Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X | INFO MOTO

Triumph has this month released its new single-cylinder Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X models in Australia, priced rideaway from $8990 and $9990, respectively.
The Triumph Speed 400 is arguably best positioned to compete with Royal Enfield’s Hunter 350 ($7590), while the Scrambler 400 X should take on the Indian brand’s Scram 411 ($7990), among other small-capacity retro-themed models.
The Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are the first learner-approved models in the brand’s Modern Classics line-up, joining the larger-capacity Speed Twin and Scrambler models which are available in both 900- and 1200-class capacities.
This new platform, which is underpinned by by a 398cc single-cylinder engine generating 29.4kW and 37.5Nm, may spawn future models under Triumph’s Modern Classics umbrella.
The Speed 400 takes on styling consistent with its larger Speed Twin siblings, though it is particularly approachable for LAMS riders with a seat height of 790mm and a weight of 170 kilograms.
The bike rides on 43mm upside down forks and 17-inch cast wheels. The braking package consists of a four-piston caliper and a 300mm disc at the front end.
Meanwhile, the Scrambler 400 X is taller with an 835mm seat height and 179kg weight, and features longer-travel suspension, a 19-inch front wheel, wider handlebars and an upright seating position suitable for off-road riding. The Scrambler 400 X also benefits from a 320mm front brake disc.
Notably, both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X feature a ride-by-wire throttle and traction control as standard, while an LCD dash, an imobiliser and LED lighting round out the tech features.

Nobody seems to be comparing these to the duke 390 and svart/vitpilin 401s which I think are more appropriate than the J series platforms given HP of the bikes. Super keen to see reviews of the new svart when they drop

Went today to look at one in the metal. I currently own a '19 RE GT Continental 650 which I love and intend to keep. Initial impressions are very light with engine off and very good build quality. Test riding next week to find out what it rides like.

I think the 400X should be comped to the Scam 411 and the 350s. Maybe the Speed to the Hunter, but with 2x the HP, and higher spec all around its not much of a comp to me
