TRIPREPORT | Rhein-Neckar Air (ECONOMY) | Dornier 328 | Sylt - Mannheim

The predecessor was Cirrus Airlines. Their main routes were Mannheim to Berlin and Mannheim to Hamburg. After Cirrus filed for bankruptcy, RN Air was founded by large companies headquartered in the Rhine-Neckar region and took over a Dornier 328 Prop. Nowadays RN Air also flies Kassel (KSF) to Sylt (GWT).

I leave nearby Mannheim airport, airplanes regularly fly over my house before landíng there. I've only flown there once on a Do-328 to Berlin, somewhere around 2003, when it still was Cirrus Airlines.

Das ist doch mal ein netter Kurzreport von dir Felix. Die Do-328 scheint auch gar nicht laut zu sein und geschmeidig zu fliegen. Tja Sylt ist wie Mannheim etwas "Dörflich". Ich war vielleicht froh zu sein endlich mal wieder ein Video über RNA zu sehen. Sehr schön!

I flew into Mannheim a couple times, it was always great fun, although you really feel that the airport is really small. The runway is not even 1000 meters and as seen in the video, the taxiway is even thinner, so the "airliner" will regularly backtrack on the runway. The ATCs in Mannheim greatly appreciate these scheduled flights though, on some sunny summer Sundays they're probably the only pilots really knowing what they're doing there. Just sitting and listening a while on the Mannheim Frequency will make you giggle (or panic) about how unprofessional and confused these leisure pilots are.

My university is located < 1km from the airport directly in the east final approach - sometimes we have to interrupt the lecture for a few seconds when a jet is landing :D

Sylt or Mannheim? I didn't know that Mannheim Airport was so close to the university? Or is it a university other than Universität Mannheim? I do know that the trains pass super close to the Uni.

if you think Sylt airport is small, you need to check out Carajás airport in Parauapebas, Brazil, this airport is really tiny and supports 737's and A320's!

Try Cocos Keeling Islands airport in the Indian Ocean. Its airstrip takes regular Airbus A320-100/200 flights and is suitable in emergency for any airliner.

Great flight on unexpected airlines and unexpected route. And before I watched this, I didn't know Germany have island on northwest, which are close to Denmark. As far as I know, they have island at northeast.

One of our former airlines of the Philippines named SEAIR has operated these aircrafts before and at one point operated really fast flights to Boracay on this aircraft, and this flight report reminds me of good ol' SEAIR! Man, the memories just come back every now and then!

Filex and David, I discovered a new airline you just have to try! It is called Air Chad and the national airline of the country of the same name. It has a total of 2 planes, both Dash 8's and I gather it is managed by Ethiopian. The best way to get one one is probably via Addis Ababa. Not only a unique National Airline to add to you goal, but you can also say if you fly one, you have actually flown on 50 per cent of their fleet, how many times can you say that. Who know, you fly back on the other, you may have done 100 per cent.

Friends of mine flew many years ago on a small airline in Sudan. They asked the cabin crew member how many planes the airline had. He said three. They said you must fly a lot of routes. He said not really, the other two crashed.

I dont agree with your opinion on the legroom. It felt quite spacious and I'm 190cm. It offers a lot of legroom compared to the aircraft size. I was expecting less. It's better than LCCs.
