Interesting choices. My top choice would be more fuel capacity. In the western US where I live, you can easily get stuck 20 miles from nowhere on only 3.2 gallons of gas. There is a 4.4 gal. tank available from Germany but it costs US$1900! My America went over 200 miles on 4.2 gallons which was ok. Second change would be to belt drive. It's quieter than chain, cleaner, maintenance free, and lasts longer. There probably is a kit for that but it used to be around US$900. Beyond that I'd relocate the ignition switch to where you can find it while seated, or go to keyless ignition. Triumph need to get with that and the belt.

Thanks Robert, great to hear what you would change 👍 A very good point I agree, a bit larger fuel tank would nice. I bet it can get tricky in the US being far from fuel stations!! Completely agree with belt drive as well. Hate chain maintenance haha. Cheers

Great video, I bet most of us Speedmaster owners are all on the same page mod-wise. I have a Corben seat with the back rest that can be used for me or the passenger on mine in the grey bomber jacket leather which looks really good with the Colbalt blue paint. The seat was the second thing I changed after putting on British Customs sleeper pro exhaust. I agree with you on the foot boards and I'd also like to fit a small crash bar to fit forward pegs to rest my feet on for long highway cruising. I still need to put on the x-pipe CAT delete. I've also swapped out a few covers etc. for some brass MOTONE stuff. I do wish it had a separate analog Rev counter.

Nice it sounds like you have done a great job with your Speedy! I bet it looks brilliant 👌 How is the Corbin seat for comfort? Yes I am also thinking of fitting the crash bars so that I can fit some forward pegs to them. Haha also I forgot to mention I would love some brass Motone elements as well.

@@redangrevival It's great once you get a few miles on it and it settles to your backside. I went with the dual saddle since I ride 2 up with my girlfriend fairly often. Only complaint I have is it just comes in contact with the bottom edge of the tank and has scuffed up the paint slightly. I'm sure I'm the only one that has noticed lol

Hi RedAng, I completely agree with your list. The only thing I would change would be to drop the seat down to #3 with handlebars being #1. The comfort seat worked well for me. I agree with Naptime1953 here, definitely Handlebars on #1! I just own a Speedmaster recently but the first thing i noticed in my first hour of riding where the orignal Handlebars that gave intensive pain to my wrists so i really need to change them! I changed them already to the straight Handlebars of Triumph sadly it is slightly too short. Still looking for better ones so if you ever find the ones you like please make a video XD

Hi Dave here, great list and as always preference order of mods all down to what you are currently doing. I like you am touring more now on my speedmaster I opted for Hepco and Becker junior flash (super sturdy, lockable and waterproof)and have been tempted by Viking bags from America. My next big upgrade is front and back suspension which from report improves the ride a lot. As mentioned all personal preferences which makes owning and looking at bikes interesting. Keep it up mate.

Cool. For me it would be: 1) Definitely a new cam to give an increase in power and torque. You'd also need a Dyno run before and after so I think £390 for a new cam is a little too conservative for estimating how much increasing the power will cost. Also an ECU flash remapping might well be needed to get the fuelling spot on with the new cam so need to factor in the cost for this. There is the TuneECU mapping app which I believe is £10 and all you need is a cable to connect to the bike's ECU to your phone to see the mapping and twiddle with it. You can also use it to balance throttle bodies and get lots of other info from your engine. 2) After market rear shock, although the OE isn't that bad. 3) Corbin or similar rear seat to change the angle of the seat as I felt it kept letting my hips drop back so I ended up slouching and having to frequently consciously sit up straight which was a bit of a chore otherwise end up with lower back ache. I would like the back of the seat raised slightly to prevent this. 4) Luggage - maybe I would go with soft luggage say Mosko Moto or Kriega or similar spec. 5) Heated grips. Also if you go for US style Monkey handle bars then your Speedy may well need longer cables.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alex 👍 Nice to hear what you would do with your Speedmaster. A nice list. Yes I think I would definitely need a remap and also cable extensions for the handle bars. I just love the old school American look of the US Buckhorn bars. Cheers
@gzk6nk
@gzk6nk Жыл бұрын
I think if you went for the hotter cam you would improve the power.... But at the expense of torque! I think that would make the bike less relaxing, not more. Speedy produces most of her power lower in the rev range, whereas with a hot cam it'd come in higher up, hence running out of 'puff' at 3000 RPM. I'd prefer that than having to get to 3000 rpm before the 'ooomph' kicks in! What have I done to mine? Only had it since July (2023 Chrome model) so not a lot: 1) Heated grips (Dealer supply and fit as part of the purchase deal at no cost). 2) Radiator guard (Dealer supply and fit as part of the purchase deal at no cost). 3) Aux power socket (Dealer supply and fit as part of the purchase deal at no cost). 4) 'Sound Bomb' horn in place of the weedy standard one. 5) Brown leather battery strap (Just a bit of farckle!). 6) SW Motech 'Legend' soft pannier bags (transferred from my previous bike, an R9T). 7) Purchased but yet to fit Motone Voyager rear luggage rack in place of the pillion seat (I don't do pillion). 8) Ordered but not yet arrived Beeline sat nav mini display (handlebar mount, blue tooth linked to my phone which is in my pocket).

