Ezzie trust you so much that I believe the weaning process will be smooth, as they are so calm and confident and roll with the changes. I just received my lipsticks and lipgloss 💄 and the colors look beautiful in person. I find myself wearing more pink and mauve clothing and rocking the lipstick every day.❤

My Rocky baby was 6 months when we started & you’re right ~~ had to do special hoof trimming & put him on low protein diet to slow down his growth. His front knees (actually more like our wrists ~~ 5 bones) they were growing at different rates so we had to slow his growth way down. They grew in normal once we slowed his growth & he’s sound & perfect now. Typical gorgeous Rocky Mountain boy

Belle has a beautiful trot! I'm sure once you get her muscled up correctly, her canter will improve. I also totally agree with your nutritional analysis. Belle is putting out milkshakes, not milk! 😂 Ezzy is a chunky monkey. She's looking more and more like Belle. Are her eyes still blue?

I love how Ariel lifted fhe back leg for you before you even got all the way there. Normally im not a fan of my horse anticipating and then acting upon that based off the assumption i want that action.....this is a time i love it

Thank you for explaining so much about the weaning for us. I had never considered the nutritional differences of a domestic foal vs a wild one that's running much more every day. I was only thinking about the emotional development. I know you are doing a ton of research to make the most informed decision you can! Essy is so confident and isn't anxious/clingy so I am optimistic that it will go well.

From watching your videos, I think when ever you decide, or however you decide to wean Ezzy it will be your decision and your way. You have done such a beautiful job with several of your horses. I wouldn’t worry about what anyone else thinks. You know what’s best financially for you. From what I’ve seen you won’t sell any of your horses to just anyone no matter what. You put so much time and effort into your horses you’ll know when they’re ready for their forever home.

Hi Shae it's nice to see you do what you do. 😊 and time will tell. And if people don't want to see horses split up... than they should buy them and take as good care as you do...because you do so good as you do 😅❤
