Shock cord can be used to excellent effect if raising and lowering tripod post to different heights. Shock line is like a bungee rope you can get in bulk and cut to length, just thought I would mention that also.

Thanx for the tip!! I tend to NOT like stretchy shock-cord in this type of situation. I prefer tie-line because it DOESN'T Stretch, but in a pinch, I'll take what I can get to weight down my tripod when needed.

Excellent advice, nothing will increase your stability more, mine used for telescope tripod

You could connect the ground based object to the tripod hook with a bungee cord. Custom cut a bungee cord to just the right length.

Brilliant! The simple solutions are the best. Love this idea because it lowers the center of gravity, is much more stable than swinging and doesn’t require carrying any additional weight besides my bag which is with me already.

That's exactly why I like this method......lower center of gravity, and no swinging-bags!

Great job. I told my Full Sail DP community about your video. I added a snap hook to the tripod holder for faster mobility. Thx for the video. #Appreciated🙏

You’re welcome, I’m so glad it helped! It really makes for a solid setup when the weight is heavy enough on the ground. Cheers!

Great idea. I was just searching for a more stable tripod. I have been carrying a brick to hang. I'd rather not carry extra weight if I can stabilize the tripod without it. Thanks for igniting my creative imagination. If out on a hike I can carry a light-weight bag to fill with nearby rocks and attach to the tripod.

Try a screw-in stake like the "orange screw" along with this method.

Wonderful idea.. A bungee cord with hooks at both ends will be compact and fast to put into action... Thanks

I just ordered the 055 Manfrotto aluminium 3 tripod for vertical shots using the horizontal column. Although the tripod weights 2.5kg I was looking to find a way to make the tripod fully stable. Thanks for your method man...the tripod does not have a hook in the middle column and since the column will be in the horizontal direction, I also purchased the Vanguard VGTSBM Alta Stone Bag from amazon

Hi there. I’m so glad the video helped. I often find that I’ll wrap some rope or tie line around the tripod triangular section where the tube attaches instead of using any hook that may be on the tripod, like I shoe at around 5:50 in this video. That method will always work on almost any tripod if it doesn’t have a hook. Glad it helps, cheers!

Great tutorial I'm going to learn that Taut Line Hitch! I wonder what's better for stability; elastic or non-elastic rope.

Hi there Stijn. Thank you, I'm very glad the video helped. Took me a bit to finally get that taught-line-hitch memorized, but I use it all the time now. Also, as far as elastic or non-elastic......I'd say generally non-elastic would be more stable. Think about it, if there's a tight line/rope between 2 points, it will hold more steadily if that line/rope doesn't stretch. If it's stretchy, then the 2 points it's tied too could move in accordance with the stretch of the line/rope. I'm in live-event production, and we use "tie line" (or some say trick line) everywhere. Simple, black, usually made of cotton, so it does not stretch, you tie it, it holds steady. For personal stuff I usually carry around old shoe laces because I replace the stock-shoe laces that come in my shoes with stretchy shoe laces......because I WANT stretch in my shoe laces, so I just use the old laces as my carry-around "tie line" a lot of the time.....aaaaaanyway, cheers!

@@MarcusHutsell Awesome that makes sense! I have a pair of shoes I'm about to throw away so I will try it with its shoe laces!
