Native Resolution with TSR AA vs DLSS/TSR Quality w/ LSFG 2.1 2X non-performance or 3X Performance would likely be around the same host framerate, so you would be looking at a 2-3X framerate for "free". Also, one other cool thing with LSFG 2.9 is that it can now intelligently "skip" frames to be generated based on how close to the max refresh rate the game is running at. Of course, it's better to cap the framerate to half/third of the refresh rate with a high refresh rate (preferably 360Hz or above) display, but even with a 60 Hz display, with a system generally getting 45-50 fps, LSFG can boost the framerate to 60 without tearing or going above the native refresh rate. This can result in less smooth images, but I think this is an awesome new feature for those on fixed-refresh rate displays.

I almost forgot to come back and say thanks! I was originally like "he's lying." Everyone always adverstises "DOUBLE YOUR FRAME RATE!" I installed the program and started running tests and immediately started getting a smoother turn. I couldn't figure out why this would work. If the system is already being heavily taxed by the game then how does adding more stress improve the visual framerate? Then it dawned on me that the GPU isn't being taxed as often as it should because Star Citizen is unoptimized. It sends too much to the CPU leaving the GPU idle. This gives a lot of extra room to the GPU to process the extra frames. I do notice when I really max out that smoothing that the turns are sluggish compared to my input and there are visual artifacts, but simply using the LSFG 2.3 with X2 mode and performance (no scaling) it works smooth as butter with no noticeable latency from input yet. Note, I haven't gotten into a dogfight with it on quite yet.

You can also record the entire screen with OBS at 120 fps (you'll have to use AV1 or H265/HEVC for encoding as H264 is just too slow by default) and then slow it down to 60 or 30 fps in the video to showcase the difference between Frame Gen on vs off. @axelcllt3 ай бұрын
We'll see, but you also need to know that in Lossless scaling there's an option to allow screen tearing, and this option reduces input lag by a lot Screen tearing should not be an issue for most people, since almost all monitors nowadays support adaptive sync/g sync which eliminates any screen tear directly from the monitor side Also if you already have good fps before using framegen, your latency when using it should not be a problem

What resolution are you playing the game at and how many fps do you get on average when moving around the city?
@jpdbest5 ай бұрын
One thing I didn't realize (and possibly other people based on some of the comments) until looking into the Lossless Scaling software and how it works is that the maximum framerate obtainable through frame generation is limited to your monitors maximum refresh rate -- assuming I haven't misunderstood the guides and videos I reviewed on how to use the software. To get really high framerates with the software you would also need a monitor with a high refresh rate, such as newer gaming monitors capable of supporting 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz... In my case, I have an old (2015) ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor which has a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. The maximum frame rate I can achieve using Lossless Scaling frame generation would be 60FPS using X2 mode, with Star Citizen's max framerate limited to 30FPS (set via driver software such as Nvidia Control Panel). I believe 30FPS is the accepted/recommended minimum for Lossless Scaling frame generation, so I don't believe it's possible (let alone viable?) to limit the framerate to 20FPS to use X3 frame generation mode for 60FPS. If you struggle to maintain a consistent 60FPS in Star Citizen but can achieve a stable 30FPS, this might be still useful in your situation to get a stable 60FPS using frame generation.
@AnotherSpaceCowBoy2 ай бұрын
Dude. Of course you CANNOT do better than your screen limitation. I mean you will see XXX FPS but your screen cannot render it correctly, so it's totally pointless. And it creates issues actually to put more than your limit. Best guides always advise to limit 1 or 2 FPS below the screen limit (like 143 or 142 for the classic 144Hz screen). To make sure you won't create errors. And it's always good for your computer to limit FPS if it's not needed (less heat, stress, consumption etc...).

