Denis is a great guy and has helped me transition from stock removal, to hammer forging and now making layered damascus. He’s also very responsive to messages and helpful with his in depth answers. He’s definitely one of the guys I hope to meet at a blade show.

I'm glad to see the beginner series is being remade! I feel like this is going to help lots of beginners. I think a coal forge is a great choice for anyone who doesn't have those extra bucks, also salt or a temp gun are useful to get a good heat treat.

I’ll certainly be covering beginner forging. Though with the price of gas forges these days, I have to recommend that over coal. Plus I don’t have very much experience with coal myself, only using it twice. Thanks for following along.

Thanks Dennis. Very excited you are going through these again. The beginner series was what I used to watch two years ago and got me started. Great refresher to go over again, and can’t wait for the intermediate. Joined ABS recently and jumping from full tang to hidden tang has got to my head. Love the videos and content. Thanks for all you do for the community.

I think its always worth watching Denis no matter what your skill level. I blacksmith and I can shape all manner of sharp shiny objects but I still enjoy watching and learning from the channel. This is a great breakdown for getting started, its surprising how fast the needs add up and if you don't have a guide you can end up with some really expensive or dodgy purchases that either make you wonder why you started or just break the bank when there are better options Denis is right on the mark. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for making this video series. I learned a lot in the first two minutes of the video. Just one question, what size drill press do you recommend, 8 or 10 inches?
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 ай бұрын
Get the largest you can afford. I started with the small Wen drill press and had that for years until I just recently added a big standup press to the shop. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing! I saw where you got the Housemade 2x72 a while back, just wondering how you would compare it to the Broadbeck. I'm going to upgrade and trying to decide.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 3 ай бұрын
In functionality, they are pretty much identical. I do like the tilting rest from Brodbeck better, but that’s an add on anyway. It comes down to if you can weld and build it or you want it ready to assemble. Thanks for watching.

Great video, thank you! Where can I get a "Quality Drill Press" for $80??
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 3 ай бұрын
Well it depends on your version of “quality” I guess. The Wen version linked in my Amazon store is a very reliable drill press. I see it’s gone up a bit around $100, but a great machine. Nice had one for years and it’s never failed. Thanks for watching.

5:40 - be sure to get and angle grinder that has the trigger switch! Sooner or later IT WILL KICK OUT OF YOUR HANDS. At least one reputable welding KZbin channel has demonstrated the dangers of using an angle grinder with the On/Off switch. The trigger switch saved my femoral arterie from being severed 20 years ago when mine kicked out of my hands and the cutting wheel hit the inside of my thigh.
@TyrellKnifeworks

I’ve never seen one with an on-off that’s not done kind of pressure/rocker switch. I don’t think they even make those anymore, at least not here in California. Good advice though. Thanks for watching.

@TyrellKnifeworks - Unfortunately, on the east coast they're just as common and a little cheaper than the trigger switch.