The things i would like to change on my speedmaster: -mirrors: the stock ones dont look very nice and are way to long -footpegs: are to low, a bit higher would be very cool so they wouldn't hit the surface so often -rpm-indicator: an additional rpm-indicator (like on the speed twin) would be soo nice. It's really annoying to chance the view on the small display... -panniers: i also want some vikings, but they do not ship to germany and cause of that i don't know how to get them

Except for the handlebars, the Corbin seat and engine mod, sounds like my Speedy :) The cruising pegs for the crash bar are great, and added the teardrop mirrors, a USB port, and a 12v adapter. I also have a huge Viking sissy bar bag that slides over the rear backstay and ties down to the frame. If you do all of the things you want, you'll have a true classic bagger now that can be stripped back to Bobber in minutes… BTW, I love the comfort seat. Not sure I’d change it out? The floorboards and crash bar pegs are the key to comfort…

According to the graphs, Gus, the SM power doesn't top out until 6500 revs and I certainly find I can hold onto a gear for quite a while and she keeps pulling. I prefer to stay in the lower registers, but I really think you can be quite a hooligan if you want.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival 2 жыл бұрын
I think it is just that I prefer being in the torque range rather than feeling like I am pushing the poor engine! You can rev it out a bit, but I feel sorry for the bike haha! Anything that could expand that torque curve would be lovely 👍
@grahamtricker4103
@grahamtricker4103 2 жыл бұрын
Don't forget Angus, there is no such thing as a free lunch! What you take from one hand you have to give back with the other. In other words, to get more power at the top end you have to lose bottom end torque which is really what the Speedmaster is all about. Bikes that have the High Power version of the Bonneville engine are quite a bit lighter and more sporty than the Speedmaster, so the low down torque isn't needed so much. You might be better off improving the breathing and getting a remap, so you don't lose the torque, but you get a little more at the top. I would have a chat to the guys at Triumph who know their stuff. I found the guys at Triumph West London to be very good. They used to be Jack Lilley and have been Triumph dealers for decades. Hope this helps... 👍
@redangrevival

Hi! Love the video per usual. I have a 22 triumph speedmaster. I’m a new rider and have mostly kept it in rain mode so far. In the past month I’ve dropped the bike at a full stop to the right. It starts tipping and I can’t keep it up so I end up jumping free. I reallly hurt my chest last time. Wondering as a much more experienced rider if you can give tips? I always overthink things and it’s driving me nuts trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong. Also thinking of Parking her in the garage and picking up a cheap lighter bike to learn and beat up on since she’s getting scratched. Any thoughts? I love riding but am relatively fearful because I make dumb mistakes . Thanks!

@redangrevival 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Beth, sounds like a common problem to me, you are definitely not alone! As a first bike the Speedmaster is quite heavy, I am not surprised you have dropped it once or twice. I think it is a good idea to practice on a lighter bike until you feel more confident. It is all about practice and experience, as you say better to scratch the cheaper smaller bike!! Don't feel dis heartened though, the Speedmaster is a heavy bike even for an experienced rider. To be honest I have dropped mine once when moving it on gravel 🤫! Sounds like you may be over thinking it and getting your self nervous. I suggest something lighter so you can relax and just enjoy your riding again, without worrying about dropping the bike. You are still very new to biking, patience is the key. No rush, just enjoy it, the experience and confidence will come. You will learn from your mistakes! Hope that helps, stay safe and enjoy your riding 😁

Bunny Ear Handlebars? Maybe that what Brits call them. American bikers would never call anything on their bikes "Bunny". Mini Apes is the term that, I believe, you were looking for.
