100000%, this only made Clint come away looking like a rhode scholar talking to a bunch of dumb jocks. It’s almost embarrassing how well spoken and concise his arguments compared to the others. @@jalexander9698 Nothing beats Newton saying for the 10th time it's not about the wages then Gordy (probably did the maths while Newton was talking) coming up with the point that the average salary of a footy player is 400k!! It was hilarious watching Graham. He felt bad for Newton having to deal with such rubbish.

@@jjruss8238- aren’t their puppets the same corporation that pays their wages. I thought if anything the NRL is the bad employer - maybe - perception is everything and the perception is greed - didn’t necessarily say is was just the perception. There is admittedly not a lot of info so I don’t really know what their fighting for but I would suggest that the NRL are the employers not the broadcaster who effectively pays for the Clubs admin and players salary.

@Nylandersaraus1
@Nylandersaraus1 11 ай бұрын
@@Andrew-fy9wu so what’s your point? You do realise the majority of players earn no where near 1 million. I’m assuming your point is that the players should just take what they are given and be grateful for it. I like most fans watch the game for the players so they have the right to be listened to and have the concerns taken seriously. The NRL has failed for it to get to this point. My issue is that Tallis has acted really weak by turning on the players when used to represent. He’s a strong and opinionated guy so he should have the strength to push back on the media and NRL even if there is personal risk. This is what leaders and great men do.
@Andrew-fy9wu
@Andrew-fy9wu 11 ай бұрын
@@Nylandersaraus1 Do you know what up to a million dollars means? How much are they going to make when it is not covered in the media? How many Australians make 200,000 or 300,000 or 400,000, or 500,000, or 600,000 dollars a year?
@Nylandersaraus1
@Nylandersaraus1 11 ай бұрын
@@Andrew-fy9wu i think I know what you are trying to say but I’m not 100% sure. A million dollar is a massive amount but there are many more players under $300k, for example the minimum wage is $120k not to mention players on training or development wages which would be less. This is for people with a professional career typically less that 10 years and an industry which make a lot of money off their work. In many way the highest paid million plus players should be applauded for standing in solidarity with the more vulnerable players including women players not criticised for “biting the hand that feeds them”. There are many professions who are well paid in hazardous roles like miners, divers etc how are footballers different? They get paid a fraction compared to other professional sports and sustain much more physical damage.
@Nylandersaraus1
@Nylandersaraus1 11 ай бұрын
@@Andrew-fy9wu further to my previous comment. What I think bothers me is that Tallis was the pinnacle of professional rugby league. I think he was one of the highest paid players plus now has a media career. He is in the top 1% of professional players and ex players, maybe even 0.5%. Getting all the spoils but is now kicking down the ladder. Hope this makes sense. I get it’s tough atm and my intention is not to defend well played players just that I dislike the hypocrisy

This media lockout has had the side effect of showing how inept Australian media, especially sporting media, is. They are running an agenda instead of actually discussing the story. They don’t care about what the topic is, they have a focus and that’s what matters, and the fact it turns into personal attacks on the person they’re interviewing is disturbed. James Graham is the only one that has any self respect, and all he did was stay quiet. Honestly think it means he agrees with Clint but isn’t contractually allowed to say so. Also how did Hooper ever get a career in the media?

They continually missed the point that players wanted in on the privacy agreement that every other Oz worker is afforded. Yet Hoops and Gordy continually missed the point with personal attacks and simplistic and unrealistic solutions. They sounded bitter and often trivialised the players POVs. I didn’t like Clint as a player but he’s found what he’s good at. Stayed cool calm and classy amidst the barrage of close minded comments. I must say I expected more from a veteran journalist and one our game’s greats. It actually sounds like Hoops & Gordy had Zero research regarding the players claims. Yes players are paid a shxtload. @@jackohere1878 no - the average salary is 400k, thats not the base salary (players like Munster and Ponga kinda screw the average). The base salary is 120k, and the NRL are working to cut that by 20k next year for the first 30, cutting 15k for supplementary players down to 70k, and cutting weekly training payments

@@jackohere1878 looks like the misleading worked on you. Average salary is 400k not each player get 400k. Between that and the “why are they complaining” narrative I guess you think the players should do what they are told hey. Players earned their right to be listened too.

This type of thing happens alot im NBL and NBA ,what usually ends uo happening is a player strike ,NRL is treating the players like cattle if the players were smart they would back Clint Newton 100%..In 2003 Gordie was involved in exactly the same issues and now he is in the media he is trying to belittle the players ,the media is trying to belittle the players and bully then .If the media wanted this to resolve and they were smart they woukd tell PVL to pull hes ego in and get back to doing a fair deal,

Funny how the media try to justify for the fans. Fans don’t give a shit about players not talking. Gordy yah gone shown up by Clint. He trusted you back in 2003 when you were delegate. Just like how majority of players don’t know what’s going on but they trust Clint to fight for their rights. Just as I trust my union delegate at work to fight for our rights at work.
