Agreed, i have the same with Nitron suspension both ends, Tec bike parts cam, airbox eliminator, decat and adjusted fueling. The extra HP with the RS i wouldn't use as i usually don't have any need to go above 5,500 rpm. I also altered the gearing as the Std gearing was way to low for me. The cut outs in the tank presumably for a better turning circle aren't to my liking on this RS and the 400 models. What needs to happen for a major upgrade is a serious diet getting the weight closer to the 765RS, yes i understand a different engine. I feel they are trying to somehow replace the Thruxton, that had stopped selling once the Speed Twin came into play. So how is this supposed to generate sales? The single clock would be a deal breaker for me.

Having seen the 25 bike I just could not live with that single dial. It's something you have to look at constantly and knowing how beautiful the old ones were you'd be forever disappointed. So this weekend I've been out and bought a brand new 24 model at a serious deal. There are a few about in the UK. As an older rider, I recall clearly my reaction on the release of the hideous paint schemes of the 1971 oil in frame models. Disastrous decision at the time by the marketing team at Triumph, and we all correctly predicted that sales would nosedive. Seems like we have deja vu all over again (to quote Yogi Berra). Plus, the new “clock” is hideous. Real shame to have squandered what could have been a great opportunity to build on the success of the previous models. Just have to wonder who is in charge of market research at Triumph, and how they could have got it so wrong. I’ll be keeping my 2024 Speed Twin (which I really like) for longer than I had planned.

I fully agree with your assessment. I would add that I dislike the flatter headlight that looks like the XSR900's, and I find appalling that the specs of the basic model are significantly downgraded compared to the MY2024, while it comes with a higher price tag. The specs of the RS are better, but I don't want of a cafe racer bike for my daily commute. Most of all, the Trident's modern clock is a poor replacement compared to the previous dual analogue clocks; and why the offset to the left? No thank you Triumph, I will keep my ST 2023 and will rather put my money on upgraded shocks.

All they had to do was release an RS version as follows - ohliins all round, twin tft dash, akropovic twin pipes, quick shifter, more power than the mark 2, and optional clip ons. Leave the mark 2 as it is. Reduce the price a smidge to $20990 AUD and price the RS a good $5k more than the standard. Easy.

I agree, Steve. How/why do these professionals get it so wrong. All the Speed needed, as you say, was a couple of tweaks. A quick shifter is nice, but if you have to reposition the footpegs to make room for it and stare at that poxy clock then no, we'll manage without.

I still like the red and black paint scheme on my 2019 Speed Twin ! The paint schemes since 2021 don't really do it for me . Well your respray looked good from youtube, but that wasn't "official Triumph" !! The extra rev range before hitting the rev limiter would be nice, and it looks like the suspension has been improved. The riding position geometry of my Mk1 is okay to me . I'd tried the Thruxtons of 2020 ->21 ish , way too extreme for my mid 50s body ! The Triumph official gumph says the RS has a "more focused riding position". Sounds like I might not like it ! I would like the cruise control and quick shifter. I miss those from the 1050 Speed Triple I had for a couple of years (Mrs Karl-osh wouldn't get on the back of it , so it didn't get ridden much !) I love the twin clocks on my 2019 speed twin, don't want the clocks off the Trident ! Triumph just need to look at what Kawasaki did with twin clocks and some LCD on the Z900RS. Something like that could work rather than the bargain basement Trident clock. I really doubt if I'll pay the upgrade cost from my 2019 to get a 2024 variant, and the mono clock is a bit of a deal breaker. Now if Triumph made a 1050 -> 1200 cc Triple engined retro, that looks like the speed twin, with a 120 degree crank ( and not the T plane one ), then they could have me willing to open my wallet , and let the moths out , and see if there's any cash for the upgrade !

Surely, someone could come up with a better solution to incorporate the newly upgraded electronics into an "analogue-style" dash? Even maintaining an analogue needle over a TFT background would help so much with the aesthetics. Triumph's own recent limited Stealth editions with the fade paintjob looks so much more premium on this supposed premium bike in their range. In the pursuit to provide neverending growth for the shareholders, either prices have to go up or costs have to go down. The new speedo is just cheaper to produce, simple. Many manufacturers do both and see what it does to them. KTMs with premium prices, having quality and reliability that is worse than ever. And it was never good to begin with. And BMW with their most premium bike and its countless issues. They open themselves up to attack from young manufacturers out of China all by themselves.

When the actual hardware build options run into the 20's or 30's from the Triumph accessory list ! Mk I owner here (silver) and I agree wholeheartedly with the comments expressed in this video! The paint scheme and that clock… I just don’t get it. The orange reminds me too much of Harley. Not a fan of the indents on the tank either… those always looked like an engineering mistake with a poor solution to me. And the plastic fenders on the base model?? Less riding modes?! A horribly ugly gauge that looks like it came off a Honda Rebel (no offence to Honda at all... I absolutely love their bikes and actually own a Super Cub) and the cherry on top? It’s more expensive!! Definitely a misstep on Triumph’s part imo. I feel like they simply nailed the Mk I (at least aesthetically speaking) and any stylistic changes they’ve made since have simply been for the sake of change and ‘refreshing’ the line. But to be honest, a little part of me likes that I don’t have to be envious of the new models! @@RocketMan_Moto The RS is also way overpriced! It used to look really nice, I loved the classic tank shape, the headlight was perfect, just the right size, and it had twin clocks. All Triumph had to do was to release an RS model which had better suspension, classic twin clocks with an LED in the middle, similar to the Kawasaki Z900RS (a gorgeous classic bike), updated electronics, cruise control, and an up-and-down quickshifter, or the option of an automatic system. It still has a great engine, but for me, it's lost its mojo and is off my list. I'll be looking at getting the new Yamaha MT-09 SP next year, although it's not a modern classic, and neither is the new Speed Twin 1200 in my opinion, it's far better value, with a better electronics package, and a fantastic CP3 triple engine.

@@RocketMan_Moto Yep, the Speed Twin was one of my favourite bikes, I've loved the Bonneville's from when I was a kid, especially that classic tank shape-now it's got dimples! The Honda CB750 and the Norton Commando were also favourites, and they still look good today. I do wish Honda would bring out a modern CB750. Triumph have ruined a classic bike, but at least it will sound nice. It looks like we'll be stuck with this redesigned Speed Twin 1200 for at least another three years, unless it doesn't sell, and I'm guessing it won't sell as well as the previous models. I can't help thinking Triumph have cut some corners to save money, and they're also asking a lot of cash for what you actually get when you compare it to the competition. I'd buy a decent second hand bike, and then spend the cash you've saved on a Öhlins STX36 or a YSS rear shock, and fit better internal fork cartridges. There's also the Kawasaki Z900RS SE which looks fantastic, but that really needs a full exhaust system to make it sound better, and give it a bit more character. I do like an inline-four engine, I did all my training on a Honda CB650, and they sound great when you open them up. I found the CB650 a great bike around town and for urban riding, but I don't like Honda's amber running lights, it confuses people in the UK, they should be white. 👍
