Just a heads-up, I bought the Rankie adapter based on your recommendation, and I also got 5 more USB to Ethernet adapters, and the Rankie is considerably slower than at least three of the others I tested. The UGreen USB 3.0 Hub units got me up to 362 Mb/s over my Ethernet connection while attached to my 1.0gb switch, the Rankie only hit 318 mb/s on my system. I used the link you gave for the OTG cable and it works flawlessly; thanks for this useful and informative video! The UGreen adapters I used were off Amazon

Hello Tanya, as I mentioned, the Fire TV Cube has its own power cord with a round cord that goes into the back of the Fire TV Cube. The OTG adapter has it's own power supply end. So I connected an extra power supply cord to the OTG adapter & plugged it in directly into a power source. This seems to have resolved the issue.

Nice! I was hard wired to my ethernet but getting less than 100 Mbps, couldn't figure out why when I had 3 times the speed on my 5G wifi. Upgraded my ethernet adapter after watching, so much faster - thank you!! Also I run a VPN (I use Nord) and it does *significantly* lower the download speed, so every little bit helps.

I just had a new broadband installed and was baffling me about the Firestick's not getting the full speed, I called my internet provider and they were saying how they should be faster so obviously they're not aware of this either (I sent them photos when they asked me about the setup on it and they said that wasn't right anyway, however at least one less job here knowing speed isn't an issue). Really would help if the Firestick told you this while doing a test as I'm sure lots of people are baffled as well, not realising the adapters and firesticks in general cap the speed. This is brilliant thanks.. I have tried this method and use this to speed up my Fire TV in the front room.. it works well when I plug the line directly into the router.. I have also, changed my fire TV recently in an out building connected to the same electrical source that worked well with a wifi extender now it doesn’t seem to work anymore and now unable to either pick up my memory stick or directly wire to the internet. For information I am using new splitter and a usb extension but to joy.. is there ANYTHING that you could help with in the settings in the new 4k stick I may have over looked. I have also tried to reinstall my older 4k stick but it still dosnt pick up my memory stick or direct internet.. signed Mr Frustrated 😂

You also need an updated router, cat 6 ethernet cables. Updated mesh system or better wi fi extenders

The internet providers are quite different here in the U.S. as well as our routers. My router (T-link) doesn't have the ability for that setting you suggested. I have that adapter that came with the firesticks too! I put it into the HDMI port on the TV and then plugged the firestick into the adapter because my modem and router are further away in an office. It has done nothing as far as speeding up the firestick. I have a VPN on too. I just think these internet providers have become "wise".

Friends do not believe wired connections are still useful, blaming my age as "tha'ts the way they did it in the 1980's boomer" Yes, but as Scotty of Star Trek (the origina series sayd) "I can't be changin the laws of physics. " Wired RJ45, thunderbolt or new USB C gen 2 are faster than multi access WiFi (particually during the holidays with famiy and guests all using cell phones/mobiles , laptops, ipads, etc) Basic videos are still really helpful. Great video, clear and concise. Unfortunately the Rankie USB to ethernet adapter is not available on Amazon Canada. Can you recommend an alternate device with the same reliability and specs. I have 1gb wifi service and usually get around 100mb download with my Amazon adapter. But once I turn on the VPN that download speed drops below 50mb. It would be great to get 3-400mb download speeds that would still top out around 200mb when the VPN is used. Looking forward to more videos.

I installed the recommended ethernet adapter from Cable Matters and using a cat5e ethernet cable, I’m getting over 300Mbps download, similar to what I get from wifi and considerably better that what I was getting from the Amazon adapter. Unfortunately, when I activate my Surfshark VPN, that download speed drops below 100mbps, also similar to what I get on my 1GB wifi service. Was hoping for 100++mbps when using the VPN. Working with Surfshark to figure it out, but so far not having any success. Thanks for the Cable Matters recommendation. It is a good improvement over the Amazon product.

I have tried all kinds of stuff and adapters to get high speeds and the max I have ever gotten is about 56.87 mbps on a fiber connection wired while my iPhone 13 Pro Max can get 280mbps a foot away on WiFi. My internet company came and tested my lines and told me the Firestick is running at max speed that it is capable off. I have the 4K latest stick and it has never gone above 56.87mbps wired or WiFi.