Do you still recommend lossless scaling and are you using it? Thinking about trying it with the 9800x3d\3090 at 1440p
@mlegarth6 ай бұрын
Quite misleading, 5:46 you say that the ship would also not have been controlable without FG as if the control issue is the same with and without. Thats simply not accurate. I just got this on your reccomendation and I knew there would be some input lag as thats inevitable with FG. But the input lag with Lossless Scaling is terrible. Even at 50fps native (150 with x3), it is very noticable, worse than Nvidias FG tech. (Yes both with and without V-Sync and with scaling set to off). This is in my opinion emmersion breaking waiting for your ship to act. You skirted over the input lag way too much. There's not sweetspot for this, if you have low fps, the input lag makes the came uncontrolable. If you have med/high fps it adds enough input lag that the game plays better without anyway. Glad it was only £7.
@tenpoundfortytwo6 ай бұрын

@tenpoundfortytwo5 ай бұрын
Yeah that's a good question! In theory as long as you stick within the 33Hz to 162Hz range, I believe g sync will still work. The real benefit is really just allowing a game like Star Citizen (which generally performs poorly) to 'look' like it's performing 3x better. You could limit your FPS to 54 and allow lossless scaling to take that to 162. Your system won't be able to maintain 54 everywhere in game, but in theory gsync will still eliminate screen tearing etc.
@redshirt495 ай бұрын
Ok, well I tried this and in areas of poor performance (y'know the reason you'd want this in the first place) it creates horrendous screen tearing, artifacting and massive input lag. Messed around with the settings a bit and can't seem to resolve this. If there are areas in the game where your frames can drop below 30, this tool seems to make things worse, not better.

It's works with my GTX 1650 , it's far from perfect because au the artefact and ui glitching out but the experience is smoother especially in area with less object like space station, moon, space. The better your fps is the less visual bugs you'll see

How exactly do you get this frame generation? On the machine I run star citizen on I only have a 3080 whereas the 4070 TI super is reserved for the living room. Is this Nvidia tech or a separate third party app to download?

The only negative i can say is that its sadly no fix for the friggin stuttering that occurs in cpu bound areas, even with a top pc you still notice them.
@LuismaLorca6 ай бұрын
Vulkan improves a lot in that department, can't wait for actual Vulkan release as the beta is quite buggy unfortunately, lots of leaks
@Gnarfendorf6 ай бұрын
@@LuismaLorca Possible, didnt get around to do some side by side testing yet, especially not with LLS active.
@LuismaLorca6 ай бұрын
@@Gnarfendorf The difference in terms of frame-time stability in Vulkan is insane, specially for a beta that isn't supposed to improve things yet. Sadly the VRAM memory leaks makes LLS+Vulkan particularly unusable, unless you have loads and loads of VRAM. I'm rocking a 4070 super with 12GB VRAM and it shits the bed.

It kinda worked for me, but I got a little issue, well, kinda of a big issue, my cursor disappear when I activate the lossless scaling, Idk what to do, I tried every single solution but nothing works, the FPS does goes up and the game gets smooth, but playing without a cursor is a pain in the ass.

I find it is worse with it than without it. It stutters very bad! How can I fix it? Tried Vulkan and DX11. Just bought it, if I cannot fix it I will get a refund.
@tenpoundfortytwo6 ай бұрын
What are your PC specs? I'd make sure you're upscaling and maybe try out the performance mode!
@JamieCrew6 ай бұрын
@tenpoundfortytwo I am using a 3080ti at 3440*1440 on very high settings except for clouds with a i9 12900k and ddr5 5600mhz. It seems like there are microstutters. Dx11 seemed to help, but I find vulkan natively better compared to dx11 with lossless scaling.
@tenpoundfortytwo6 ай бұрын
@@JamieCrew interesting! Do you have your ecores off? I imagine the 3080ti is being pushed pretty hard at that resolution, so i'd definitely mess around with different dlss settings and try the 2x and 3x modes (and performance mode).
@JamieCrew6 ай бұрын
Suprising, you mentioned the e cores cause I know it's destroyed my SC experience since 2021. However, they finally fixed the issues with 3.23, so now I can play with them on perfectly fine. I did try 2x and 3x, I actually found 3x smoother which is interesting as there's more latency(most likely indicating the microstutters are probably not latency related), I had a feeling it was V Sync related as my monitor is 100hz, I tried the in game V sync and the lossless scaling v sync and that also didn't help.
@JamieCrew6 ай бұрын
I decided to get a refund, but I saw one other comment of someone also facing the same thing in vulkan, if I see a patch note containing a fix for frame gen with vulkan I'd definitely reconsider. Thanks for the help. Your videos are really informative and helpful. :)