This is perfect timing Tanya. I've just signed up to full fibre broadband and was thinking of hardwiring via ethernet cable. Invaluable information about the high speed ethernet adapter add-on you've shown here. I was also looking into ethernet cable speeds and one of the best is cat 8e (speeds up to 25-40 gig) although cat 5e (most common) is good for speeds up to 1gig. I have my 4k max connected to my tv with a gigabit ethernet adapter. When I do a network speed test I get the following results. 275mbps then when I connect my VPN I get an average download speed of 75mbps. I know that is more than enough to stream 4k, but why is there such a massive difference? When I do the same tests on my pc the speed only drops from 315mbps to 305mbps with vpn.

Tanya, I purchased UGreen model 20265 and 5volt power supply. I like you, have 1 gigabit ISP. Without my Express VPN on, I can only seem to get 347 Mbps, with it on drops to 97 Mbps. (Not shabby) the question is why only 347 Mbps with a gigabit adapter? Plus, buffering is killing me. Now my laptop gets the correct gigabit without VPN and Average 368 Mbps with. I don't understand. 347 Mbps is roughly the maximum speed you can reach on the Firestick. As the ethernet is connected via USB 2.0, so far as I know, the maximum speed USB 2.0 can reach is 480 Mbps.

Running the firestick speed test in Network settings I consistently get about 30-50 Mbps on 5G (about the same as the 2.4Ghz speeds), but Analiti says it's around 200. Ok to assume the Analiti speeds are more accurate?

I was hoping if I go hard wired then this would take me down to around 350mb with my VPN on. I know you lose a bit with a vpn but was hoping with it being more stable I would lose less.

Actually its not an ethernet connection,more like a phone line(LAN)? connection.

Thanks for the quick reply.I had my internet provider check out my speed probs.Old copper cable was the prob.Said l should go to fibre.Almost the same price as dsl.But shoots up in price after 2 years.@@FireTVSticks

Hi. Found your fire stick speed video very good. I use Bt full fibre internet. I checked the speed on my fire stick through my router and it’s only 2.4 ghz. It does say it’s suitable for 4K streaming. I Carnt see how to change that setting to 5ghz . Any ideas how to do that? Thank u

You'll need to look up your router settings and turn on the 5 GHz range if supported.

Doesn't triple as seems maxed at 100 on a 450 mb adapter with ethernet. It must be capped on older firestick ? It's 4k bought around 3 years ago or so

@@FireTVSticks I upgraded the ethernet cable. My parents were still on and old Cat5. Got a new Cat8 and done the job. They get 300mb but I think the Firestick or that model since it's a few years old, isn't capable of such high speeds? Or, the new Grain Connect can't hit 900mb they pay for. It's only been installed just over a week now.

@@CR-bc1zt A gigabit adapter will provide faster speeds on older Firestick devices I also use an older 4K Firestick and can reach speeds over 300Mbps when connected via ethernet. However, as the adapter connects via a USB 2.0 port on the device, it is limited to a maximum of 480Mbps.

@@FireTVSticks I've failed to find any gigabit adapter for Firestick. All seem to provide 480mbps. Then Amazon itself is maxed at 100mbps, so I didn't get that one.

Our internet service provider in the US is Cox. Unfortunately their the only game in town & their about to raise rates again without adding any benefit to the service. Their monopolist practices are just another example of overcharging consumers as consumers are begging for more options.

Hi, I'm confused, as on my phone it get wifi from my router of 400 plus, yet speed test on the amazon firestick from the saved network which is set on the 5G ot shows 20mbs, any idea why?

Hi. I am an avid fan, love you 😏, your channel and all your advice. I purchased an otg cable and currently have a usb drive connected for additional memory and use wifi. My question is...The otg cable is usb 2.0 which maxs out at 480mb. Do you know of any otg cable that is usb 3.0 so i can get the full speed of my network and a gigabit network adapter i can use but has a usb port so i can continue using my sd card as external memory?
